Self explanatory. Best and worst natural landscapes.

Best: Arizona, Hawaii, Colorado
Worst: Erm....Missouri?

The west coast states in general have the best. The worst are the flat plains states in the middle of the country. I was bored to death driving through them.

Best are probably all in the Mountain West, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Colorado, plus Hawaii, while worse are probably the infinitely flat Plains states like Kansas and Nebraska.

west coast is the most geographically diverse, I'd say California has the most of any state. Absolutely beautiful

worst are the plains states. havent been to kansas or nebraska but if downstate Illinois is any indication of what that area looks like then one of those

Best: Utah, Hawaii, California
Worst: Something in the plains or midwest? Nebraska? Indiana?

Best: Colorado, Utah

No, Missouri is beautiful and has the Ozark Mountains, more caves than any other state, tons and tons of lakes, and a wealth of environmental diversity that makes it an absolute joy to live in or drive through.

Runner up: Tennessee is fuckin beautiful.

Typically, Kansas gets dinged for lack of environmental diversity, and unless you love grassland, that's the correct take. But Nebraska is actually much worse. Iowa is worse than that.

Worst:
-- My nomination is the region between Atlanta and Orlando. Holy fuck what a hellscape.
-- West Texas is remarkably barren. East Texas is beautiful.

Colorado and Utah are way up on my list, as is the entire west coast. I think New England is usually not brought up enough in these conversations, the fall is really beautiful in Maine if a bit chilly.

Worst is everything in the middle, Nebraska Kansas Iowa etc. Easy but incredibly boring to drive through.

Never been there myself, but a friend recently took a road trip through Kansas and said he wanted to blow his brains out.

Washington, Colorado, Utah, and California are stunning, but I'll also give a nod to all of New England in the fall - it's something else.

Worst? Indiana/Ohio in my experience. Miles and miles of just flat nothing.

You are so off on Missouri. The bootheel is pretty bland, but the Ozarks are great. The rest of the state has some beautiful stuff as well. I wouldn't put it at the top, but it's nowhere near the bottom.

I'm probably a bit biased, considering I'm from there, but I'm super fond of how Tennessee looks. Each of the 3 sections is so different, and I love them all, but East TN will always hold a special place in my heart. I absolutely adore those mountains.

Not to mention all the waterfalls. TN has a surprising amount of lovely falls.

As for worst. Hmm, I wasn't too impressed with Iowa. I haven't seen it all, but what I have seen was boring as crap.

new england does have some amazing spots for sure. Vermont in the fall is jawdropping, and the whole Maine coastline is wild

I have a lot of fondness for the Massachusetts islands and the weird scrub pine beach forests on Cape Cod

Colorado is pretty rad and Wyoming is a treasure. 3 of Utah's National Parks are within 4 hours of me which is incredible.

The hate for plains land I see so often makes me sad tho, beautiful in its own way and driving through that is better than mountains.

Alaska and Hawaii are honestly in their own tiers in my opinion, Denali in Autumn is unbelievable.

New Jersey really is like a wet fart of landscape.

At least Kansas/Nebraska are hauntingly empty.

There can be beauty in the minimalism of the flat lands of Kansas. The vast prairie is like an endless green and golden ocean that never stops waving and dancing in the wind. And the sky always puts on a show here. It can be a hard place, but it can be beautiful too. It'll get beaten up in this thread, but there's no place like home.

The variety of landscapes in Texas is pretty cool.

Y'all underestimating the beautiful horizon of an endless plain.

Yeah, I legitimately think the midwest is gorgeous. It feels super relaxing.

Lol, I would say the opposite. I love the barren look of the southwest so West Texas is really beautiful imo, but think the swamps and forests of east Texas are pretty bland for the most part

Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah

Worst would be Kansas for me. It's just one long flat, brown, and ugly state.

Iowa seemed to have nothing but endless fields of corn.

The drive from Austin to Guadalupe Peak in West Texas was pretty beautiful from my memory, definitely 10 times better than Austin or Houston to New Orleans or Houma Lousianna lol.

Alaska.

Worst is Kansas. There is no good looking natural landscape there, that's why hucksters make those weird roadside "largest thing in the world" places. Not much else to see. I remember many a trip and that's all we could do. Oklahoma is a close second, then Nebraska. From someone who grew up in the plains, the plains suck and for every pretty field of sunflowers there's a hundred of just dirt.

Underrated is Arkansas, BTW. Just the right balance of plains, mountains and dense forrest. Texas in that same vein.

Naahhhhh, Arkansas's named The Natural State for a reason. It's the best part about it.

Yep.

Arkansas's scenery is really the best part about it. So much variety in such a smaller place than expected. Absolutely the best part about it.

pavement, strip malls, swamp, surburbia, more pavement, cement

New Jersey really is like a wet fart of landscape.

At least Kansas/Nebraska are hauntingly empty.

New Jersey is actually very varied. There are a lot of beautiful, preserved areas.

Delaware Water Gap (shared with PA, but still counts), High Point State Park, New Jersey Palisades, Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Pine Barrens, and many beautiful beaches.

Best is a hard pick, there's tons of states with terrain that's beautiful in any number of myriad ways.

Worst is easy: if the state is shaped like a rectangle, it's got shit terrain. You can tell because when they were making the map there was nothing interesting enough to describe the borders and they just made it a rectangle instead.

Best: I like most of Appalachia
Worst: Indiana or Arkansas

Indiana is hilly in the south and has Lake Michigan coastline (beaches, big sand dunes) in the north, so I don't think it's as bad overall as the flat as a pancake states with no coastline. The Ohio River valley has some nice areas too.

The fact that only one person here has mentioned Montana is a shame upon everyone who has posted. It contains some of the most beautiful places in the world, bar none.

Errrrrrr Colorado is shaped like a rectangle so your argument is a little flawed.
