There is a very large pushback currently taking place among coaches and players. Numerous coaches, including Harbaugh, Saban, Day, etc, are pushing back on the notion of cancelling the season. Nebraska's Scott Frost said the school is even looking at alternative options to play in another conference if the Big Ten cancels the season.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Coaches and certain universities: "Listen to the players, they understand the risk but this is their opportunity"

Also coaches and certain universities: "Players should just be happy that they're getting a scholarship and they don't need to be paid while we make billions of dollars"

I absolutely adore the sport of football. I feel like such an ass hypocrite though when stuff like this happens that reminds me how absolutely selfish, greedy, shitty and on and on so many of the people are who are involved in it, at all levels.

My god sister's son is heading to Auburn to play basketball this winter and they are all showing support for the players to play... I just don't get it.
It's not hard to get. They want normalcy. Kinda nuts all the politician involved now. And these kids don't even get paid lol.

The pushback is exactly how Americans react to change or slight inconveniences & we have Trevor Lawerence out here being anti science for a fucking payday he is already going to get, more evidence of us being fucked.

Yea this is everywhere now. Kudos to whichever PR person first said, " Make it seem like you're oppressed and use protest language so people forget it's a national health crisis." Ffs " I stand with" .. come on

Well it's a good thing that they have no say in any decisions.

If they decide to play, what are the chances they force players to sign waivers? 100%?

Like, they're thinking so much in the now that they aren't thinking about the long-term affects this can have on their bodies, especially if they're wanting to go pro eventually. It seems like the lungs are a pretty important part of playing most sports, but I'm not a doctor.

They HAVE to. The first player or coach that dies from it will bring a shitstorm.

It's the players that seem to be fighting for it. Why the hell wouldn't they take the opportunity to screw over the players.

NCAA already came out and said they can't be forced to sign waivers.

The easy argument is already coming from the top and it's not going to shift: these kids are probably safer under their bubble-ish protocols extended by their teams then anywhere else.

I'll say it again: we are getting a CFB season, folks.

Just comes down to who is opting out at this point. Conferences or players will and you'll probably see some move to independent status this year. You'll also see some schools cave into pressure/money/players asking to play.

I'm fine if they cancel as much as I love Clemson I dont need them to risk it. I dont see how you could have a safe season. Players yeah will be under the supervision of the school they have a better shot of not getting it. Fans however coming even at a limited capacity its a superspreader waiting to happen. Also in Clemsons case theres no way you can stop those fans from rushing the field at the end of home games.

Sometime I just don't even know what to say. I've noticed I ask myself "maybe I'm wrong?" You've got high profile people here who work for entities that have HR and legal departments, and are declaring their stance as the virus not being as dangerous as people are making it out to be. I mean, if they are doing something that could be held against them I'd think their schools/publicists/agents/etc. would tell them to shut up.

If they want to make the argument that players are safer in the bubble created at school, that relies on dozens of players and staff at each school adhering to it. Some of whom probably don't take it seriously anyway. And we've already seen pros in various sports fuck up by going to casinos, strip clubs, and wherever else. Who thinks college football players ain't gonna go chase ass or getting high once they get bored?

Mountain West (second best G5 conference) is out.

Meanwhile, in the Big 10, conflicting reports everywhere...

Southern Illinois @ Kansas still scheduled for August 29th. Thats the last holdout for August football. I'm sure it will be cancelled/postponed soon

Sad to see such a sense of urgency the GOP senators have over CFB than a public health crisis.

It's funny because I think I am actually LESS likely to die now that College Football is dead.

I wouldn't call it dead yet. Sounds like they are likely to either delay the start of the season to the end of September (as if that will make a difference) or push it to the spring. The conferences, coaches, and networks will do everything they can to have games so they can squeeze any potential money out of it even when common sense says it's better to just cancel the season.

I still can't believe this entire operation is fueled by unpaid workers. They can't even make money off their likenesses.

Look at this quote. So much caveats lol.

"We believe we can mitigate it down to a level that makes everyone safe," Wolfe told The Daily. "Can we safely have two teams meet on the field? I would say yes. Will it be tough? Yes. Will it be expensive and hard and lots of work? For sure. But I do believe you can sufficiently mitigate the risk of bringing COVID onto the football field or into the training room at a level that's no different than living as a student on campus."

How can two teams safety play in a non-bubble environment lol. I don't get that quote at all.

I don't understand the "delay until September" approach. The environment from now until September won't be much different. Spring I understand.

They dont want to cancel the season but they dont want to be blamed if games result in a disaster, so they'll just keep delaying until theres a vaccine.

They don't deserve a salary, anyone can do what they're doing right now, they sat around for the last 5 months with no plan and just hoping covid would magically go away like supreme leader told them it would.
