honestly i feel like the only reason we have this discourse once a month despite the name clearly sticking with people who actually make & play modern boomer shooters is because some gen xers feel slighted its not named after them

This. It should be either retro shooters or doom clones, regrettably it doesn't work that way.
I'd vote for "Retro FPS." That lets me understand exactly what I'm getting into.
I'm guessing there's a divide based on the age of people responding. I'm in an age group that "boomer" pokes fun at even though I'm not an actual boomer. I've never heard someone my age use "boomer" in a derogatory way, so my mind doesn't jump there naturally. "Boomer" makes me think of rocket launchers and Boomer enemy types in Gears of War.
It's kind of ironic that I don't think many "boomers" outside of enthusiasts would have any idea what the term "boomer shooter" means.

Half Life isn't a boomer shooter, it's what killed the original boomer shooters.

I think Boomer Shooters is a solid name because everyone knows exactly what it means. It doesn't mean the people who play them are Baby Boomers for fuck's sake!
Ion Fury I already mentioned. Running with Scissors have been known dickheads forever. New Blood is a publisher, not a developer. Brutal Doom is a mod, not a game. I wouldn't personally classify Hatred as a boomer shooter. I'm not sure what the issue is with Slipgate Ironworks.

Most people can conjure a mental image of a boomer. Like, didn't we already establish that it's used to mean "old person."
I honestly think a lot of it is people going "What a second, I played those games when they came out, and I'm not old!"
Old school fps is how I refer to them.

Boomer shooter could work for the fact that they're old style shooters and the fact that they're all based on running in and obliterating everything as fast as possible. Shock & awe kind of gunplay, you know?
Boomer Shooters because a Boomer already sounds like a weapon.

y'know, my dad loves video games but could never play the likes of Doom because of all the fast twitch movement gave him nausea. I suspect that's not uncommon for a lot of older gamers, not to mention that the fast-paced action is definitely more for a younger crowd's reflexes, which is why the name never really made much sense to me.

It's a term thrown at people that like the old way something was done. For example I once saw someone here on Era tell someone else to "stop being a boomer" because they didn't like that Exp. Share is always on in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
