I was on Wikipedia and noticed that the original Resident Evil (1996) received a full remake only a mere 6 years later on the Gamecube (2002)

Is there any other game that received a full remake even more shortly after its original release?

It doesn't beat RE, but Twin Snakes also came out only 6 years after the original MGS.

The Caligula Effect is sorta receiving one now as it goes from Vita to PS4? At least, that's what the devs are calling it.

So... After roughly a year and a half, maybe two by the time it releases.

Counter-Strike: Source is essentially a remake of Condition Zero minus the SP "campaign" and the two released less than nine months apart, if that counts.

Quest for Glory (1989) - remake was released 3 years later in 1992.
There were quite a few ports back in the day that were so radically altered that they might count as remakes.

In my 20s, this seem really short:
Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards 1987
Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (SCI remake with VGA and full voice) 1991

Telltale Walking Dead Season 3? Was enhanced for the collection

Released December 2016 Enhanced December 2017 less than a year later.

The fact it wasn't a free upgrade is why I'd consider it a remake.

It gets blurry with cross-generational games that came out about the same time, like Wario's Woods on NES and then on SNES.

I suppose the first Hyperdimension Neptunia? Original release was in 2010 with its remake being released in 2013. The remake even changed a significant amount; overhauling the gameplay from standard turn-based to the battle system in later installments.

There's also Lunar: The Silver Star's Sega CD release in 1992 which recieved a Saturn remake in 1996 - Silver Star Story Complete. Lunar: Eternal Blue and its remake was also a 4 year gap.

1990's Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon was remade 4 years later on the SFC; the first half of 1994's Mystery of the Emblem.

Wasn't there a PSN game at PS4 launch that was so bad that the devs pulled it then completely remade all in the same year?

It was an indie multiplayer thing.

Aztec Challenge was released for the Atari 800 in 1982:

Then remade a year a later, again for the Atari 800, in 1983:

DOA2 Ultimate is still my favorite DOA. :) That game was so polished and pretty. Crazy to think there were only 4 years between original and remake. How different everything is now. 4 years waiting on a game is basically nothing, lol.

nothing about this is in any way related to the topic of remakes.

ports are not remakes
remasters are not remakes

It was also the other way around, Twilight Princess for Wii was the port of the Gamecube original. And I am happy I only ever played the Gamecube version with the superior, traditional controls.

Also, every artist will tell you, you can't just mirror art, lol. That's a a big no-no.

Dragon Quest II came out for NES in 87 and SNES in 93.

Also while the gap is longer in Japan, Pokemon Red and Blue hit the States in 98, with a remake coming six years later in 2004. Even if you take in the Japanese date, there is eight years between Gen I and the Gen I remakes, which is the shortest time between any Pokemon remakes (Gen II had a ten year gap, Gen III had a twelve year gap, and we are twelve years removed from Gen IV currently).

it's literally in the name. remastered. it's not a remake.
Most of the games in this thread would be considered Remasters, I think only RE1, MGS1, and SMAS count in the purely remake regard.

Besides, a little over a year between a release and a remaster is ridiculous.

In the US there was just three years between Super Mario Bros. 3 and its Super Mario All-Stars version, which was definitely a remake. In Japan it was a 5 year gap:

Would people consider Ninja Gaiden Sigma a port or a remake?

Its quite different IMO. If a remake then 2004 (Xbox) vs 2007 (PS3).

Edit: What about Ninja Gaiden (2004) vs Ninja Gaiden Black (2005)

89 to 92 for Prince of Persia. (Apple II to SNES).

Though it could be argued it was a port, but it had almost double the levels as well as new traps, enemies and bosses and much improved graphics, so I'm comfortable calling out a remake.

Wouldve been closer to 3 years if the game didnt get delayed 500 times in the year leading to its launch. That wait was brutal, but so worth it. Even if the online was laggy, the whole lobby system was really well done and it felt like a whole new entry to the series. Then they fucked up its beautiful simplicity in 4 by adding those dumb avatar lounges.

Pinball FX has remastered tables within a year, or possibly even less, of the original release if that counts.
