We have seen in this generation several female characters that stand out without necessarily being protagonists or that you can control.
Following this. Which female characters stand out above the rest?

My vote goes to:

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower

The most badass female character in videogame history.

Aloy from Horizon had a really cool look and was super fun to play as, but Horizon's plot and character development was so stilted that I think she can be improved in the next game.

I haven't played too many games with a female protag this gen.

I really enjoyed my playthrough of Mass Effect Andromeda with a female Ryder so I'll go with this.

2B in Nier Automata was awesome.

I also liked Max from Life is Strange.

Does Kat count? What generation is the Vita in anyway?
If not, then id go with 2B or Aloy.

Probably Mae and Bea from Night in the Woods. Like just about every character in that game, they're smartly written and have poignant moments along with hilarious moments.

Billie Lurk from Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. She appeared in Dishonored though which is a seventh-gen game, dunno if this counts.

Madeline from Celeste, Mae from Night in the Woods, and Undyne from Undertale are up there too.

Kassandra, followed by Aloy and Kat. Lady Maria is cool as fuck, but obviously as a character it's not as fleshed as the first two.

Aloy, though 2B is great too.

Also really liked Shani from Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone.

Since 2B and Kat have been mentioned, I'll throw in my vote for Madeline.

Xenoblade 2 does not handle some of its female characters very well unfortunately. That's mostly due to the inconsistent character designs from multiple artists.

Which is a shame, since Morag, Nia and Lora are fantastic characters with great designs but they get overshadowed by the fan service. Morag especially is a real badass. My favorite character to play as in a jrpg in recent memory. She was one of the first spirits I got in Smash and I was ecstatic to see her in there.

Already beaten several times over by everyone who chose Max and Chloe. Between the two I think I'd have to go with Max though.

Amanda Ripley from Alien Isolation and Julie Kidman from The Evil Within were both pretty good characters.

It actually makes me smile at how many choices there are.

2B & Lady Maria are fucking dope.
