The comically bad story, the lower quality of some of the chapters, escort missions, and awful QTEs count as flaws.

Bloodborne is far from flawless. Consumable items not automatically restocking, the blood gem system favoring pure physical damage stacking over more unique weapon traits, and the difficulty (tiers I-III are generally too easy, while certain tier IV-V dungeons are unfairly difficult) and repetitive design of the Chalice Dungeons are all issues with the game.

Many would argue also that the blood vial system are a flaw in contrast to replenishing Estus Flasks, but I'm ambivalent on that one.

The vial system makes the beginning much easier for newcomers compared to the flask system, as you can have the maximum amount right from the start. I had some issues in DS3 with reaching the next shortcut/bonfire before depleting the supply of handful flasks.

Chalice dungeons were meant to be played while proceeding in the main game. Even the early ones posed a challenge, if you started them when you got access to the first after beating BSB. The later ones weren't unfairly difficult, more a test of patience, even the notorious Defiled one. Personally, I enjoyed their roguelikeness.

To my knowledge, you can make a pretty OP Bloodtinge and Arcade builds with gems. The latter is the only trait that improves beyond level 50.

Certain consumables not being restocked automatically, and not being able to transport without visiting Hunter's Dream were certainly minor flaws though.

Pac-Man CE DX.
It's easily the best version of what is effectively the quintessential arcade game.

Come on now, even if we ignore the technical issues it's not even the best PS4 game. What about God of War? The Witness is highly underrated as well, the stressful music challenge att the end is the only thing holding it back for me. And then we have all other classics on consoles and computers throughout the history of gaming.
This thread should be about Super Metroid, that's a game that is still at many peoples best game of all time list after 25 years.

All the o
Yes

Breath of the Wild
Xenoblade Chroniclea
Super Mario 3D World
The Last of Us
God of War (2018)
Hollow Knight
Etc...
Only Hollow Knight on that list is much better. BOTW and Xenoblade Shouldn't even be on it.

To answer Phantom Thief

Hollow Knight and Celeste are infinitely better from recent games that came out and if you want something older the best game in the world DOTA 2 absolutely annihilated it.

Despite it being my GOAT, traveling around is badly designed. In Dark Souls/Sekiro you can just teleport anywhere you like without going back to the hub. Also the Blood Vial system is not as good as just refilling Estus when resting.

Bloodborne is great, but it renders in 720p and less then 30fps in many cases, thats not ideal or perfect.

Given that BB runs like absolute ass, combined with framepacing issues and slowdowns.

Yes, plenty.

Still not even sure how the game exsits tbh......an exclusive From/Sony collaboration in this day and age still seems unbelievable. Then again they went and got the worlds biggest super hero as an exclusive too.

The samey color palette and overgreebling hurts the first half or so of the game, dampening the sense of progression and making it a little easier than it should be to get lost.

People mistakenly equal Bloodborne's thematic "perfection" with its overall game quality. The total presentation of its victorian Lovecraft setting is pulled off almost flawlessly but otherwise

- overall level design but especially almost all boss battles start going downhill beginning with Rom
- boss battles have severe camera problems just like in any other Souls game
- blood vial system is simply terrible game design
- transportation and accessing the RPG elements is incredibly cumbersome and needlessly time-consuming
- aforementioned RPG elements are tacked-on and lack any impact be it in your decision making or playstyle
- framerate issues in areas where a consistent framerate is sorely needed

It's far from perfect in every other respect and there are also far more games closer to perfection than Bloodborne - but more importantly there is no perfect game.

The PVP is garbage and blood vials suck. Also weapon variety and accessibility are terrible in the base game.

I think this is more of a Bloodborne respect/shill thread than an actual request for games as good as Bloodborne. None of the SoulsBorne games tapped my top 30 favorite games, honestly, but I respect its design and I think it's fair to just let people gush over it here if they like it.
Probably.

Btw, I love BB and think it's a masterpiece 10/10 game. I just feel like a thread like this can be made for plenty of games. A BB appreciation thread would be cool.

Stephen's Sausage Roll is perfect for what it is. Puzzle design that is out of this world. Not a single moment of repetition. Getting your mind blown by every new world. Hard, but extremely satisfying. It get's right to the meat (the sausage), and cuts out all unnecessary crap like long tutorial or repeating parts that make sure that you got it. There's nothing quite like it, sadly.

0.0001% of the people in this thread will get this reference, but I agree 100%.

I love Bloodborne, I think it is one of the greatest games ever made, but I got into a discussion about it today with Zassimick and PhazonBlazer and it was remarkable how few flaws I could actually think of with it. In that, there actually aren't any?

"But the frame pacing and the technical performance", yes, those are flaws with the game's optimization, that's not what I am talking about here. In terms of design, actual mechanics and design, does Bloodborne actually have flaws? Because I feel like it's basically borderline perfect.

Now, I do like several other games more than it, that's because while they may actually have flaws, I find their highs to be far higher than Bloodborne's highs, and that's what makes them stand out. But I actually, legitimately cannot think of a criticism against Bloodborne. I do hate Yahar'Gul/Nightmare of Mensis/Nightmare Frontier, and feel like they are just bad level design (especially Yahar Gul), and maybe the Chalice Dungeons are superfluous, but other than that, there isn't anything. The combat is perfect, the level design is magnificent (especially in places like Cainhurst and Forbidden Forest), the art design is fantastic, the game's form of storytelling is basically the best application of my preferred form of interactive storytelling I have seen to date, the atmosphere is overbearing in the best possible way, the lore is mind bending... I really can't think of much to pick at. Even the things I dislike pale in comparison to its general magnificence. Bloodborne stands as a monument to game desiGn.
It's truly one of the best games ever made. And it's high time I start playing The Old Hunters, which I somehow managed to not play in spite of my deep and abiding affection for the base game over the last four years.
You think BB is "borderline perfect" but "hate Yahar'Gul/Nightmare of Mensis/Nightmare Frontier"? That's a contradiction.

To answer the question, I'd say Steam world Heist. Flawless design imo.

Dumb thread.

Whilst it's still my GOTG, you're asking people to prove you wrong and make them list their favorites.

Nah. Mergo's Wet Nurse, Gerhman, Amygdala, Moon Presence are all terrific. I'll give you One reborn and the Kosm dude.
blood vial system is simply terrible game design
I wouldn't call this "terrible game design" just not as good as gourds (forgot the name of em in Souls) I actually still really like blood vials the one thing is the need to farm for em that sucks. However on follow up play throughs, there was no need to farm at all. Had 200+ in storage no problem in NG+.
aforementioned RPG elements are tacked-on and lack any impact be it in your decision making or playstyle
This isn't exactly true as well, but only in the sense of what weapons/hunters tools you end up using. If you stock up on arcane points for example, you can use some of the more unique Hunter tools and really make Ludwigs moonlight blade sing.

But yeah I won't argue with you on the other points.

No game is perfect but bloodborne is the game that has given me the most enjoyment.

I will always treasure fighting the orphan of Kos 30 times in the old hunters dlc and the jubilation I felt when I finally beat him

The only game that completely achieves everything it aimed to do with no room for improvement. It is the perfect 2d platformer.

Bloodborne has outstanding atmosphere, soundtracks, the best lore out of all soulsbornekiro (/s) games, short amount of weapons but all of them are pretty unique and cool (unlike DS) but I can't overlook the fact that it is too short, if it wasn't for the dlc the game would have been a real bummer, a lot of uninteresting items (Sekiro suffers this too), the level system is a bit out of place here (I mean it's not like you can do different builds like DS, they could have made a more action hybrid), the chalice dungeons are very repetitive, boring in the long (even in the short for me) run with a lot of useless gems except the pure attack ones, but personally I've never felt the framerate/camera issue that much, I got used to it quite easily.

Only another From contender can dethrone this game, maybe Elden Ring? Maybe Bloodborne Kart? Who knows.

Edit: Oh and I found that the setting was a bit redundant. Everything was gothic "cities", no diversity at all, cool and all, but I prefeur walking from giant castles to frozen lands to molten places to POISON SWAMPS to dragon valleys in Dark Souls.

Perfect as in achieving what it sets out to do, then yes it's perfect. But then so are a lot of other games. Wii Sports is perfect. Tetris is perfect. Rocket League is perfect.
Beyond that though, it suffers from the accessibility issues most From games do. It's overly difficult and the lore mostly obtuse and hard to understand. It flows well when you're playing well, but it's not a very generous game if you struggle.

Bloodborne isn't anywhere near a perfect game. It is absolutely overrated here, especially here, and it's a game that will not stand the test of time.

bloodborne is one of my favorite games of all time

it's also nowhere near perfect

I could go on for days listing more perfect games than bloodborne even if most of them I like less

a perfect game would be perfect technically and gameplay wise and have no room to improve. Bloodborne is great, but Bloodborne at 4K 60 would be better in every way.

I just bought a PS4 and BB two weeks ago after listening to the hype for years and uh, y'all fuckin' tripping.

Every boss is a giant dog and its inferior to DkS3 in almost every regard. I feel like the Victorian setting is squandered on a dreary Lovecraftian snoozefest when it could be something more. I told some friends that I guess I was expecting Bram Stoker's Dracula: The Video Game or something. I guess that's on me.

I feel seriously misled by the hype. Ah well, at least I can play Resogun now.

Very few.

Bloodborne is one of those games that's so absurdly good, you start softly criticizing other excellent games for not being more like it.

Bloodborne is best and most addictive game I have played in a looooong time (perhaps the game I have had the most pleasure and interest ever). Everything afterwards was just not as good as Bloodborne.
I particularly enjoyed a lot playing Breath of the Wild, with its massive world, the geography of the land and the somewhat vague story, but it was nowhere as captivating as Bloodborne.
