Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast:

"What did I see? Can I believe?
That what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy?
Just what I saw in my old dreams
Were they reflections of my Walkman staring back at me?"

Also, the Japanese/European Sonic CD boss theme. Somehow I always heard "work that sucker to death" as "work that flabby belly", which kind of made sense in my mind given Robotnik/Eggman's figure.

Taylor Swift - Blank Space

A bunch of people misheard

I've gotta long list of ex-lovers

as

All the lonely Starbucks lovers

That bunch of people included her dad, who asked her what "Starbucks lovers" were when he first heard the song.

Wonder if her dad asked how many.

I've been listening to Fall Out Boy's Sugar, We're Going Down since the day it came out and for years the chorus was just a garbled mess of sounds that would not translate to words until the five hundredth listen where it all clicked.

As a kid, I thought the line "Australians all let us rejoice" from the national anthem was "Australians all are ostriches". I figured an ostrich was kind of like an emu, so it made sense.

I always love Lady Gaga's Poker Face because most don't realize what the actual chorus is.

[Post-Chorus]
P-p-p-poker face, f-f-fuck her face
(Mum mum mum mah)
P-p-p-poker face, f-f-fuck her face
(Mum mum mum mah)

Wait that actually is what she's saying and I'm not crazy?

I heard it as "I miss the rains down in Africa."

I still think my version is better.

Same. I didn't even know those weren't thr lyrics till this thread.

She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find the butter, man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find the butter, man

He's a secret Asian man,
Secret Asian man,
They've given you a number,
And taken away your name.

I thought it was about a guy trying to evade internment camps in WWII.

I misheard "heartache" for "party" for so long.

There's gonna be a party tonight,
a party tonight I know

Really changes the whole mood of the song.

The Green Day song "American Idiot".

For the longest time I thought he was saying "Ameri-Canadian" and I thought it was cool since I am a Canadian in America... felt relatable lol.

So dumb.

Genuinely thought "I bless the rains down in Africa" was "I catch the waves down in Africa" for the longest time.

As a child I thought it was "I guess it rains down in Africa", which I couldn't work out as this was big time TV attention on African famines period. Always thought it had some deeper meaning I wasn't getting or it was some type of troll.

EDIT - I see I am not the only one!

I used to think the lyrics in the 'Dirty Deeds' song by AC/DC were "Dirty Deeds and the Thunder Chief" and was confused as to why they were mentioning a Killer Instinct character. Lol

Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundations

What I heard for years

"Baby, baby, try to find (Hey, hey, hey)
A little time and I'll make you happy (Hey, hey, hey)
I'll be home, my baby xylophone waiting for you
Ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh"

Actual Lyrics

"Baby, baby, try to find (Hey, hey, hey)
A little time and I'll make you happy (Hey, hey, hey)
I'll be home, I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
Ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh"

For Toto's Africa, I thought it was "I touch the planes down in Africa", since he talks about flying and you see a plane touching down in Africa in the film clip.

Is "I bless the rains down in Africa" the most misheard lyric of all time?

The beginning of satellite by Guster always sounded "Shawdi was a work of art" but I'm from Atlanta and somebody singing that would not make me bat an eye.

I thought the lyrics were

They paved paradise. Now put up a fucking fight!

instead of

They paved paradise. And put up a parking lot.

Latinos sang Daft Punk's Get Lucky as

"Vamos pa kentocky. Vamos pa Kentocky"

Which translates to "We are going to KFC". Yes, the chicken one.

"C'mon, c'mon: Leave me breastless."

I was not a smart kid.

"I'm your fetus, I'm your fire. Your desire."

I thought it was, like, an anthem for women who were trying to have a child.

My fiancé thought the Metallica 'Enter Sandman' chorus went "Eggs Delight!"

Like they're singing about some fancy deviled egg dish.
