I got a 3080 12gb at the end of May and I'm honestly really happy with it. Could it have been cheaper? Of course. But with that said the power draw isn't ridiculous, it's very fast, and it should be able to play games well for a long while to come.

Having spent the better part of 2020 till now on a 580 and a 1060 3gb, I didn't want to wait anymore and I'd rather have the card than have to deal with stock issues and instant sellouts. Plus something new is always around the corner.

I do agree that waiting is probably the better move, especially the closer to the end of the year we get, but buying now does have its benefits and we do look to be past the worst of the scalper pricing..

I could see Nvidia delaying the new series to clear stock. This so called "sale" of theirs is a weak attempt to keep the notion prices are good so they can charge more for the 4000 series. If that doesn't work they will just have a paper launch.
They won't do that because AMD will be releasing their RX 7xxx series in October/November and Nvidia would never allow a competitor to claim the performance crown.

I got one with a waterblock last week for way under MSRP. Was supposed to get it today but UPS fucked up. That's said, I haven't even got it yet and I'm happy with it. Even if the 4000 series comes out this year I most likely won't be able to secure one anyways.

I've been thinking and, if the price is right, I'll try to grab an RDNA3 at launch. I'd kill for a 7800 but given my budget I'm hoping the 7600 will be priced fairly (or maybe 7700 if it's worth the stretch). How much do you folks gather that card could be MSRP?

In the end, are we not in the age of games being capped by the CPU still?

Thanks for the thread, I'm in the market for a new build but really hold and wait is the best option right now, especially since GPUs are all overpriced

What I don't get is RDNA2 was supposed to help create more price competition with Nvidia, but instead prices went up and we're all getting fleeced

The 4000 series will most likely need 850W right? I have a 750W now and redoing the power supply is always a huge pain in the ass
Unless you plan on getting a 4080 or higher you'll be just fine. Even with a 4080 you'll probably also be fine.

As for the OP yeah I'm holding off this gen, I'm very excited for the gains but tbh we're already at a point where my card is underutilized I really don't need it.

I'm on a 1060, I'll upgrade whenever I feel I'm not getting robbed.

I'm still aiming for 1080p60 for the foreseeable future so I don't think I'll need anything fancy TBH. If 3060Ti deals just weren't so absurd...

I was one of the lucky few that got a RTX 3080 as part of EVGA's queue when they first launched back in 2020 and paid MSRP too.

I probably won't be rebuilding my PC until 2025 at the minimum and will probably wait until the RTX 5000 or even 6000 series drops.

Tried to hold, but this 970 is already 6 years old and I'm worried it might die one of these days.

Regardless, with the 3070, a 1000W PSU and 32GB RAM, this build will be more than enough for many years to come.

At this point, I forgot whether I had a 3070 or a 3080. My most played game is Vampire Survivors.

I can hold until the next series at this rate.

I'm figuring there will be a Ti model. Tales from my ass MSRP (not aftermarket) prediction would be more like
4050 - $300
4060 - $400
4060Ti - $500
4070 - $650
4070Ti - $750
4080 - $900
4080Ti - $1200
4090/Ti - More than my monthly net income.
I'm just wondering how well the 4090 would sell if they shocked us and priced it 1,000

I have a 3,500 budget to build my first pc It's between the 4090 and 7900 xt for me and I'm now leaning towards the 7900 xt cause I'm scared the 4090 will be 2,000 which is a complete rip off for the price

Damn, I'm still waiting to upgrade my Razer gaming laptop with 4000 series. I'm still sporting 1070 from 2018.

I'm on a 1660 Super. I feel like if I stick with 1080p and with games that support FSR, I can hold on for a few more years.

I'm not buying a new card until I can get something decent for $199-$229. Fuck this shit.

Yup, this is how I feel about entry-level cards. Even an MSRP for a 3050 is too much IMO. It should be closer to $199.

I was able to snag a asus TUF 3070ti for $490 after tax on Best Buy's site (I have total tech). I don't need it because I have a 3080 already (shout out to the era discord crew who we all spent weeks together grinding that out at launch lol). It's taking forever to actually show up. But I feel like that's an appropriate price for that card. So I'll be making a buddy or Era member happy once it shows up.

Wait them out long enough and they'll be paying us to take 4000 cards from them.

It still blows my mind how inflated the GPU market has become over the last few years. Even if the Nvidia cards were available at their MSRP, they're still higher than they should be.

AMD's current pricing is bizarre. They have 5* products between 300-500 and those are all relatively decent value, but above that price and below that price it's a mess.

I haven't seen a Nvidia rtx card in stock for years. Only 3rd party models are available here (Canada).

Still using a 970, and I barely game on PC at all anymore aside from emulation since I have a PS5 and Switch. I was tempted to get a 3070 for $550 last week on Newegg but didn't go for it. I don't really want to pay over $500 for a GPU unless it's an appreciable improvement over the PS5 to me, and I need to build a whole new PC at this point anyway. Going to wait and see what the 40XX are like.

Man I am still working on this 1080 and not gonna lie some of these newer games would have benefited from having something more powerful. I was thinking of finally biting on a 3XXX series card once the 4XXX series hit but I should still hold out longer?

Depends on what you want. I have a 1660 Super and I don't intend to upgrade until a few more years later. Remember, AMD's FSR supports all GPUs now. If more games use FSR, your GPU can hold out a bit longer. Of course, FSR needs to be widely adapted first.

As long as your current card is still working, there's really no reason to buy now if you've been able to avoid it for this long.

I feel zero sympathy for Nvidia after the shit they pulled with the Ti cards when stock was low.

for once in your lives have some self control gamers and put the screws to these bastards who were gouging all of you these past couple of years. although nvidia really is the main culprit.

Honestly ready to upgrade my 3080. I've had it since launch and it feels like old news at this point. It can run most things at 4K 70-80 FPS but I really want 4K at 120.

Ahh well look at that. My RTX2080 Super is going for below its purchase price again.

Man that was a bizarre time indeed. Don't think I can ever recall a GPU appreciating on me like that. It would have been a trap to sell it for profit and not be able to replace it, but it was funny to think about for a time.

I have a 1070ti so I probably need an upgrade but I'm not really sure I need a super crazy high end GPU.

Still waiting to see any price drops for 30 series cards here lol.. they remain same scalper prices high and I don't think they'll drop here.
