This is a 10/10 for me so far. Favorite game of the year by a landslide. The combat just feels so good.

Only complaint is that it's a bit easy. Otherwise, near flawless.

So played since release, 10 hours in now 53 precent done says the tracker

It's not a bad game me thinks. Coming from Rebirth they are different and I need to view them different. Side stuff is really bar/bad. Idek if I should bother. Everyone you search for seems to be always dead anyway. The characters and story are super bad tho, so lifeless.

It's not a bad game, for a Souls game it's pretty enjoyable and Souls like games for me tend to not have good character writing or side missions. The combat is nice, altho the game is super easy so far.

Credits for the level of polish. It's really not a bad game, it's a '7' game for me like a few games past 2 years. Problem is 7 games aren't really cutting it anymore. This is one of the better 7 games tho

Like the world style, the anime like characters (the designs itself are.. yeah..) together with this world really grabs me in a positive way, and love the tunes in between stuff

If it finds some Soul for part 2, it can easily become a favorite for me

This game is so... so damn good. The music is also putting in a lot of work. It is endless vibe.

Just saw a Stellar Blade video ad in the NYC subway. This was the last game I expected to see an ad in a mainstream location. 🤯

I just reached the open wasteland and I'm very fatigued by the drab dialog, characters and gameplay so far. I don't know how much more I can take. I'm doing fetch quests now in the desert.

I'm not going to pass final judgement until I've finished the game but I'm surprised to see such dislike for the story. Not because it's some incredible yarn but it's good enough and serves it's purpose. I've never needed action games like this to have hugely involved stories but I'm far more invested in this so far than I ever have been in any of the DMC, GoW, Doom, Ninja Gaiden or even Bayonetta games. Though at least had they had a lot of charm. I feel like the game us being held to a standard that nothing else in the genre is. It's 90s anime nonsense and that's okay.
Most action game's stories are just whatever but a lot of them have great and charming likable characters. SB doesn't seem to have any of those.

Really really loving the game! But i had to mute the music because I can't stand when games have a permanent sountrack on. Try without it, so much more immersive to actually hear the sounds of the world.

Loving the gameplay, the exploration, top notch - will chase platinum.

In having a decent time with the game so far, but it's honestly distracting just how bland Eve and Adam are.

Eve being attractive is her only distinguishing characteristic, and I legit wish Adam's drone would just leave me alone.

absolutely astonishing how good and polished some parts of this are, along with how severely jank some other parts are

like the parry "feel" and timing and enemy reaction (and enemy hit reactions in general) are absolutely stellar (heh)

but then like

the sweet spot for hitting interactibles with R2 is stupidly tiny. eve's turning circle and small/area responsiveness is also really jank so you overshoot a body, miss the r2 prompt, try and quickly circle around and then you feel like you're a fucking tax driver doing a three point turn or someting it is utterly bizarre

not to mention the combat which, yeah, you can tune in and get used to it, but it is objectively just an extremely weird mix of sensibilities that for lack of any better terms, just comes off feeling extremely janky and loose and unresponsive.

very surprised there wasn't more coverage of that in reviews etc. maybe everyone is playing it like a souls game, slow and methodical and it just isnt appearing because of that who knows

anyway

extremely weird game.

please give me a dmc style 1.2x turbo mode and far tighter maneuverability (even dark souls characters handle tighter than this) and we'll call this sucker very good

OH OH

and the level design does not in any way obey the rules of "i'll find a secret thing if i go around here". i have lost track of how many times i have been certain i was going to find a little shiny secret at the end of a slightly hidden corridor/ledge, only for there to be nothing there.

then they're just out there in the open????

so strange dude

Just now made it to Xion. Wasn't expecting the beginning to take that long but I'm cool with that. Switched out to the red suit with some glasses.

Great game, not into so-called "blockbusters" these days so this is perfect. Combat combat combat. The combat technique combine with the awesome presentation is so entertaining

Very satisfying for the most part.

Have to keep reminding myself to stop playing it like Sekiro. Stop playing it like Nier. Stop playing it like Bayo. It's got a unique identity and that's pretty cool.

And this is coming from someone who wasn't impressed with the demo.

lmao a big plot reveal just dropped and I had called it before the game even came out

The Naytibas were humans all along! yeah fucking duh. I think this was too obvious to be a real plot twist but I'll tag it anyway.

this is also cribbed entirely from Nier Replicant. Like, almost word for word.

I feel i'm in the minorty cause i'm digging the world/lore/ story so far. Granted i'm only at my first steps in Xion, but i'm reading and taking in everything at leisure so far.

Oh, and "blink" is one of the coolest techniques I've ever seen in a game. So satisfying.
Agreed. It feels and looks so satisfying. Repost from a few pages back but triggered it mid combo when Eve was horizontal in the air and just 😚👌

The visual flair for combat in this game is among the best I've seen.

yeah this combat rips. i like how the normal attacks feel weighty (a la Dark Souls) while the abilities are zany and freeform (more character action game like)

tbh this is the first game to really nail the merging of the two combat philosophies

This game is pretty good but not much more than that I think. Everything outside of combat is kinda flat and there honestly isn't a ton of combat in this lol

This is basically told to you the first time you go to Altess Levoire. It's indirect but it's about as subtle as a tonne of bricks.

There's a line that is something like "The humans went into hiding and then out of nowhere, of unknown origins, the Naytiba appeared!"

That and Naytiba sound very similar to Natives it's pretty hard not to put two and two together reaaaally early on lol.

Ok def eating crow as I've been having a blast with the game. Heavily disliked the demo, but with all the good word of mouth and reviews, decided to give it a shot and picked it up after work. Very happy I did cause damn it's a lot of fun when you get into the groove with it.

The sequal can definitely use more melee weapons variety to expand the combat even more. 5hrs in I think the blade is the only thing available unless it surprises me. The game kind of have the phantom dust vibe

Anyone playing this on easy? I'm waiting for my copy to come from Gamefly, and I just wasn't clicking with the combat during the demo on normal mode. But if easy is a little too easy, then I'm considering playing on normal.

Yeah, i call it pretty good as well, but honestly last year's South Korean AAA Lies of P was more interesting, despite sitting with same scores on MC and OC.

I'd say go for normal mode.
Overall, the game seems relatively easy in normal mode, in my opinion. This is likely because you can upgrade a significant number of skills within the first few hours

Very well articulated!

Also appreciate how it has a difficulty selector.

and dodge + parry upgrades.

Honestly normal mode is still quite easy. I have only died a couple of times in my many hours of play. Those times I did die is because I got greedy like in a Souls game. A lot of the skills you unlock in the first few hours help mitigate timing of the parry and other defensive mechanics.

stellar blade 2 is going to be some crazy stuff
Yeah, I would love to see the team take a second crack at it. There is a lot to love here, but also some roughness. For a first console game from a country not usually known for making console games, it is a solid first effort. That being said, there are absolutely areas I want to see big improvements in a hypothetical sequel.

the "hacking, but the order is randomized" minigame is genuinely satanic

maybe my tv sucks or I'm sitting too far away but would it have killed them to make the active one maybe a bit brighter

I haven't seen this get brought up so I wanted to mention this, because it deserves credit.

The hint prompt…

Thank you. Thank you Shrift Up. Why have other devs not caught on that many of us don't want the character to talk out loud after 15 seconds on how to solve the puzzle. Let us solve it, and if we're stumped, give us the option to prompt the solution or hint.

I finished the first visit to Xion and reached the desert. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Fun combat and lovely visual design all over. The mix of combat and exploring is just my jam.

I think they made a lovely combat system in this game. It is really satisfying and it looks flashy. The Naytiba are so fun in their grotesqueness, probably my favorite batch of video game enemies in recent memory.

The hint system deserves a huge shoutout. They're also vague enough to still give you some sense of accomplishment.

The game isn't perfect, and certain parts are a little janky, but I'm impressed how a lot of systems feel like the devs are responding to the mistakes that other recent AAA games have made

This is why the story actively hurts it for me. I'm trying to care but the characters are so dull and the general writing is so uninteresting. If the story is bad in a good action game I don't really mind as long as I can ignore it but here you're kinda spoonfed the story along with slow walk sections.

Eh, to me this feels pretty close to the Sony blockbuster formula, just a little jankier and less budget. You can tell they were heavily influenced by Playstation titles, especially God of War.

Not just that, but also glad at being able to disable it entirely. It's all I want with things like that.

I am extra shocked as Sony published games are often obnoxious with stuff like that. They are usually riddled with character in love with the sound of their own voice who never shut up and try and talk you through even the simplest of problems. Uncharted and GoW were particular. Even when you are in the middle of doing it they still feel the need to chip in. Even if you are half way through solving it. Sometimes it makes my long for the days before voice acting.

I'm liking what I have played so far at least gameplay wise(mostly), but every time pretty much any female character is on screen I just keep questioning if the devs have seen an actual woman before. I guess i'm supposed to find them sexy or something but they just look like clowns in whatever the fuck they're wearing, it's hard to take anything seriously. Don't even get me started on the boob jiggle, at least let me turn that shit off, ffs.

The platforming is absolutely horrendous too(maybe it gets better with double jump? doubt). Who the fuck thought that was a good idea? Climbing up that solar tower made me want to throw my controller through my window.

Hint prompt deserves praise. It was good to see modern AAA game not straight up telling me what to do constantly. In Sony studios games is so annoying.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the alt hairstyles all look stupid?

It just bothers me you can't (at least I haven't found a way to) remove her ponytail.
