Unofficial Grand Theft Auto 3 Nintendo Switch port released News

More information on how to compile it is available below. You will need to provide the files from your own GTA3 PC copy. It's incredible to see how active the Switch homebrew community is. https://gbatemp.net/threads/re3-nx-reverse-engineered-gta-3-for-nintendo-switch.574308/

Didn't see a thread. I did check the latest threads, did some forum searching, and more. Close if old.

The complete lack of GTA on Switch is pretty weird. Granted I guess they make so much money with V they can afford to not care, but yeah I feel like a basic collection would do well.

Insane to me that R* couldn't be bothered to port the Android versions of the GTA games into the Switch. Could have been easy money.

LA Noire is forever going to be the only Rockstar game on Switch :/

Makes no sense that nothing GTA related has been on a Nintendo platform since 2009. Like others said, its definitely not Nintendo being concerned with the violence and sexual content thats preventing the titles from coming to Switch, this is all Rockstars decision.

I would love to see a port of GTA III, the original. I love that game, it's easily my favorite of the series.

I still remember renting it on a whim from a local Blockbuster having played GTA II on PC a while back. I hadn't heard a thing about it, and I was surprised it wasn't top-down like the previous games.

I was completely enthralled.

I played it non-stop, went to a buddy's place and showed him some of the more devious things you can do. He was in shock, and then he couldn't put it down.

Then, I swear it must have been maybe two weeks later, the game absolutely blew up.

I like to think that I was one of the first people to "discover" GTA III and open-world games.

Needless to say, it's still one of my favorite sandboxes ever. I did finish it, too. I enjoyed the story and presentation quite a bit.

I actually thought that GTA V on Switch would be a no-brainer for Rockstar/Take Two because, y'know, they like money. But now I think we're beyond that happening. Would have been nice.

The problem would mostly be with Rockstar.

The other problem would be the belief no one would buy rockstar games on Switch, which is also a problem with Rockstar.

Which is not a problem at all, as LA Noire Switch sold just fine. There's got to be a greedy reason behind this, as it can't be technical. Switch can run decades old PS2 games.

Insane to me that R* couldn't be bothered to port the Android versions of the GTA games into the Switch. Could have been easy money.

There have been quite rumors about properly remastered versions of III-VC and San Andreas, coming all platforms. GTA3 even was rated in Australia for an undisclosed platform. And on top all of this, Rockstar is teasing something about this.

not even that big on ps2 era GTA but i'd jump on a port or barebones "remaster" of III-SA day 1

Much, MUCH easier said than done.
Look, there are plenty of demanding games on the Switch. Doom, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, The Witcher 3, and so on. You can't possibly tell me the Switch isn't capable of running a game that was originally available for consoles with 512MB of unified memory.

Besides, I never said it was easy. Game development is never easy. But there are no evidences suggesting it isn't possible.

3, Vice City and San Andreas is a no brainer but I guess Rockstar dont think its worthwhile to find devs to do the port

Rockstar wouldn't port GTAV without GTAO, and GTAO runs AWFUL on PS4/XBO.
It's not worth it for them because if you're struggling with 8gb of memory, you'll need to cut SIGNIFICANTLY to even somewhat fit in 4gb.
To me, I can see why it's not worth it. To a consumer I can also see why it would suck not to have it, but some things are just not possible when it comes to the real part of GTAV that's makes money.

The Switch can obviously handle GTAV, GTA Online would probably be harder though and I highly doubt Rockstar is interested in putting GTAV on a platform unless Online can come with it. Probably still possible but a much taller order, and Rockstar may just not see the work it would take as worth it.

So you agree? You agree that Rockstar is the issue?
