After playing with my SNESC for 2 days I'm not sure I care about SNES games anymore, especially the very common well known games that will surely be in the service. GBA games would be interesting though.

I hope Game Boy games come to the Switch as well. Maybe Nintendo is having a hard time coming up with a controller to sell for them? I'd buy official Joy-cons that replicate the color scheme of the original (and features a d-pad). I love the 8BitDo that mimics the original Game Boy aesthetic.

SNES via NSO is nice and all, but after what's happened with the NES side of the service my expectations are very low. It will just be a small collection of very "known" first party games along with a small smattering of 3rd party games, slowly dripped out month to month. No kind of comprehensive collection, nor will we see releases of lesser known titles or translations for games that never officially made it to the west. Basically the responsibility for the majority of that stuff has been left to 3rd parties, which isn't bad per se as we've gotten some really good collections and re-releases over the last few years, but I wish Nintendo would put more emphasis on curating, archiving, and restoring their systems' back catalogs to ensure the survival and longevity of classic games. Particularly given their heavy handed stance on emulation/roms.

Hopefully they make it to some of the portable systems soon though, at least the popular games from systems like the GBA haven't been released 10 times over. I'm not sure I care to see N64/GC games released over this kind of service as I doubt much would be done to clean up the performance and visuals(if at all), so ultimately PC emulation would be a much superior experience. I'd rather see some remasters for those games, but unfortunately Nintendo has largely been very resistant to that.

So every holiday season we get another console added to the Switch? N64 next year, Gamecube 2021 and Wii 2022?

Seeing this reminded me that I never ordered the NES ones. And made me think... hmm... what are the odds they quit selling the NES ones as soon as they announce and release the SNES ones..? Probably pretty decent knowing Nintendo and their silliness.

So I just ordered a pair. In case people are curious the NES ones are *not* cheap. $59.99 US not including tax or shipping. My total came out just now to $70.35. Man, Nintendo is no joke with controller prices these days. Also, active Nintendo Online subscription required to purchase and you can only purchase one pair per account.

Yea, I would probably get them if they're $39.99 plus shipping and handling. I really only need one, so I'm kind of just debating getting an NES classic refurb from Nintendo and using the controller with my 8BitDo adapter. I could also just get 8BitDo's $24.99 knock offs. But I like official Nintendo hardware.

Honestly the version of Super Mario World in All-Stars + World is technically a bit better than the original release because it has otherwise-unique Luigi sprites and an extra save slot for the game, so I wish we were getting that rather than the two as separate releases.

I mean it's a subscription service anyway, so it's not like the distinction matters!!

So this basically deconfirms Gameboy and confirms we'll get more VC repeats of the same games that were rereleased on Wii/Wii U/SNES Mini. Urgh. Unless they do what they're doing this month with NES and focus on more obscure games like Cybernator, Breath Of Fire/Lufia/Live a Live instead of just first party stuff, and continue to release NES games alongside SNES one, then it's even more waiting to get a system that barely got VC representation to begin with (GB/GBC got the shaft on 3DS)

Or better yet, remaining first party games not caught up in legal issues. Like Mario all stars/Battle Clash. Or somehow get the rights from Bullet Proof Software for SNES Yoshi Cookie/Wario's Woods

Yeah that was definitely out of left field. It will be interesting to see if they continue down that path at all.
Yeah.

Basically I want this entire list more or less

I would redownload the app the moment Little Samson or Metal Storm dropped.

I find these titles much more enticing than the vast majority of the mainstays of NES library, partly because they didn't immediately get evolved follow ups the very next generation to render them borderline obsolete and partly because some of these are nonsensically pricy outside of emulation.

Also the two games I mentioned are legit great. I tend to like late NES games better in general.

Nintendo is always going to look for ways to introduce (ie make some money off of) their classic games to people unfamiliar with them. It makes financial sense to consistently reintroduce these classic titles. There is always going to be a portion of the audience that has never played them. The SNES classic isn't readily available anymore, which means a lot people will be playing those SNES games for the first time when they are released for NSO. It might be hard to believe but kids that were 8 when the SNES classic was released, and never got one, are now 10 and might be getting a Switch and their first Nintendo platform. That's a whole new audience for Nintendo to get new fans from.

I played the crap out of my SNES Claasic so I'm probably set on SNES nostalgia for a while unless they add some really obscure stuff to the Switch. I already added most of the stuff I wanted to go back to to the Classic's lineup.

I'm ready for my GBA nostalgia to be exploited though.

Very true. And suspect that this will be the main reason behind the increased likelihood of SNES games on Switch.

Will be quite the treat to play Super Metroid and Star Fox portably

My love for the SNES largely pertains to its third-party catalog — particularly Squaresoft, which I doubt we'll be seeing through an SNES app — but I'm still pretty excited.

A lot of people called this. They would use SNES games as the carrot to get people to sub again for the second year.
Absolutely fucking pathetic and I really don't have much interest outside of a few games here and there
Providing more value for your service at the same low price is pathetic, you heard it here first folks. The "carrot" is playing online games like Pokemon, thats the entire point. The old games are not what people outside of Era subscribe to it for.

I can only speak to the current gen 8bitdo controllers (snes and nes) but they are indistinguishable from official nintendo hardware imo. And wireless (with appropriate receiver) on the classic systems.

I own their latest SN30 Pro+ (G Classic) and I love it. I like their current take on the NES controller, the one with the turbo buttons. And I'm tempted because it's only $25, but Nostalgia wants the official NES. I love using my SNES classic controller with the 8BitDo adapter.

Awesome! How's the dpad on that + version?

I have the NES one with the two turbo buttons, works wonderfully well for Contra, haven't used turbo buttons since the NES Max controller in 1990 lol.

Still interested to see if Contra 3 makes the launch lineup now that Konami's re-released it elsewhere.

I thought they did? Capcom released it on Wii U and n3DS Virtual Consoles?

It did. That being said, there's no guarantee that whatever agreement Capcom and Square made was a one-time fix. It's possible Capcom needs Square to sign off any time they re-release that version of the game. Not an impossibility, of course, but it would mean that Capcom would be more likely to throw BoF2 at a launch lineup just since it's easier for them to release.

Also, on the point of Square preferring mobile or other re-releases (and not supporting the NSO as of yet), I can honestly deal with them hoarding stuff like the Final Fantasies for higher-priced releases if they'd just be like Capcom and Konami and let their lesser known stuff show up on services like this. Like, you aren't going to remake Secret of Evermore or 7th Saga or most of the Taito catalog any time soon. Give them another life on platforms like this.

Well, it probably more comes down to Nintendo doing the licensing work really. It generally did on Virtual Console too, at least for their own platforms.

And yes, I want Taito on NSO so bad (online Bubble Bobble!). They're probably up there with D4 (Compile), Natsume and Irem in terms of companies I want to see jump in. I agree Square is likely to save FF/DQ for dedicated premium releases and collections but I could see more oddball things like Rad Racer or King's Knight still making it.
