The 3rd Edition on Resetera of How Much Am I spending on Video Games.
For rules see below

New Members/everybody is welcome.
For Members who kept their record last year on or off Resetera and feel happy with sharing their spending costs can post their last year spending and keep track of this years spending in the same post.

Hello Folks this is a thread for people who want to keep track of their video game spendings.

Everything you spent on videogames from January 1 2020 to ... infinite thread.
Items which counts towards your video game spendings.
- Games digital or physical.
- DLC, season passes and other digital game related stuff.
- Special and Collectors Editions.
- Gaming accessoires controllers, Headsets etc.
- Strategy Guides and PDFs.
- Consoles or PC gaming setup.
- Amiibo's and NFCs or other stuff which you can transfer into your game.
- A Happy Meal with Amiibo's or similair things.
- Selling a game counts as cash so keep track of those too.

Which items don't count towards video game spendings.
- Merchandise like Vinyl, Cups, Tshirts and other items which are not part of a Special or Collectors Edition.
- No Software such as Word.
- Game related books wich is not falling under the category of a Strategy Guide.

This thread is about knowing your spending habit and if we manage to keep this thread going for a few years you can see which months you spend more on games then previous months.

When you buy a game or sell one you can post that in here, but also keep a list of it in one of your posts.

To give you all an example this was how my list looked like for 2017, 2018 and 2019
I've spend €273,73 more on video games and consoles in 2018 then in 2017.
I've spend €24,42 less on video games and consoles in 2019 then in 2018. (I hope this trend won't continue, but unfortunately with next-gen consoles coming out I think it will)
My goal was and is not to exceed spending more then €150 per month when looked back to the year results.
Happy buying and gaming in 2020 everybody.

Probably over 2.5k if I really think about it as it'll be my full upgrade cycle. Includes PC upgrade, TV and new consoles. Then adding games on top... Yeah think that's likely to push me into the top category probably.

Normally I'd spend around 500 dollars, but since I'm planning to buy both PS5 and XSX, it's going to be around 1500 this year.

I get the feeling this is going to be an expensive year. Will be spending well over £1k this year with all the brilliant PS4 games coming and then PS5 on day 1 and around 5 launch games to fuck around on.

It'll be a very expensive year for me for hardware alone.

I built a new PC last year minus a GPU, so going to be upgrading that.
Assuming it's released, a PS5.
Going to finally upgrade to a 4k tv.

Unless God of War II is not a launch title, i guess 1000-1200€ for upgrading my PC, no PS5 or Xbox SeX.

And X amount for various games, i don't know how many games.

I tried this last year but lost track really quick. Gonna try it again and see how it goes.
Thinking 251-1000 here. My best buy GCU expired so I won't be buying games day 1 much anymore, waiting on deep discounts.

Will most likely be buying a PS5 at launch though so that'll make a huge dent. Maybe an Oculus Quest/Rift too if it goes cheap enough or a new model comes out.

Samurai Shodown (PS4) - $15

I'm probably only spending on software this year unless hardware or controllers break for whatever reason. Not sure how much yet, but definitely less than 1000 euros.

$251-$1000.

Probably on the lower end. I actually borrow a lot of games from the library. Just got iconoclasts, timespinner, wonder boy, and obra fin from psn though. AAA games I usually borrow

It'll be quite less than 2019 where I spent £3,350 on hardware alone for my PC. I'm done upgrading my PC. So this is how 2020 looks for me at the moment:

Hardware:

XSX - assuming £450-550.

4KTV - £400-500. i'm only going to be using a console on it so i don't need a fancy high end OLED tv. as long as the TV isn't garbage then i'm happy. will probably not buy one until mid year or so. I'm holding off as long as possible to get it cheap as possible.

Games/Software:

Xbox Ultimate Subscription - about £130 for a year.

Cyberpunk 2077 - will be buying this on PS4, PC, and XSX. At £55 per copy that'll be £165. I'll also buy any DLC/Expansions for all 3 platforms. Say it's £20 like Witcher 3 then my total will be £225

Doom Eternal - either PC or XSX but not sure when. Assuming £30-50.

Persona 5 Royal - Will be buying the Ultimate Edition which is listed as £85

Animal Crossing - Switch obviously. £50 or so.

Watch Dogs Legion - If it's any good I'll get it for either PC or XSX. Could wait for a sale so £30-50.

The Last of Us 2 - £55

Halo Infinite - Will be able to play on either PC or XSX. £55

Total: £1,510-1,750

I was really pleased with myself in 2019, as I 'only' spent £368.49 across 16 games (averages out at £23 per game) and I managed to compete all of them too!

This year is going to be so, so expensive for some folks however, I am never one to buy new home consoles at launch, mostly because there always seems to be niggling hardware issues, a lack of truly compelling games and in the case of the Xbox One, its price dropped dramatically in a space of a year.

On the other hand, there are so many good games coming out this year, especially on the PlayStation 4.

Dreams, Iron Man VR, The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, along with third party exclusives such as the long awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

This is going to be a tough year ... 😨

Is there a logical reason why you're choosing to buy the very same game, let alone the DLC, three times?!

Depends if I get a PS5 right away, otherwise I have already spent $32.74 this year (Anno 1800 on Epic Store).

Why the XSX when you have a 3000 pounds PC? Honest question because my main motivation for going PC this gen is that almost everything seems to come out on PC anyways especially MS stuff.

well, i'll be buying it on PS4 + PC at launch. i'm going to be going back and forth between them both. on one i'll do a FemV playthrough making certain choices and on the other I'll do a MaleV playthrough doing different choices. I'll buy it on XSX because that'll be able to play the Xbox One version if we don't get a next gen remaster. XSX will be my main platform once it launches. I'll do future playthroughs on that.

because i don't plan on upgrading my PC at all. sure this PC is powerful and will last me a good few years but once it starts to struggle then i won't be upgrading it. when that happens I'll be abandoning PC gaming and just play on Xbox.

I spent around around £1.1k last year: 500-550 on games (I stick to a £50 a month budget), few months of ps+/gamepass, and the rest on a new graphics card and freesync monitor

No plans to upgrade PC this year or purchase the new consoles, I usually wait for 2-3 must play exclusive games being available before I buy new consoles, plenty else to keep me occupied this year in the meantime. Expect to spend 500-600 this year.

Game wise I'll pick for sure FFVII Remake, TLoU2, GoT, RE3, and probalby some metroidvanias and a PS5 launch game, so like U$400.00.
And hardware it'll be a PS5 on launch day and maybe an extra controller, so like U$450.00~550.00, which brings my total to U$850.00~950.00.
Gotta be strong to not go over budget....

I'm already lined up for 4 guaranteed game purchases in the first half of 2020, 1 will be a day-1 double dip since I will be needing copies for both myself and my partner, and another is going to be a very expensive Collectors Edition purchase.

I'm anticipating getting one of the two next-gen consoles in the fall right at launch. If I end up with Xbox Series X, I'll probably take advantage of any deals I can get to extend my Game Pass subscription by up to another year, and I expect promotional pricing to be a little less aggressive and consumer-friendly this year. I suppose either way I go, I'll end up buying at least one or two launch games alongside the console.

So definitely in the 1001+ group, even with a ton of unknowns about 2020. Definitely don't want to be above 2500 by the end of the year, though.

If next gen comes in at $399 I'll be buying in. If not I'm only getting TLOU2, GOT and FF7 Remake so about $180.

This year will surely be interesting (as in: crazy expensive) for many people on Era. I managed to reduce my spending a bit over the years, but no chance I will (or want) to do so this year. With the old consoles on their way out at least the games should plummet in price.

Estimate 2020:
Between €600 and €1000, depending on console pricing (not sure yet if PS5 or Series X, but I'll get one of them), what games will be available at launch and how disciplined I am with my backlog.

Game Pass, a couple of non Game Pass games and the Series X. I suspect that could come in below $1000 but it could be slightly higher.

I reckon around £900-1000 this year assuming I only buy one next gen console this year and one next, thinking PS5 when God of war 2 comes out atm and series X on launch.

A rough estimate of 2019:

Death stranding special edition. Bought for 40. Sold for 45.
Jedi Fallen order. Bought for 50. Sold for 45
Control. Bought for 25. Sold for 30.
DMC V. Bought for 20. Sold for 15.
Resident Evil 2. Bought for 20. (have yet to play it)
Metro Exodus. Bought for 20. (have yet to play it)
Days Gone. Bought for 35. Sold for 30.
The Outer Worlds. Bought for 20. Sold for 28.
Crash Team racing. Bought for 23.
Rage 2. Bought for 20. Sold for 10.
Modern Warfare. Bought for 50.
Dreams Early-Access (but full game eventually). 30 digital.
Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC. 20 digital.
Hong Kong Massacre. 5.5 digital (discount code)

AC Odyssey Gold Edition* 32
Sekiro* 38
Wolfenstein 2* 8
Watch Dogs 2 Gold edition* 7
AC Unity* 3
PS Plus* 18

Paid: 475 euro. Got: 200 (additional +25 euro once I sell Resident evil 2 and Metro)
Total Physical + Main Account + *Secondary Account* = 250 euro

2020 gonna be an expensive year because I will be getting a PS5 day-1, and actually need to get a 4K TV as-well.... Not sure how much I will spend on games as of yet because I may wait on playing big new releases till I get my hands on a PS5. So yeh well over 2000 euro in 2020.

2019 ended a little over $400

Labo Kits 1&3 ($40 total at Target)
Ring Fit Adventure ($80)
2 NSO Vouchers purchased with discount gift cards (~$180)
Switch Pro Controller ($57)
Sushi Striker ($16 from Amazon)
New headset ($25)
Amazon Prime ($60, a portion of the total cost)

Looking ahead to 2020, I don't expect to spend that much. No new hardware, maybe only 4 or so retail games (Animal Crossing, Xenoblade HD, ?, ?), NSO sub if it doesn't come free with Amazon Prime again, Smash dlc, and Amazon Prime. I'm don't expect to pick up as many Switch retail games as I did last year and expect to continue not spending any money on PC given how huge my backlog is. So maybe $300 total

$2000+ for a new TV to go with the..
$1200 spent on new XSXs and parts
$100 on actual games and EA Access. I already have Gamepass Ultimate until 2022 thanks to the $1 conversion deal. That will give me access to thousands of dollars worth of games.

Might upgrade my PC too.

So, well over $3000, easily. Expensive year!

In the $2500 camp. With new consoles and the Nvidia 3000 series coming along with close to 100 games that I'm getting next year, it's gonna be expensive.

So far the only game i'm definitely buying is Last of Us 2.

I'm also interested in Flight Simulator however I'll wait and see how it turns out before making my decision.

Probably a lot. I put 251-1000. Will get either one or both the next gen consoles and at least one launch game.

Other than that most games will still be at heavily discounted prices. Don't think I spent *that* much in 2019. Probably less than 400 USD (did buy a replacement Switch which eats up a lot of that). Software wise it was probably less than 150-200USD.

Cyberpunk 2077 - will be buying this on PS4, PC, and XSX. At £55 per copy that'll be £165. I'll also buy any DLC/Expansions for all 3 platforms. Say it's £20 like Witcher 3 then my total will be £225

I spent $1,800 in 2018 and $1,600 in 2019.

Will likely be less than those amounts this year cause gotta wait longer for games to be in discount and higher discount.

The last two years I've pretty much gotten all the games I ever wanted...no joke lol.

$1001 to $2500 myself most likely

Cyberpunk 2077 at launch - $60
Xbox Series X - $500
PS5 - $500
Couple launch games each $240

Its January 1st and I'm already out at least $1300 and that doesn't even count the ps4 exclusives and 3rd party games I'm saving to buy on next gen. Like Last of Us 2 or Remake 3, besides Cyberpunk I'm clearing out the backlog and only using game pass which I have until 2022 until next gen.

I want to buy an oled this year but I will see where TVs are after CES

By years' end? Between the PS5 launch, all the crazy games this year and Xmas 2020 gifts, even if I wait for price drops I'm still probably gonna hit $1000, which is crazy for me.

Will almost certainly not get a PS5 at launch. Only got 2 games preordered at $60 each so far- RE3 and Yakuza Remastered Collection. I assume Yakuza 7 will be localized this year so +$60 for that. Assume Deadly Prem 2 will realise this year, +$60. I assume there'll be at least one other TBD game I'll buy, and that'll bring me over $250. So I will guess $251-$1000.

Somewhere between 1001 - 2500 sounds about right with possible GPU upgrade, XSX purchase and about 120€ worth of games.
