I know the popular answer is to make fun of Netflix canceling a show, but honestly, do these fuckers renew anything outside of like 2-3 main shows past a first season anymore?

Really good show and still worth watching even as a one season show (like archive 81)

It was a lot of fun

I've never even heard of this show, and I follow Netflix pretty closely. Sounds interesting as well. Netflix really needs to work on their marketing.

UPD: Half of this is a reality or documentary show, though.

I was interested in watching it but haven't yet.

Netflix puts out so much stuff that things I'd give a chance to get pushed off my radar within a week and replaced with 7 Korean shows, 9 Spanish language shows, 3 dating shows, a Bridgerton short, Beef (which I've already seen, thanks), two aggressively unfunny animated shows, and a comedy special... none of which I'll watch.

Netflix seems to want to show me all of the things I could be watching rather than getting me to watch the things I would watch. Someone will watch those things and I'm sure many of them are just fine or even great. But I'm not interested and they're very unlike the things I do watch, finish, and rate favorably.

Netflix simply can't afford to market everything they release properly. There's just far too much shit they pump out.
I definitely get that, but I watch enough shows like this that it's weird I didn't even see it recommended to me on the front page anywhere.

Did this season at least end in a satisfying way, or was it a cliffhanger-y type ending that was expecting to get another season?

It ended on a solid note, there were at least 2 big mysteries though

I don't think Netflix' algorithm recommends shows that aren't getting great viewership.

I have a feeling its too big too fail, the manga and anime have a huge fandom and there will be plenty ppl watching or hate-watching it.
Supposedly the creator of the series is holding off on releasing it until he's satisfied, can't really ask for more than that

As long as Netflix business model requires to 1) binge watch as soon as possible to avoid paying residuals to creatives and 2) cancel shows before a season 2 or 3 to avoid giving rises and promotions to their creatives, this will continue to happen.

It looks like they are leaning metrics to make these decisions. At least they keep funding new shows. So there is always hope that one of those will hit it big.

I just hope Netflix forgets Mr. Midnight: Beware the Monsters exists and somehow let them keep doing eps.

The main arc of the season was wrapped up but there are cliffhangers and certain questions still remaining for what I assume would have been a larger story.

Anyone read the books? Are they good?

They should have pushed Joe Cornish more I didn't know he was involved in this. You can see his finger prints all over this. I'll give this a watch.

I also wonder what the budget was. Filming in the UK can't have been that cheap

They cancel based on low streaming numbers, simple as that. I still get amused when people take these cancellations so personally

That's why I don't get that excited when a new show airs there. It makes it suck that much more when it gets axed after a season which happens a lot at Netflix.

Thankfully, recently, Sandman did get renewed but I was afraid that was getting the axe.

Me, too. Waiting for a show to get a renewal notice before starting? I totally get that, I do the same. It's not like these renewal notices take forever, either - it's the 'pro' side of the 'con' of if shows don't perform immediately, they tend to get killed.

I often think people just forget how many shows were summarily cancelled after one season, hell, half a season, on regular network television. People's favourite new shows were killed off all the time.

I had literally no idea this show existed. Netflix is just horrendous about showing you shows you *actually* want to see. Nevermind the awful way it pushes for early viewership so much.

Sucks, I really like the show. It's funny that in the announcement thread here people were already saying it would be canceled after one season, aaagh.

For a YA show I thought it was really good.
I also thought it had been quite successful for Netflix... sigh
