Pretty sure you're safe to watch it after 0079Okay. Where does Origins fit in? I know it's a prequel, but does it spoil anything if I watch it after 0079?

The Origin can be watched on CR, but it is the serial version (Rise of the Red Comet). At least we have the Unicorn OVA on Netflix.Hulu has The Origin here in the US, was it ever licensed for release in Spain?
Yeah, 100% truth here. The original trilogy and CCA should be enough. Watch Zeta, ZZ, Unicorn or The Origin afterwards if you're in a binging mood because they're good to varying degrees, but they're not super necessary. This is way overkill.
If you want to watch this movie
- Char's Counterattack is mandatory watching as Hathaway is a direct sequel.
- Watching the original movie trilogy first of all is also ideal and very much recommended for world-building and getting to know Amuro and Char - their ideas and differences are centerpiece to what happens in CCA and what fuels Hathaway.
Those should be available on Netflix in a lot of countries, now or soon (France is June 18 for instance).
Just watch what's available, do not worry about old vs new audio mix.
Opinion:
IMO the original trilogy is a very good watch even today. The first movie's animation is rough, but it gets MUCH better over the course of the trilogy + the story and characters will get you 100% if you let yourselves be pulled in.
CCA will be confusing on a first watch - keep in mind that's it's more of a conflict of ideals between two men than an epic war, enjoy the great animation and score.
Huh so Nozomu Sasaki has a role?
Well I mean "since 1988" isn't saying much since it was one movie only.Huh so Nozomu Sasaki has a role?
He seemed pissed after not getting the lead role (I mean dude has been Hathaway since 1988) so I didn't expect him to show up, good for him.

Yeah I have a feeling that if the Gundam live show does well enough Netflix will be a Gundam streaming sourceI hope that later down the road, Netflix somehow secures the streaming rights to UC shows too. It would be nice for a single streaming actor to consolidate as much of these shows, OVAs and movies as possible.
edit : just realized Netflix is probably gonna have the awful 5.1 remastered Japanese soundtrack for the original movie trilogy and will skip the original soundtrack. FML.
I assume watching Hathaway without having seen CCA is a much worse experience than watching CCA without having seen Zeta. Honestly, I first watched Zeta after CCA, and it's not that big of a deal. You're gonna get a large time skip, but I've always felt CCA was more than anything a sequel to the OG series/movies. You can and should fill in the gap afterwards. This is great news! I've been very, very slowly working my way through UC Gundam for the first time the last year or so. Just into Zeta recently but I might pick up the pace to get through ZZ and CCA soon. Would've liked to watch stuff in production order but I jumped the ahead and watched The Origin right after 0079. Looking forward to Hathaway though.
I assume I need to watch all of Zeta and ZZ before I can even think about watching CCA?

Is that Narrative movie connected in any way to this movie?
I keep hearing horrible things about Narrative so I never got around watching that.
Netflix has everyone one needs to enjoy Hathaway when it's out. The first 3 Gundam movies and Char's Counterattack.Anybody have that updated Gundam timeline/watch order with pro's and cons handy?

It takes place in between CCA and Hathaway. But Hathaway is adapted from a book series written 30 years ago, well before Unicorn existed. So unless they've rewritten anything as part of the adaptation, it shouldn't reference Unicorn at all.Watched the first three movies and will watch CCA soon. Should I watch Unicorn as well on Netflix? Does it take place before or after Hathaway?
I don't think it's terrible, but I find it falls short of the rest of Unicorn. No particular story connections. But I myself am not really sure why people are calling Narrative "horrible". I thought it was entertaining. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm hype as fuck .This is out now on U.S. Netflix!

After Char’s rebellion, Hathaway Noa leads an insurgency against Earth Federation, but meeting an enemy officer and a mysterious woman alters his fate.www.netflix.com
I watched the first ten minutes during a break, might not watch the rest till later, but definitely some nice looking animation from the start!
I think it's watchable, but such a big part of Hathaway's character and his motivations comes from what happens to him in Char's Counterattack which is referenced, but not clearly explained in the Hathaway movie. That was pretty good! Really nice looking fights and good character building.
I honestly don't think, at least for this first part, that you need a ton of background UC knowledge to enjoy it. The characters and motivations in this are pretty self contained. Like you could easily watch this first, and then go back into other stuff for background.
Definitely agree with the weight. The lighting, sounds, and animation during the combat sequences were so well done. I watched the movie twice and keep going back to these scenes.
Was not a big fan of the movie. I thought it was confusing at times and stuff was happening without any clear reason why it was happening. I had to wiki the book synopsis to make sense of what the current state of the world was and to figure out some of the character motivations. Not a surprise that there were missteps in the adaptation like this considering these were the same guys who adapted Gundam Unicorn. There was also some, really low quality CGI models too.
Kinda how i felt since i haven't seen anything about gundam so far. And that Gigi character. ... Well.Wish the film tried to explore who these characters were more. It felt like I was supposed to know who nearly everybody was before watching this, and unless I'm mistaken, Hathaway and flashbacks to other characters are really the only recurring characters from previous Gundam lore. Everyone else just shows up in a way that feels like "oh, I should know who Emerelda Zubin is" before she is on screen.
