The fact that they are even able to pay above 2m this fast is nuts. They were really making a bank from Patreon.

Didn't expect them to fold this fast though, guess it was a clear cut case.

You can't make this kind of money while low-key promoting piracy and expecting the platform holder to look the other way, they flew too close to the sun.

That was fast. And less than I expected. Seems more like a "warning shot" from Nintendo.

Edit: Ah, I spoke too soon. Nintendo wasn't interested in the money. It just wanted Yuzu shut down entirely.

I asked it in the other thread, but if they agreed to a permanent injunction does means that Yuzu is dead right?

From Nintendo's perspective that seems like almost nothing. Certainly not enough to cover for the alleged lost sales.

Is the money the only item covered in the Settlement?

I find it surprising that Nintendo would shake hands on something that didn't also include changed behaviors.

Why did they settle on such a low sum? Seems like a win for Yuzu.
2m is considered a low sum ? We are talking about developers of an emulators, not some big publisher lol.

Maybe I've really missed how loaded these emulation providers are supposed to be. How much money do they make via patreon every month ?

It's low because they would pay much more in lawyers/fees if this extended for months/years

I would never have thought they'd have $2m+ just like that ready to pay up. That's crazy, they must've been making absolute bank.

The permanent injunction isn't filed, is it? What is in that document? An agreement to stop development / distribution of the software?

Yuzu will raise that money from their community in less than a week if they have to.
Nintendo were claiming millions of lost sales of a $70 game, so it seems very low to me.

How is paying a company 2.4m a win?

Because it isn't paying them 20m.

Someone mentioned their patreon hit six figures around TotK launch.

We'll have to see what else the agreed to. Obviously it's not just about money, they'll need to stop whatever Nintendo thinks is damaging them.

WTF. Did not expect a resolution this quickly and for such a low amount. Any restrictions on Yuzu as part of the settlement?

Shouldn't they owe Nintendo $70M for the lost sales of those 1M TotK downloads? /s

Well, in this case they make $30k a month on patreon. Adds up quickly.

This seems like a weird one - could this have been an establishing shot that Nintendo can point to in the future when they try to act against emulation? Hopefully this doesn't create a precedent against the emulation scene as a whole - if it's just a warning shot and people get a bit smarter by not making these games available before the official release it's not that bad.

Also crazy they had this much money to begin with - seems like there's good money in the emulation business!

As much as I'd like to have seen a judgment against Nintendo and their legal bullying tactics, something like that is far from guaranteed - so this is probably the best outcome.

Nintendo were claiming millions of lost sales of a $70 game, so it seems very low to me.
Because it was bullshit. They were just trying to pull a repeat of the Bleem situation (killing the company with legal fees even if they won).
