I own all of the current gen consoles, including X and Pro variants. Unfortunately, that's the only way to go unless you want to miss out on something. As for launch, yes- I did not "leave" based on what was announced. If I had to choose between the systems, the Xbox would win hands down. I just spend more time on it from a gaming and media perspective.

For me it was more about Sony not borking the PS4. I loved my PS1 and PS2, but I went 360 last gen after the shit show that was the PS3. I got a PS4 this gen because it was the first console to have enough exclusives to interest me. I'd grab an Xbone if I had enough time for a 5th gaming device (already struggling with PC, PS4, Switch, 3DS).

Edit: 360 and PS4 are also what most of my friends bought so that was also a huge factor.

No, I doesn't have any games I want that I can't play on PC/PS4.

360 was the first console I bought last gen. It was a nice console with games. But for my taste in games Sony has nuked Microsoft back to the stone age from my point of view.

The X360 was my first MS console and I liked it. When the Xbox One was announced, I was like "oh no no no no".

Now, however, with things like game pass, the "play anywhere" thing and backwards compatibility, I'm getting an Xbox One S.

PS4 global marketshare are divided in something like 1/4 US 1/4 EU 1/4 Asia 1/4 Latin America & other countries. Xbox are 6/10 in the US, 2/10 in the UK and the rest between EU and elsewhere. 360 sales were distributed with a similar ratio.

But the global economy has deeply changed since the PS360 and software sales shows that Sony has gain marketshare in the US and the UK over Microsoft. The Xbox isn't doing that bad, it's just the PS4 that is doing extremely well.

Wouldn't say I stuck with Xbox since I buy all consoles but I did all of my multiplatforms on Xbox due to Xbox Live over PSN and that gamble has paid off now with the way Xbox X performs

I buy everything, but I prefer Xbox to Steam, and I don't particularly like Playstation or Nintendo anymore.

Steam rules all, but if I could hook my Xbox account into my massive Steam library, I would.

I have more than 500 games carrying forward from all generations that run on my One consoles. The X is a great machine I didn't ask for or want compared to the Japanese game drought, but it impresses. Playstation has a few good exclusives a year. I liked HZD much more than Zelda BOTW.

I have never owned a xbox in my life, and I'm seriously thinking in jumping in for the next gen (instead of ps5, but I will still own a Switch and PC). The reason? I really am starting to like the company policy and views, with services as gamepass, the backwards compability and the integration with the windows OS. If the only complied with the games...

I bought when Sunset Overdrive launched. Quantum Break was in the horizon, and of course Gears of War.

I kinda missed the launch shitstorm, but not even all the new policies seemed negative to me. By the way I prefer the actual focus more.

I did. I got it around the end of 2014, after its official launch in my region. The Halo series, the promise of Crackdown 3, the time and money invested in my account, and me liking what I saw of Sunset Overdrive is what kept me from switching. I guess in the end, considering backwards compatability and the Play Anywhere stuff (not that I have used PA all that much), for me, it was a good decision.

I have been thinking of getting a PS4 more lately than ever, but that is just because I have been interested in trying out the Yakuza series since like 0 came out. My Xbox would most likely still be my main console.

I stayed then left then I decided to buy all the consoles. I still feel like the brand lacks direction and I miss the Mattrick era but eh what can ya do...

I was a 360 user, and like others here, was anticipating the X1. Sony had lost me with their cockiness in the 7th gen, so I was happy to support the Xbox brand.

Until the lead up to the X1 release.

Man, they really made me do a 180 after the 360. I now have a better undersatanding of what they were trying to do, and think the original design for the system was a bit ahead of its time, but between Don Mattrick and Major Nelson, I found their messaging about the system really off-putting back then. The biggest issues I had were with the Kinect (or Spy Box as it was known leading up to the release), the price, and the system specs. It really did feel anti-consumer to me.

I waited it out until early 2015 before I bought any console, but ultimately, it was Bloodborne that made me jump back in to the Playstation ecosystem (after an 11 year hiatus). I love what Xbox is doing now with BC, and their overall consumer-friendly approach to the brand, but I'll wait until the 9th generation before I consider going back.

I did until last E3. I really wanted a One X but the price was more than I wanted to pay and also, they showed nothing of interest that I could only play on their conosle, and I realised that I hadn't really played or cared about an Xbox exclusive game since probably Halo 4. I already had a PS4 so I just upgraded it to a Pro and sold my Xbox One, re-bought a couple of games (Overwatch/Battlefield 1) and that was that.

It's a shame as well because they've done a really, really good job with their ecosystem and the backwards compatibility is fantastic, plus I think the consoles are built better than Sony's this gen (why does my Pro sound like a jet engine all the time?) so I'm definitely in a pretty neutral place come next generation, but as long as Sony keep providing much better first party experiences that I can only play on their console then they'll always have a place under my TV even if it's only as a second console.

I still use it thanks to gamepass, but all the good ganes are on PS4/Switch now so thats basically the only reason for now, and it will stay that way until Forza Horizon 4.

Even before the X, Xbox one had the better superior service, features controller etc so it was an easy choice.

I know someone who refuses to switch to PS4 only because of his gamerscore, not the games or anything else. He has 400k or something has even said he'd love to play on PS4 but wont because of his gamerscore. He said he's missing out on games he'd like to play but instead just stays on XB because he wants to just up his score and actually plays mostly badly reviewed shitty games that are easy to obtain achievements on. I'd understand if he played decent games too but he just plays the easiest ones for gamerscore regardless of quality.

I just dont understand these people. They aren't playing video games to actually enjoy the medium and the main reason people play them. They are playing it for a different reason altogether. Kinda defeats the purpose of videogame for them. Are they enjoying them or are they enjoying just getting achievements regardless of the game itself? I think it's the latter. Life is too short to play shitty games for a number. Too many good games out there you'd just not play if you did this. I mean I love trophies, they are a nice compliment to a good game and increase longevity if done right but not the sole reason to play a game. You just end up wasting your gaming time on trash.

It's like going into a car but not driving it. Defeats the purpose.

I love RPGs, I love stat based games where I can max out things, I love collect-a-thons where I have a check list to get 100% in a game.
Achievements are the same way and serve that purpose. The only downside are the ones that force you into multiplayer dependent situations that get dead server populations years later.

Nothing wrong with achievements, they're added incentive to play the game.

I mostly play pc now but have both ps4 and xbone. I haven't turned on the ps4 in a long time because I refuse to support a company that is happy to orphan my digital purchases gen to gen..
I want to play God of War and horizon but I haven't bothered to pick them up.

My Xbox is for where my rl friends play

I bought mine in Jan 2015. I was still using my 360 quite a lot for Gears. Was pretty happy that before the year was up I had all 4 originals on XB1 and a remaster of 1 with an active MP community.

I've played the majority of the exclusives minus the Forza games and I've enjoyed them quite a bit. In fact I would say the first half of the generation was tilted in Xbox's favor exclusive wise.

I mean I got both base models at launch (and the X and Pro at launch), and its gone back and forth over the gen as to which is my main console but overall I think I would consider Xbox my main (unless you count PC), its for three reasons.

1. The controller, I just don't like the DS4. It feels like shit in my hands and the battery time is woeful. They should have changed the design more between DS3 and 4. I especially hate its triggers so if I'm playing a game that involves shooting I'm not playing it on PS4 if its available anywhere else. This dovetails nicely with 2.

2. Friends list, I had a lot of friends on Xbox after 360 generation, my PS3 friends list was almost non-existent, I am an old man now and I don't want to go through the hassle of doing all that work. That means all console multi is played on Xbox.

3. PS network, I have shit internet and downloads take forever. PS downloads take me an astronomically long time. Don't get me wrong Xbox downloads take their sweet ass time too but generally not as long as PS.

I definitely did. I like what Microsoft has to offer, and the Xbox family has been my main console since the OG Box. I later got a PS4, but didn't enjoy what it had to offer other than Bloodborne and never played the system, so I traded it for a Switch.

I mean, I didn't jump in right off the bat, but waited a bit and got both in the same year, even upgrading to both One X and Pro. I may play the Pro more often, but I'm happier with the Xbox purchase, if that makes any sense. I'm glad to still have a solid foothold in a consumer-facing ecosystem, and if I smell even a fraction of bullshit from Sony when they announce PS5, it's off the table because I at least know that the new and greatly improved Microsoft is good for it...just maybe not on the exclusive games front.

Me.

I didn't think the Launch was "borked" though. Bought it for Kinect, PiP and Microsoft's integration with Windows.

Also would have preferred the online check since I would be able to buy physical games and turn them into digital. My home console is shared elsewhere anyway so my console requires a 24/7 online connection, rarely have problems.

And Game Sharing along with Microsoft Rewards getting me Xbox Live and Game Pass for free, I haven't had the need to buy any games for a long time now.

I did. I play all multiplat games on the X1X. Xbox system is still my favorite thanks to the Live and achievements.

I never owned any xbox console before this gen began so I didn't really "stick" with xbox despite its disastrous reveal and lackluster launch, but I still wound up opting for an xbox1 anyways because I wanted to play Forza Horizon 2.

I got a used xbox 360 slim in 2014 which was my first xbox and fell in love with Forza Horizon which lead to getting a 1 in early 2016 for its sequels.

Me.

The 360 was an outstanding console and I was so invested in Live and the friends id built up over the years, Xbox One was for me.

After the poor reveal and ever more car crash E3, I was still all in. While I could see why people were frustrated with the always online and no used games, it didn't effect me... And then they back peddled

There was a moment where I flirted with the idea of switching to PS4. Some friends had and my Gold was due to expire. But I didn't, instead I played hundereds of hundreds of games.

I am so glad I did.

Backwards compatibility has opened up so many outstanding titles that I missed last gen. It also game we access to hundreds of more games I own.

Then the One X. Something that, on initial reveal, had me super hyped. Could it live up to it? No way.

But holy shit it did. Current games look and play better, 360 games look and play better. OG Xbox BC in 4k?

And what? Netflix of gaming? Yeah, er, right. Oh no, it is right - Game Pass is one of the best value gaming services out there. Incredible. And EA Access? Dat value.

Add to all this: Halo 5, where the multiplayer was outstanding. Forza Horizon just going onto another level. Gears 4 absolutely breathtaking to look at and a solid return of the franchise.

Cuphead, Ori, PUBG, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive. OG Titanfall was phenomenal.

And all the major 3rd party titles? Before the One X, yes the resolution was often lower than the PS4, but I don't recall anything being 'unplayable' compared to Sony's platform. Compare that to some of the 360/PS3 generation games... Sony often lagged behind, particularly in the early-ish days of that gen.

I get why so many people chose Sony over MS. And I do not blame them one bit. I also get that PC Era can say many of the games and services I've mentioned can be played there.

But for me, sticking with Xbox was absolutely the right thing to do. And next gen? With 'forwards compatibility'? I very much doubt I'll be going anywhere.

Define "stuck with"? I got everything Day 1, and really have no regrets other than the pangs of guilt for spending my own money instead of someone else's (man do I love racking up large quotes for customers then buying all the things, the ultimate retail therapy).

Sony didnt "do" jack, MS effed up a little (or a lot), the press was willing to make a console war for profit so sony got basically infinite free PR. If you think thats wonderful, thats also partly how we got trump (infinite free pr), so, take that with a grain of salt.

EDIT: Oh reasons. Mostly because the console wars have always been dumb so I don't personally subscribe to them, so I use the things I buy, and I buy because I want to use them.

Well, a couple of reasons. First, ps4 lineup was even weaker than xbox one, so games at that point was not a factor. Then i instantly fell in love with the one controller. Finally, a quite unique feature: hdmi in. Thanks to that i was able to setup a fantastic entertainment living room at my old home.

Only jumped ship to X1 when BC became a thing. I was kinda happy with still having a 360 by that point, gaming less and less though. Both X1 and PS4 were ridiculously expensive in my region and i had no rush to be part of the current gen before buying just the hardware and the odd new game out while still keeping most of my old collection turned into a possibility. Then i just gave my old 360 to my dad as a netflix/youtube machine and bought a X1

would probably be switch only this gen if BC wasnt a thing, honestly. Pro and One X would have scared me from investing in either sony or microsoft, whatever new nintendo released was already a given because of the kids

I use my Xbox as a tv guide for my antenna and 4k bluray player mostly. Occasionally will play Forza Horizon or State of Decay (2) tho. Kind of a shame since Microsoft has been working so hard to rebuild those bridges after that 2013 E3, but Game Pass and slightly better performance won't drag me away from PS4 for multiplats.

I went half on an Xbox One with my brother the Black Friday after it came out, but only because the Target we went to was fresh out of PS4 bundles by the time we got there. We would play 2K and NHL here and there, I bought Halo 5 at some point later on, but it's mostly collected dust.

I even let my brother take it with him once he moved out because I just didn't play it much.

The PS4 I got last summer has seen FAR more use than the XB1 has. I still mainly game on PC, though.

I've been an Xbox guy since 2004 and the One has been my primary platform this gen. Hasn't been easy either. X is good though and the future is bright.
