The void
At a part near the end where it is multiple waves of enemies and it is so frustrating. You die and you have to start from the beginning. Getting very angry.

I've never finished a Remedy game before, but I ended up playing straight through to the end while doing as many side quests as I could find. My biggest complaint is I have no idea what I'm missing without reading a guide so I'll probably never 100% it. I also would have liked some in-game achievements since they decided to release it on EGS and not Steam. Minor gripes aside, it was an amazing experience.

A couple of questions for anyone who has finished it:
Is there a way to interact with the jukebox that's off of central executive?
How many quests are there? I had 28 at the end and I couldn't find any more side quests.

About your two questions.

The jukebox isn't usable at the moment but there's two expansions coming so it may make an appearance in one of them.
I also had 28 missions completed and there hasn't been any more, believe PS4 has an exclusive mission, which may get patched in at a later date to PC/Xbox.

I talked to Control's narrative designer, Brooke Maggs, about the story continuing from the end of the game and where the DLC might go.

So uh, spoilers. And the expansions probably won't be coming until early 2020.

Very nice.

"We just released a blog post saying there are some things that we'd like to fix. So we're tackling those. Then we have a few things lined up before the end of the year, and then next year we have two expansions coming," Control narrative designer Brooke Maggs tells me in an interview at PAX West.

I wonder what these might be. I don't mind waiting for the DLCs if it means they are big, but some small pieces of content would be most welcome. I'd bet on the
jukebox

"Jesse is not a stranger to the unexplained. It's almost like, you've been told forever that what you saw was not real, and then you get to a place where everyone is like, 'Oh yeah, that's real,' and then you're like, 'Oh, I've found my people.' There's an element of that, even though she's not as expressive," she says. Maggs explains that Jesse's lack of expression is due to being closed down emotionally for so long, whereas within the Bureau Jesse can turn to helpful and inquisitive folks on the same page, like scientist Emily Pope.

"Jesse hasn't had someone who can find those answers for her. We didn't want to put narrative weight on her being surprised and shocked all the time," Maggs tells me.

This was talked about here and and I believe they made the right decision. Even though Jesse could have been a little less guarded sometimes, especially with characters that she builds a relationship with like Emily, the idea that she isn't shocked by all those things happened is great. Indeed, Jesse had me right at the beginning, after witnessing Trench suicide, picking up a magic gun, being teloported to an extra-dimensional place and listing to a huge inverted pyramid (in an unknown language too) she said "I'm happy here".

The best weapon to use against him are his own orbs, they pack a serious punch. I just used Grip with bonus damage as my gun. I don't even like Grip, but it's the most useful for the boss fights, where you need good range and reasonable rate of fire.

Beyond that, I found standing on a column to be best. At least you know when it's gone from under you.

Also, when he gets into the leg swinging stage, I found levitating to be best, and just dodge horizontally in the air. You can stay up there the whole time that he's swinging (or at least I could with my upgrades). Then just back onto the column when he stops. The only thing that's going to kill you is falling through a hole in the floor that you can't see, and this technique reduces the chances of that.

Appreciate the tips thanks much

Finished the game. It's the very definition of a game that starts out incredibly strong and just can't sustain it. The combat was the worst example of it, where the last few encounters are just not fun to play at all. The game plays best at the beginning when you have fewer powers and aren't fighting against hordes and hordes of shielded enemies.

The story ends up being ok. It doesn't quite land, but mystery box stories like this never do. Though it feels like a game that a couple of years from now the only thing I will remember from it is Darling.

i didn't engage with much of the side content, the shitty map sapped any desire for me to explore.

I just barely stumbled across something. For those that think their quest for Old Friends is bugged

I just came into the NSC pump room from the top control point and killed the last soldier by accident. He was one of the invisible kind of hiss... So he might really be there when you go in the room but just hidden.

I finished this quest today as well after thinking it was glitched. Turns out the enemy you're looking for is way up in the top portion of the pump room, which you end up in when you're doing a later sidequest hunting down mold spores.

Wild. I had the exact opposite experience. As I kept getting new abilities and upgrading those abilities and my weapons with mods, I found the game getting more and more fun. I would have played another 15 hours of the game if I was able to. Those last few combat encounters specifically I felt amazing just zipping around and priority targeting things to take them out before I was overwhelmed. And unlike most games that give you a bunch of powers, I used literally *every* single power at my disposal in those fights. The last time I felt as empowered in a game was DOOM 2016.

Shielded enemies are taken care of pretty easily with either telekinesis or a Charge with the +dmg to shielded enemies mod on it I found.

Spamming telekensis isn't fun and having so many shielded enemies encourages it to the point where I found the combat to become really stale because of it. Even beyond the shields, it does so much more damage than anything else in the game that your other options just become something to do when your throw meter is recharging.

That's different than where I found him. He was on the ground floor by the elevator for me. Makes me think he can spawn in random places making him super easy to miss.

Charge with mods does only slightly less damage than TK but in a sizable AoE and Grip does more damage headshotting tough enemies when you get their shield down than additional TKing does (plus is more reliable for taking out flying enemies). And I found Seize *well* worth the energy expenditure over telekinesis whenever an enemy was low hp. You do generally spend most of your energy on TK, yes, but I found weaving it between weapon shots (charge for area control, grip for focus firing flyers and bosses), seizing when possible, and floating around in the sky dodging about raining death from above offered a really diverse gameplay loop, which was helped by there being a decent variety of enemy types.

I dunno, it sounds like you played it very different than I did. I felt like I was a levitating psychic god using literally every skill at my disposal and had a blast. I played with a mouse and keyboard so maybe the added precision made my gun more reliable to me.

I'm kind of surprised by the map complaints. I can really only think of one time I couldn't figure out how to get somewhere and it turned out that area was locked behind a mission. Most of the time I didn't even need the map aside from fast travel.

Thanks! I'm a little disappointed there wasn't one more post-game story mission from Emily, but I guess that's what DLC is for.

I haven't finished the game yet (I'm up to the final boss) so won't read that right now, but really looking forward to checking it out when I do.

It's a shame that the expansions are so far away, I want more Control right now :)

The fact that the mission is in the PC version and can be unlocked with hex code indicates that it's probably just a timed PlayStation exclusive, or somebody at Remedy messed up :)

Ditto. I played on controller, and if you watched my Tommasi boss fight video you would've seen that I'm clearly no deadeye dick, and I still had a heap of fun with everything, including the guns. Admittedly I did use Shatter a lot, because hey, close enough is good enough with that thing :)

Continuously in awe of this game visual design.

Entering the furnace area was amazing due to its lighting. But after that I went to the Research Department, and just entering that lobby is.. wow, amazing.

Remedy's designers are god-tier.

So there's definitely a major bug where you can't construct a weapon. It just eats the resources you put into it without giving you the weapon. Luckily, I was able to roll my save back, but that sucks.

Speaking of bugged-out weapon constructs/upgrades, are you supposed to have more mod slots than 1 for Pierce? If so, that's the one that bugged out for me.

This happened to me last time I played except I bought the weapon twice. I think I'm going I go ahead and finish the game but come back for side content after updates.

And I'm just gonna throw this out here: I like the map and I really like the checkpoint system.

Just saying, because all the feedback Remedy is getting is negative on this, but I like it a lot, just didn't feel like saying because I didn't want to invalidate the issues others had. But at the same time, without positive feedback, it'll definitely get gutted in future games, since why would they keep something a lot of people disliked and the rest doesn't care either way?

Consistent checkpoints while the game saves everything you do even when you die is how Souls works, and is my favorite kind of checkpoint system. It never feels like anything I did was a waste of time, I never have to talk to people again, accept quests again, collect random shit again. Nothing is more frustrating about dying than having to even collect the useless herbs you got between your last save and your death, or quickly skipping through dialogue you've already seen just to make sure your save registers that you did that conversation, just in case.

This kind of checkpoint makes death part of the progression and the gameplay loop, instead of just "the story ends here, you can load a save and try again".

Yeah, there are negatives, like having to run back to where you were, but this is nothing compared to the time you save.

This game's level design is great, and definitely doesn't feel like a studio's first try at non-linearity. I hope Alan Wake 2 inherits a similar structure, this is fantastic.

Take me to the Oceanview Motel and Casino.

Jesse's walk is boss. Love the way she controls. Ah. Ha.

Map's fine. You have to use it in conjunction with the signs for full effect.

I've heard you need to do all the sidequests in order to get the true ending, is that correct ?

I quite like the game, it's not a fun game imho but its a gripping one, I like the story and the overall feeling.
Runs like a dream at uncapped FPS 1080p on my GTX 1070ti, sure it's not RTX levels and without ray tracing but I wouldn't get this with my console.
Levitation power up is kind of meh in how it controls (ho ho ho)

Got to play some more last night. This game really is special - I love everything about it. Agreed with the map complaints, though.

I'm trying to play slowly because I don't want to beat it too quickly. That's rare, for me.

Only good sidequest are the Langston's Runaways and Mirror world nearly everything else is simple go and shoot something, ofc unless you love lore of this game then do everything.

I'm sorry... but are you forgetting a very special side quest where you TALK TO THE PLANTS.

Which is in its own category of "go to area and find all the hidden things." Along with the shoot the mold on the walls quests. Super fucking annoying, those quests. Because it's just looking around aimlessly trying to find where they stashed all this shit away.

I just don't care about the story in this game. I'm having an okay amount of fun, but I lost interest in the narrative a pretty quickly. I started out reading every document I found, but they were so full of useless crap that I gave up on that. And now I I'm finding the story kinda boring. It doesn't feel like it's going anywhere and I was never intrigued about the mystery of the building.

And I thought I was the weird one just walking everywhere, especially when entering into a new area. Also people said the game reminds them of TEW 2, Prey etc, so let me add to the pile and say it reminds me a lot of INSIDE. Especially the maintenance sector. Combined with low humming sound, the whispers, total lack of music, the harsh yet gloomy industrial lights, I get very strong INSIDE vibes when just walking around that part of the map.

I wish there was some kind of post game bureau alert mode. I would love to have more frequent procedural content to give me reason to keep going around the building and engaging in the combat.
