PS5 at launch for me.

I missed out on the PS4 at launch and could not find one in stores for so long. So I missed out on a lot of PlayStation exclusives, not again. I hope...

I enjoyed my Xbox One it just wasn't that much content dropping consistently. I will pick one up when the studios start cranking out the exclusives at a steady rate.

I think PS5 is the clear winner ... but I'm NEVER buying a console first day so I picked neither.

I'll get PS5 in like ... a year or 1.5 from now.

PS5 Day 1.

Not because I don't have any interest in a Series X, but more because Microsoft is always way more aggressive with price cuts on their consoles than Sony and so just waiting even a year probably will make the Series X come down in price a good bit.

I have over 400 ps4 games (physical and digital combined) so I'm pretty much locked into PS5 unless something absolutely terrible we're to happen.

I owned an Xbox 360 but never pulled the trigger on the xbone. There's been a few exclusives that piqued my interest, but I ended up grabbing them on pc eventually.

Waiting on the Xbox event this month but it's looking likely that I'll get a PS5 first and play the Xbox exclusives on PC. Which is a change for me as I never usually game on PC and always get an Xbox first but I've recently purchased a decent PC and I'm looking forward to playing TLOU2 and other Sony exclusives on the PS5.

I didn't get either the PS4 or the Xbox One at launch.

I will be getting both PS5 and Series X at launch as they have backwards compatibility.

I can't wait to play Miles Morales at launch. That first Spider-Man game is so good, I platinum'd it and still put it on sometimes just to swing around.

I need to see the improvements Series X brings to backwards compatibility. The new HDR system and improved framerates and resolutions to older games is something I will spend a lot of time with. I might finally get the achievements i'm missing in Geometry Wars that I've been trying to get for 15 years. Halo Infinite should also help.

Surprised at how many people on an enthusiast forum are avoiding buying any at launch. Why?

A lot of people are unemployed. We're still lacking vital information - price, release date and launch titles. The level of excitement is not as high as it was after E3 2013. I'm sure there's dozens more reasons beyond those.

Remains to be seen depending on the next few showcases, but I'm not expecting any compelling launch software for my tastes.

Probably neither unless the BC features are too good to pass up.

That makes sense I guess. My hypothesis was that what people have been shown hasn't blown anyone away in terms of visuals yet.

PS5 for me at launch, and Xbox Series X or Lockheart down the line. For me, it boils down to the Playstation being officially supported in my region, my investment in the Playstation ecosystem (subbed to PS Plus for 2 more years, existing game library), and just the right amount of games at launch to convince me to buy (a Spider-man at launch really helps - but I'm sure Xbox will have their share of great software, the other factors just puts playstation over the top for me).

If Lockhart is considerably affordable then it's a maybe for me - as a game pass and BC machine (for the Xbox 360 gen).

I'll pick up the PS5 at launch, no question. I'm confident that first-party output will make it absolutely worth my time, and it looks like it may not have as slow a start as the PS3 and PS4. I'm still intrigued by what Microsoft has planned and am looking forward to the July event. If they can right the ship on first-party content and are investing in the kinds of titles that would appeal to me I may well pick up one of their systems a little later (and yes, I'd seriously consider Lockhart just to play a couple of must-have games - after all, I enjoy games on my Switch so it's not like I'm allergic to lower resolutions.)

I am still trying to decide. PS5 has better first party exclusives but I like everything else about the Xbox (controller, online service, etc).

Debating over getting a PS5 or getting nothing, since most of my gaming is PC anyways. I would love to go Xbox since I'm really liking Microsoft's direction lately, but sadly PlayStation exclusives are the only thing so far that interest me in the console landscape. Everything else is more attractive on the Xbox side of things, though I'm not sure I see the value yet unless I give up high end PC gaming in the future (which is a possibility since hardware is getting too damned expensive).

Getting PS5 at launch if I can snag one. Not super interested in XSX as of now, probably do what I did with the One and get that like 5-7 years later to catch up on the first party offerings.

Pandemic put people out of work and these consoles are likely going to be pricy. By the time they join next gen there will be more games and possible console revisions anyway. Not a bad way to go.

For me I'm just way too impatient. Also I'm fortunate to have been working this whole time so I can fit at least one of these in my budget easily.

I was certain I'd get both at launch - a blind decision before either showing. Now tho? Not sure.

Sony's event has settled, and I'm sold on the system, but launch doesn't feel remotely compelling. Kena is about the only launch game I'm aware of that interests me.

Microsoft is still TBD. Having never owned an XBox and really wanting to have access to GamePass, it might end up being my first choice.

There's no real way I'm getting an Xbox over a PS5 considering I have over 300 games in my PSN account and don't even own an XB1.

The question for me is less "which console?" and more "is it even worth investing in next gen at all?", since there's no real logic in buying an XSX but Sony doesn't seem super interested in selling their console to me either.

Not at all, the Xbox ecosystem doesnt speak to me at all, especially when the PC acts like a close substitute and while I understand how Gamepass helps people discover games Im pretty against it from a "future health of the industry" point of view

Sony and Nintendo meet my expectations pretty damn well, especially as someone that consumes Japanese games the most. I wish Sony wasn't so ... predictable but theres really no question for me between MS and Sony

I have such a huge and growing backlog on Steam/Index/PC and PS4 for that matter that I can pretty easily sit out this launch for PS5 and Xbox and feel ok about it.

I just built my PC with a 2080Ti last year so its fine for 1440p for me and I haven't seen any games for the launch of either PS5 or Xbox that would have me rushing out to get one at launch.

I'll probably do what I did this gen and stick with PC until the PS5 Pro or whatever comes out in a couple years and there are some bigger PS5 exclusives to look forward to. Most of the Xbox exclusives will likely come to PC so its really just a question of whether Sony can put out a console exclusive game that really has me interested to invest in a new machine- a God of War sequel would certainly get me interested.

PS5 for sure, but there's a good chance I'll get the XSX within its first two years. MS is making moves.

I'm going to do what I've done every gen since the mid-90s, go with Sony and Nintendo.

Between Sony and MS, it comes down to exclusives, and Sony makes more games that appeal to me then MS does.

I don't feel a big need to grab either one until a couple of RPGs are on the plate, though if I were to get a console this holiday season I would indeed have a degree of trouble choosing. Neither console has really won me over relative to its rival yet.

I've never bought a console at launch. I keep thinking there will be a reason to, but it's never happened. I mean I was 100% ready to get the Switch day 1 but for some reason Capcom dragged their heels on localizing Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, I actually cancelled my preorder after it was a no-show at E3 and didn't get one until the next year.

That said backwards compatibility might be the selling point for me this time, plus Gamepass - I've got no attachment to either company but I'm very much preferring Microsoft's strategy so far. However in the end I expect to balk at the Canadian price tag on these things.

My only struggle right now is if I should go for Xbox Series X or Lockhart. Other than that, I plan to get both the PS5 and new Xbox at launch.

Interesting that 60% of people (in the poll) have already made up their mind despite how little we really know about each console.

People who have iPhones or Android don't usually switch over to the other platform when it's upgrade time. They're not looking at what the other side's flagship is first. They're just weighing if the next upgrade is even worthwhile for them.

That ONLY 60% of the gaming enthusiasts on this website have made up their mind is kind of remarkable.

No, not this time. I rarely get consoles at launch (the original Xbox being the only exception so far). I could get XSX at launch this time if it hadn't been for the fact that I will be able to play Halo Infinite on my Xbox One X as well. So while I like Microsoft's approach it is also making it harder to justify a purchase of their new console early on. Sony making a clean cut between generations makes it easier to justify a purchase.

I'll get both eventually, probably PS5 first.

Can't afford both but the size of the PS5 is turning me off. I swore I'd never buy another console the same or larger size as my launch PS3. Might just wait since the launch games are usually lacklustre.

If Lockhart is also at launch, was significantly cheaper and has a disc drive, I'm in. I anticipate PS5 and XSX to be £600 so no thanks. But if Lockhart is £400 or less, that means I can upgrade my S, be able to play my old games, and play new games. I don't have a 4k TV so I'm happy to slum it on a Lockhart for a couple of years before the XSX drops in or an XSXX is announced.

But at launch? Neither otherwise, not in this economy lol

Edit: Oh, if there is no Lockhart or no disc drive, I'm buying a new 1X.

PS5 easily I would only get xbox for gamepass and you can get that on PC. I really nead to fix my gaming PC but I'm being cheap and only used it for playing Total War.

This was the first generation where I didn't own both an Xbox and PS console, since the original Xbox came out. Unless Microsoft shows me some games worth buying, I'm going only PS5.

Gamepass has made this easy. I went from thinking id be a PS5 buyer day one for six and a half years this gen then I got Gamepass. I will never go back to buying games again. The value and freedom to try stuff is just amazing. Combined with how damn well engineered the XSX looks to be, I'm doubtful of Sony's strategy on ultra fast custom SSD being the focus when normal NVME drives are already damn fast. I'll be XSX day one. Ridiculously easy decision. Wait a few years for the ps5 to get cheap and used and play their 1st party games. Everything else I'm playing will be gamepass.
