Just where you said "We were visiting pubs and socialising without mobile phones as a social crutch long before you were born" and assumed you thought mobile phones were anti-thetical to socialising
Actually that wasn't and still doesn't show any evidence of me having an issue with mobile phones in pubs. I never once stated that mobile phones were 'anti-thetical' to socialising. Run along kiddo and try it on someone else.

Message coming later is it?

Give him a minute, he's posting from his phone, and there's bad signal in his local.

Why do you assume everyone you speak to here is a kid or a youngster?

Ironic that these days the younger generation are always moaning about how the older generation are always moaning, yet it's those youngsters that are the ones getting offended by each and every article they read in the news.

We were visiting pubs and socialising without mobile phones as a social crutch long before you were even born. Find something else to whinge about.
I'm of the same vintage and opinion on the thread topic, am a remainer and have detested loud music & people gabbing loudly on mobiles in pubs since I was in my 20s in the 90s, so drop your outrage and drink somewhere that allows you to be an annoying prick.
Let's be real, you both seem like you wouldn't actually be fun or interesting people to go out drinking with, so your opinions on pubs and phones and those darn millineials really don't mean much.

Quit being mad and jealous of young people.

Let's face it, Team ancient old bugger isn't exactly filling this thread with the exuberance and joi de vivre you've all come to expect from us crusty old geezers.

I ran pubs for 10 years as my vocation. I think I'm far more qualified and experienced than you to be making any judgement on this topic so you can quit your assumptions as regards to being either mad, jealous or both.

What exactly is your judgement? Young people need to stop whining?

You didn't make a judgement on pubs, you made a judgment on young people and them whining. You came in this thread to whine about people whining.

You are older than me I shouldn't be needing to explain things to do. In fact as someone who is older you should be bringing up the generations after you not putting them down. But also I'm not entirely sure you're someone who younger generations can learn much good from given your activity in this thread. You're either a troll or just ignorant. Maybe you should try maturing a bit before we have this conversation.

I didn't make any judgement as it happens. If you take the time to read my previous posts then you will see that.

A couple of idiotic forum users decided to take my posts and, for whatever reason, use them in their agenda.

But then again, that's nothing new here right? As for maturing, you need to practice what you preach.

Let's also get to the crust of things shall we? I haven't actually been moaning about the original topic of conversation have I? It's you....the moaners, that have actually found something to moan about. I've stated my affirmation on the company's decision on their legislations.

I'm not the wanker troll here. You are.

Hard to believe they're still around. My first Sam Smith's was back in 1992 and it tasted like geezer ale.

I guess if you have you use an emergency call, you're fucked.

I don't think there's going to be any situation in which pub policy takes precedence over pressing need. "Please step out to make that call, please. I really don't care if your friend has turned blue and is frothing at the mouth." I can't see that happening.

Sam smiths is super old school. When we set up an account with them for the bar I used to work in, everything had to be done by post. They still deliver by horse and cart in the town they're based in. The imperial stout is banging though.

"Last year Frankie and Benny's became the first family restaurant in the UK to implement a ban on mobile phones."

Another reason (I wasn't even aware of) I can't stand that place
Haha this place is absolutely tanking. It used to have a vaguely Italian-American 1950s vibe, but they changed everything to be cheaper and the menu sucks.

My local Frankie & Benny's does a great Eggs Benedict/Royale, surprising given the quality of the standard menu. But it's also located in a shopping centre and a lot of their clientele are teens, so there's no way in hell they're enforcing a phone ban.

Is the breakfast still decent? The mains are laughable. Dry burgers, and I remember ordering mac and cheese that was barely enough for a starter, let alone a full meal.

I guess franchises depend on individual locales to a certain extent, but having worked at one in the past (miserable, utterly miserable) they seem to be relatively the same.

This is what you came to moan about, young people moaning, and you're also moaning about the idea that it's older people who moan (clearly a trend you've managed to avoid lol)

You were passing judgement as above, and congrats on the generalisation of the forum (what a shocker in combination with your no political talk and joke regarding spitting or swallowing ejaculate)

There are so many levels of moan you have brought upon this thread that to pretend you aren't doing the same is laughable

Though likely not a troll, wanker though ....

The "NO PHONES HAVE REAL CONVERSATION" arrogant posturing is a really irritating response to the natural part of our lives that smart device have become. Feel whatever way you want about it, it's here to stay.

Also I'm laughing at the prospect of ANY pub doing this to any great success, when restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs shut down on a running basis as the UK high street plunges into a gutter. You cannot afford to be so arrogant.

An old school pub without the constant haze of smoke (I'm just about old enough to have gone to pubs pre-smoking ban) is actually quite an appealing prospect.

Although the "fucking millennials" tone is eye-rolling.

God I dislike that chain, although I'll admit I occasionally go to my local one down the road on a Sunday morning for pancakes and to drink copious amounts of coffee. If an American-style diner came to my mid-sized Scottish town and did a good job of it, that would change, obviously.

Interesting.

I don't disagree with the idea.

Do people flock to Samuel Smith's in the UK like as a destination brewery to go to? USed to drink their beers a lot, 10, 15 years ago, but not anymore. Wasn't sure if it's a sought after place. I could see if it ruined the vibe if people were constantly snapchatting or instagramming that they're at the brewery or w/e.

Happens at TReehouse... basically impossible to walk around without someone taking out their phone and instagramming their beer.

If I'm going out alone I'll seek out bars and breweries that have wifi. If I'm with other people doesn't really matter. Also if I have to do some work, I'll often head to a bar or brewery to get it done, but I go to specific places to do that, and it's usually the middle of the day when it's not busy.

Yeah, I kinda feel the same. Kind of a timely topic as I went out with some other moms in town from my daughters' school on Fri, and we went to a Robinson's run pub (modernized/inviting decor) and there was a weird split in the bar area of people chatting (older) and a few groups of teens/younger people sitting around at the bar tables in silence on their phones. I don't know if banning phones/pads will change or help anything, but I definitely had an old folk's moment seeing that.

I visited a few times with my kids a few years ago but in London it was severely outclassed, in my opinion. Almost any American diner would be preferable. One thing they did pay attention to was a vaguely Happy Days atmosphere. It didn't make up for the mediocre food. My kids, both adults, loved it.

It's gone now. They've changed all the menu and changed the music to the standard chart-topper fare. So even the novelty is dead.

I've been to a few clubs that ban mobile/pic taking with phones (Output in Brooklyn being the most well known... RIP), and they were some of the best clubbing experiences since the late 90s for me.
