I mean to be serious for a second this is just more posturing for the upcoming Tory leadership campaign. Williamson is ganting for it.

Shit this dude needs to look closer - that Northern Ireland border is going to be an issue. Hell it is an issue now.

None of this is going to end well either its so fucking dumb. I really wish Ireland could be totally free of the Uk

My 2019 vow is to not get enraged by Brexit, so I'm just going to presume that this is a brilliant thing.

A brilliant thing.

This forum man. You can threaten assaination, but slang words are bad.
Okay so for real, why the fuck would you stan so hard for people whose claim for legitimacy hinges on the idea that they are genetically superior to you?
I mean shit, even if you think they somehow generate enough tourism money, surely you still see they're just a bunch of grifters, right?
They don't do shit, they haven't done shit in generations and they're still some of the richest people in the world, and you really feel like it's also really important to defend their honor on the internet against what is obviously a serious and specific assassination attempt?

If they return to imperialism, I await the day the British Empire gets its shit stomped as is forced to pay reparations to those they exploited only to flounder like a wet noodle with that wealth into irrelevance and decolonization. And pay it back with interest.

Gambling on jingoism to reignite support for Brexit. The sad part is, going by how stupid and gullible brexiteers are, this may well work.

We don't even own Weetabix anymore, the idea we have the strength as a nation to behave like Mr big bollocks anymore seems weird to me.

Fist off I don't a fuck if the UK has a Monarchy or not. You're just not being realistic about legality of their ownership of property. Or how it would impact UK politics and economy.

Legally, the people of the UK through their elected representatives can do whatever they fuck they want, even with the monarchs.
They literally get to write the rules of what legal and what isn't.

No one is unrealistic about this. Most anti-royalists knows it's a large political undertaking with all its expected consequences. That doesn't stop them from wanting it. People need to drop the habit of thinking that because someone dares suggest something difficult to do, but not impossible, they're being "unrealistic". If realism is just meekly saying safe, "reasonable" shit while staying in the lane of the class you're born into, I don't want anything to do with it.

"We should dismantle the royalty"

"You're being unrealistic"

"We should abolish the EC"

"You're being unrealistic"

"We should hold corporations accountable"

"You're being unrealistic"

"We should stop bombing third world nations"

"You're being unrealistic"

"We should try socialism"

"You're being unrealistic"

"We should make people's lives better"

"You're being unrealistic"

This is not an argument, it's nitpicky tone-policing. It's so god damn tiring being told what is and isn't realistic and it happens like clockwork.

I'm fairly sure post-Brexit Britannia will have other things to worry about. Like actually trying to survive.

If you're side had enough support it would of happened already. If it did play out they could still call themselves pretenders to crown and get a lot tourist money on their private property.

Dude I never said it couldn't happened. I said you can't take their ownership of their property. Even if the Monarchy was abolished.

Sure you can. You realise the quid pro quo about the Royal Estate don't you? I mean if the 'Windsors' want to take on the the national debt then they can keep the Royal Estate (well except for the coastline, the continental shelf, and the mineral rights because while that's magically in the royal estate it ain't private property)

Wait, so the criteria for being a monarch is who could bring the most tourism money?
Because I think King Idris Alba can make a bit more than this bucket of charisma -

Maybe Simon Cowell can do a show where you get to choose your monarch, it will still be more reasonable than the current system.

Honestly if nationalised Buckingham Palace and opened it up to the public for tours you'd make a fuck ton more tourist money than they do at the moment

X-Factor: Royal edition and/or Britains Got Ruling Talent would bring in a lot of revenue as well. Some of the auditions would probably be a hoot.

If the monarchy was abolished anybody with royal lineage can make a claim. Just look at France they have like 5 pretenders to the crown.

It's certainly nice to want things, but this very much feels like some half-baked idea designed to whip up jingoistic fervour rather than any thought out plan. The UK does have facilities already in Singapore and a garrison in Brunei, but most of what the Royal Navy does in the Caribbean (training, anti-drug trafficking and disaster relief) can and is comfortably done out of host nation ports, or even the US. There's a myriad of other problems with permanent bases too, beyond just paying for them, which are gone into here.

Williamson's been mouthing off a lot this year, seems pretty ill suited to what should be a sober role.

That how you got your current monarchs. You passed a law that kings cannot be catholics and this rando in Germany who never been to the UK and didn't speak English just King Ralph-ed himself it into the throne.
Seriously, he was like 50 in line, just the first non catholic.

And that's why his descendants never need to work if they don't feel like it, I mean, it's only fair.
