...But really this has been quite interesting so far, and I like the flow of a larger plot versus the more standard detective game fare of extremely separated incidents. VA work is absolutely fantastic, and the script localization is god-tier.
I do really like the voice acting. Date and Aiba in particular really nail all of their lines, and even trip over their words in all the right ways.

It's cool to see Greg Chun (I think he voices Date?) get such a big role. I've seen his name pop up repeatedly in FEH, but I've never seen his work in anything more substantial until now.

He was the main character in Judgment as well. Two games in the span of a few months where he plays a detective and investigates eye related crimes.

My favourite voice actor in the dub is mizukis. I think it sounds just the right kind of bratty for the character, pretty far away from the usual child character voices in games.

A kick like a warhead, a punch to the forehead, you're pinned to the floor, spread, I am queen of this braaaaawllllll and I'll show you aaaalllll

The English voice acting in general is really good tho, in terms of voices and direction.

After thinking for a while, I got the game and so far, I'm really enjoying it. Was scared that it would be too similar to games from KID like Ever17, 12Riven and Remember11. The Zero Escape games are and I'm glad AI isn't.
I'm still on Day 2 but how long is the game?

Just finished, overall it was a nice mystery, the psync section were annoying imo, sure there were fun things happening, but it wasn't fun to play! i would rathter have the old escape room

it always feel so cheap when you sacrifice a character in a nice way, just to revive them just after that... You can have an happy ending without that you know

also weird that the game turns back to english for the final song... was that a copyright issue?

Couldn't they just do a fundraiser for Iris' surgery considering she is a celebrity?

i think i had the mind swap thing figured out more or less half way through the game with both date and #89 mentioning they couldn't remember things and both Pewter and Boss being really vague about what happens after 6 minutes in the psync machine but the thing that cracked the plot point was them mentioning the egg thing

i played the game with the Japanese audio and it suddenly switched to the dub audio in the end and it honestly sounds like some abridged anime dub from youtube

make this pain go away

i wish he would kinda stop doing the it was you/me/them all along thing, i kinda predicted that date was probably the killer even before the game came out but technically he wasn't but at the same time he kinda was

Is there a walkthrough? The somniums suck ass. I'm late game where I have to

Make a pentagram by placing stones on pedestals

and the game fucks it up so badly. I'm probably putting it down for a while.

errr off the top of my head you move the further back red block(on a pedestal) to the even further back empty pedestal on that same side, and the blue side blue block goes on the pedestal that lines up with the pedestal with the red block across from it.

argghhhggh the (Switch version) game just froze on a loading screen about a 20-30 min into the (I think) final ending. It was loading for over ten minutes and I just reset. Even doing the fast forward function will take forever, and who knows if it will freeze at the same screen again. Bugs ruin sweet endings.

Edit: Forget those dramatics, the autosave saved my bacon. I'm just a little impatient with the game's hoops after all the shitty Somniums.

I'm sorry for asking this since it has been asked thousands of times no doubt: is it imperative that I watch the videos/YouTube? Or can I just go straight away into the game?

Thank you. Although, what is it exactly for if you don't mind me asking?
Just Uchikoshi doing Uchikoshi things. There are several hints of game mechanics/plot spread throughout them but most would be hardly noticed with no knowledge of the game. ARG campaigns are usually there to generate interest/hype. I'd say they're worth a watch imo.

Hopefully it's a performance patch. There are these oddly long pauses between picking a dialogue choice and seeing the lines come up. It's nothing too bad, but it would be nice if the pauses weren't there.

Finished it Monday night. Really enjoyed it.
I liked that this was a more self-contained story without focusing too much outside the game's cast instead of a huge plot concerning saving the world. Just a murder mystery plot with a very likeable cast, each with their own family issues.

Ota's Ending was probably my favorite due to how close to home it hit with me. Mizuki and Resolution are probably tied for second, followed closely by Annihilation. Iris End was the weakest but still okay.

The whole cast resonated with me in one way or another, but Aiba is easily the best character. Mizuki was amazing too, and Ota really grew on me as the game went on, despite being portrayed as a jerk early.

The Somnium sequences were hit or miss for me. The emotional ones (Mayumi, Mizuki psyncing Date) and the Shovelforge ones work because they feel like they flow better, while most of the other ones feel too much like trail and error.

I'm fine with pervy humor, and I liked it when Date made some off-hand comments, but hired goons being distracted by porno mags and underwear? Seriously? There's so much you can push a running gag before it gets old.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Could have used better puzzle sequences but the story and characters were top notch. Great work once again, Uchikoshi.

The ending made me feel bad for Date...

Imagine going through everything he did, finally waking up and realizing everything, and learning you now have to raise the two most obnoxious members of the cast, and you're stuck dating some milquetoast woman just because the old you was dating her 6 years ago, even though the new you is a hardcore pervert. The "good" ending is a decent representation of that whole "hell is other people" thing.

How's the music? I loved the soundtracks from the Zero Escape games and I wondering how this compares.

Different composer this time but it's really good. Really soothing electronic music and nice atmospheric ambient music. So far I've not come across anything as dark sounding as Shinji Hosoe's Zero Escape series music (like the puzzle room music in Zero Escape series is god tier) but it's still a really good OST so far.

Just got my physical PS4 copy yesterday. UI only took a few hours to really leave an impression on my Plasma. Probably shoulda gone Switch instead so I could more easily go portable.

I'll be playing the rest on my Vita via Remote Play so I don't fuck up my TV for good, but I like what I've seen so far. The method of investigation is really interesting and lends itself well to branching paths and the English cast is superb.

Iris is an adult, Mizuki is great, and I got the distinct impression from the ending that Date and Hitomi probably aren't getting back together even if Iris wants them to.

re: Iris. She'll be Date's responsibility in the sequel when it's revealed there was a serial killer's personality injected into every nanomachine used during her tumor treatment, and they're starting to wake up.

Man seeing people hate on Invincible Rainbow Arrow makes me sad. I think Jackie Lastra's performance was charming, and that
bollywood ending
is one of the greatest video game moments of all time.

Couldn't they just do a fundraiser for Iris' surgery considering she is a celebrity?

I wouldn't really call her a "celebrity" per se. She has a following, but she's stated a few times that she's still small time, has, has a hard time getting anything beyond background gigs on TV, and primarily thrives on the internet. The operation is also super expensive, I don't think she'd realistically be able to get the money she needs through a fundraiser alone.

That's good to hear. And yeah I dug the intense industrial sound of a lot of the puzzle room themes in the ZE series, but a more laid-back and soothing soundtrack is always nice too.

Man, some of you have really zoomed through this game. I just finished Mizuki's route and am definitely left with way more questions than answers, in a good way.
More importantly
I definitely didn't sniffle a little when it was revealed that Date is secretly best dad

For those of you that've finished the game and played the Zero Escape trilogy, I'm curious how you would rate the following out of 10:

Did this, including the other Uchi games I have played (I haven't finished Punchline, but I liked the anime!). Tried to be spoiler-free, unless impressions of twists are a spoiler to you. Added gameplay where it mattered to me.

Disclaimer: I have bad taste.

999
Story: 9/10
Characters: 7/10
Plot Twists: 10/10
Gameplay: 6/10
Overall: 9/10 (Not an average)

Amazing story, punchy and well-written with just a few clunky parts. Characters feel a touch underdeveloped and almost caricaturistic at times (everyone other than Junpei, Akane and Clover can be boiled down to one or two traits, most of them snarky or smarmy, and that feels kinda samey). On the DS version, having to replay the puzzle rooms over and over was infuriating at the time, but I'm still bitter over the last puzzle change in the remaster.

VLR
Story: 8/10
Characters: 9/10
Plot Twists: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall: 10/10

I genuinely like the characters way more in this game and I acknowledge that this is probably a bad opinion. Maybe because most of them weren't snarky or outwardly hostile to start, so when they did bad things, their reasons were compelling. Very first Uchikoshi game where I didn't see at least a few of the twists coming. Completely blew my mind. However, I continue to hear the pinging hall movement sound in my nightmares.

ZTD
Story: 7/10
Characters: 8/10
Plot Twists: 7/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall: 8/10

I liked ZTD quite a bit until the ending. If they had fleshed out the reveal just a BIT more, even with just some history about [REDACTED], as well as not invalidated the secret ending of VLR, I would have been perfectly satisfied. Diana inflates the character average here, and I'm one of those weirdos that actually likes Mira and Eric. In fact, I love all of the teams, in spite of making my girl Akane hold the idiot ball a few times :(.

AI
Story: 8/10
Characters: 6.5/10
Plot Twists: Probably like a 4/10 because I guessed all of them and didn't care for them but twists don't matter so much to me.
Gameplay: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Perfectly satisfying game. No major complaints, but no standout loves either. Characters were hit-or-miss for me.

Yes, I liked ZTD more than AI. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Remember11:
Story: 10/10
Characters: 10/10
Plot Twists: 5/10 (Doesn't have a true ending due to budget reasons, just straight up ends)
Overall: 9.5/10

Remember11 would be a perfect game... if it just had an ending.

Ever17
Story: 5/10
Characters: 10/10
Plot Twists: 10/10
Overall: 7/10

There are a few things in Ever17's plot that I find extremely offputting, so it's easier to just recommend 999 to people instead. Sora's route is nearly the worst thing I've ever played in a visual novel, which is sad, because I do like her a lot. In fact, all of the characters are wonderful. It's been a LONG time since I played this game, but I remember all of them very clearly, and am still attached to them.

Never7
Story: 5/10
Characters 4/10
Plot Twists: 6/10
Overall: 5/10

I don't remember much about this game other than I shrugged after I was done and said "yeah, that wasn't bad." As one of his very first projects, it's okay, I guess. I remember the characters driving me crazy once or twice.

Does anyone figure we might get a spoiler thread for this game? It would be nice to have open conversations about it.

I have finished the game.
Its very good game , great twists in it.
Characters were nice and i like Uchikoshi changes of the game style , like its only murder mystery not saving the world thing and the way the routes open by remembering.
the Bollywood ending style song is nice.

porno mag sequences were cringe at best and they could used other means for better reaction like his brain dysfunction.

The Somnium sequences were the weakest thing in the game, a lot of them i just wanted to finish them to continue.

Overall the game is very good and better than ZTD but the puzzles hold it back

Finished the game just now. Took me just under 30 hours and I loved almost every minute of it, even the Somnium parts which I thought got progressively better and more puzzle-like the further into the story you get. The final scene left me with a giant smile.

There's a lot to wrap your head around and I can't wait to finally catch up on the spoilers in this thread after getting some sleep, but 🤯 seems like a good way to summarize it right now. Uchikoshi is a master at what he does and I can't begin to image how difficult it must be to write a branching story this complex where everything comes together neatly in the end and each separate branch is still interesting, thrilling, touching and humorous in its own right.

ZTD was an outlier, Uchi is back with a fantastic original story, can't wait for his next game.

he does say that he's hard when he gets aiba to hug hitomi in one of the psyncs near the end so maybe he doesn't mind being with her

but with all that said
Atami ending is best ending
