Netflix sucks for it, try Prime/TBS.I'm shocked that there aren't more classic J dramas on Japanese netflix. So annoying.

A sort of reverse (but not really) romcom carried by a strong pair of lead. Eita as the dumb military dude is goddamn hilarious. He nails it.Mizuguchi Saki is an outstanding fashion magazine editor who grew up in a modern and liberal family. She meets Obara Koichi who is the ace of the Air Rescue Wing of the Air Self Defense Force. He grew up in a strict military family and is the classic straight-laced guy. Although Saki and Koichi are polar opposites, the two of them quickly get married without dating, believing that they would start a happy life as newlyweds after a lavish wedding ceremony. However, as they begin living together in the same house, their differences in lifestyles and values result in differences in opinions and huge fights. Saki and Koichi soon decide to get a divorce. Mashiba Kurumi works as a publicist for "el Arco Iris", an interior design company that is becoming popular with young people on social media. She's a fashionista who cares a lot about her appearance and about what others think. She works hard to gain the admiration of her coworkers and boss, Hayama Shogo. Kurumi is so busy with work that she forgets to renew her lease on her apartment. Her friend Koko helps her find a new place... but it's a share house with 3 strangers! There's Fujino Shun, a minimalist chef who just wants to live a simple life. Then there's Terai Haruto, Shun's cousin who works as an online counselor to help people with their problems. Finally, there's Hase Ayaka, an aspiring artist who makes contemporary art while working part-time as a delivery driver at a high-end supermarket. And so these people of different ages, occupations, and values come together under one roof. Though their personalities clash, Kurumi falls in love, deepens her friendships, and learns to take off her "armor" and live as herself.
I loved it. The overacting was clearly intentional for comedic purposes, so I wasn't bothered by it at all.I enjoyed Uchi no Musume, there's quite a but of overacting especially coming from the mom, yeah. But it's a cute little drama about mom and daughter relationship.
Yeah, for comedic dramas overacting is necessary and part of the charm.I loved it. The overacting was clearly intentional for comedic purposes, so I wasn't bothered by it at all.
Granted, I'll watch anything with Minami Hamabe in it at this point, she's just too good.
Both shows are pretty low key (for the lack of a better word) when it comes to the acting. I feel like they have a healthy amount of dry humor/deadpan vibes without being obnoxious.Kurita, do Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto or Conte ga Hajimaru have that same sort of over-emphatic acting? I got the impression the latter at least would be more low key and I kind of assumed with Sakamoto-san writing Omameda that it wouldn't have much of that as his dramas usually don't.
Thanks Kurita. I'm a fan of Sakamoto-san's work and I think Conte is from the Sekai Ichi Muzukashii Koi writer so I expect I will really enjoy both. Both shows are pretty low key (for the lack of a better word) when it comes to the acting. Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto is definitely not your standard romcom with all that entails in terms of direction, plot, dialogues, etc... (I do like these shows tbh haha)
Highly recommend them.
The best show of the year is hands down Omameda Towako, it's just a wonderful mature romcom. What has everyone been watching lately? I haven't watched anything that was released this year so looking for recs! Romance, comedy, romcoms, anything really.
Romance & comedy (or the combination of both) is all I watch, but sometimes I just forget the names lol. Here's from my list:What has everyone been watching lately? I haven't watched anything that was released this year so looking for recs! Romance, comedy, romcoms, anything really.
I wish this thread wasn't dead so I could also get recs. I don't follow J dramas at all.I usually pop in here to ask, what have you guys been watching so far in 2022? Any upcoming dramas you guys have your eyes on?
How's it compare to the manga? This year I only watched a few episodes of Mystery to Iu Nakare (ミステリーと言う勿れ) with Suda Masaki, based on the manga of the same name.
I need to catch up (well, it's already over), it's quite entertaining.
Haven't read it so I can't comment on that.
Definitely one of my favorite shows of 2021, really enjoyed it.
I do like that.
Haven't watched any new drama so far, but I'm looking forward to Hatsukoi no Akuma (初恋の悪魔), which is sold as a witty mystery-comedy written by Sakamoto Yuji, the screenwriter behind Omameda Towako, Quartet, Mother… So it should be some good stuff.
I need to watch it asap, I'm ready to cryMan, Silent just has me in tears at least once every episode, it really does a number on the old heartstrings lol.

Haven't got the chance to actually haha! I'll try to finally watch it this year.Given a particular cast member here, I assume you've seen this Kurita

Shocking.Haven't got the chance to actually haha! I'll try to finally watch it this year.
But it was apparently a really solid remake.
Are there any recommendations for good streaming services for Japanese dramas? My partner really wants me to watch Long Vacation and other stuff she watched growing up
