The No.1 game was, unsurprisingly, EA Sports FC 25. The new football game saw launch sales drop 4.6% over last year's title. Although the game's sales are slightly lower than last year, the game's premium early access edition actually performed better year-on-year.

The Saber Interactive and Pullup Entertainment title is already the third best-selling new game released this year, behind the aforementioned EA Sports FC 25 and February's Helldivers 2.

The third biggest game of the month is The Crew 2 from Ubisoft. The 2018 racing title was discounted to under £1, which was just to cover the game's platform fee, which caused a huge surge in sales.

Over 126,000 games consoles were sold in the UK last month, which is 35% down on September 2023, NielsenIQ/GfK data shows.PS5 was comfortably the top-selling console once again, well ahead of second place Xbox Series S and X. Nintendo Switch is No.3 again, and has now slipped to No.3 for the year.

It was a big month for the PS5 All-Digital console, which had its second best month so far (its previous best was December 2023).

As we head into the fourth quarter, console sales this year are down 32% over 2023.Over in accessories, over 743,000 products were sold at UK retail, which is 11% up over September last year. The No.1 accessory this month was the Midnight Black DualSense controller, which means the White variety has dropped to No.2. New at No.10 is the DualSense Astro Bot limited edition controller.

Making a first-time appearance is the PS5 Disc Drive, which is at No21 by units, but No 8 by revenue. This will be driven by the success of the PS5 All-Digital console last month, plus increased stock levels for the standalone Disc Drive.

126,000 consoles sold between three companies in one month is… not a lot. Is the UK no longer the largest market in Europe?

In hindsight, the whole "UK sales are irrelevant" just because people didn't like the initial reports on Astro Bot's sales was super freaking weird.

More publishers should put their old games on sale for a quid. So much more enticing than the standard £3.75 or £4.99 sales. It charts and if nothing else, reminded me that The Crew is a franchise that exists

What people were saying is that physical only sales on a single market were irrelevant for gauging its success. It's not even just an Astro thing, it happens over and over with the UK retail charts.

"Discounted racing game sells really large amount of units in the UK" should shock nobody at this point. Need for Speed always does it, F1 games do it just before the new one comes out, now The Crew 2 does it...

I can't remember the last racing game that didn't do really well here.

I wouldn't have made my comment if it was just that. Some people did say what you described. Other people said what I described verbatim.

COD, FIFA, and racing games are the holy trifecta here

-Astro Bot sales are 24% up over Ratchet & Clank

- Switch has slipped to No.3 in the annual console rankings, with Xbox overtaking it.

- The Crew 2 for less than £1 sends the game to No.3

Did Ratchet have good sales though? I remember a thread here where it seemed like it didn't do well, or atleast as well as Sony wanted.

The overall sales were good, I think what you were seeing is that it didn't make back its budget until a little while later per the leaked documents. But it's definitely well in the black by now and Astro Bot was likely a considerable amount cheaper to make.

Ratchet sales were good in the context of a platform game released at full price on a PlayStation console. Astro budget should also be significantly lower considering that Asobi is a "small" team for today standards (around 60-70 people) and salaries in Japan are not even close to US salaries.

At first glance, Astro Bot at #5 doesn't look that great, but...
1. FC25 is one of the biggest yearly games and not a surprise at all to see it in first place.
2. Space Marine 2 is so huge and I think it even broke some records for this series.
3. The Crew 2 was under £1. So it sold great in a country with huge amount of racing players and I think even some non-racer gamers bought it, because it's almost free! lol
4. It was the first month of Star Wars Outlaws in UK charts. A Star Wars game on 3 platforms above Astro Bot isn't that weird, even if it didn't sell as much as Ubisoft wanted.

Did Ratchet have good sales though? I remember a thread here where it seemed like it didn't do well, or atleast as well as Sony wanted.
According to Insomniac leaks, I think it was second best selling R&C game after R&C 2016 (which was $40).

At No.4 in the charts is Star Wars Outlaws. It was a disappointing start for Ubisoft's game, and is now tracking (slightly) behind the launch of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was developed by the same studio and released back in December 2023. Ubisoft is now actively pushing Star Wars over the Q4 sales window.
Oof for Outlaws to be already tracking behind Frontiers of Pandora since its launch sales were 50% better according to reports, although Avatar did have Xmas holidays period to boost it so it's not exactly a one to one comparison. Hopefully Q4 will be better for Outlaws now that it can be Ubisoft's main marketing focus after Shadows was moved out to next year

I gave Space Marine 2 a whirl just for shits and giggles and honestly, came away very impressed and enjoyed it so much. Beat it in like two sittings because I had so much fun. Glad to see it doing well!

Astro Bot looks like it's doing well also. Good start to that final third of the year.

Xbox is a beast.

Half joking though, gotta celebrate small victories. I dont want Xbox consoles to disappear.

We know it sold over 5 million units. If Astro Bot does the same then Sony and Team Asobi are going to be happy.

Ratchet sales were good in the context of a platform game released at full price on a PlayStation console. Astro budget should also be significantly lower considering that Asobi is a "small" team for today standards (around 60-70 people) and salaries in Japan are not even close to US salaries.

Thanks, I wasn't to sure if it was a knee jerk reaction thread, or if it was one where it sold well but Sony wanted 20 million in sales.

Yeah that was it, from the leaks R&C had sold 4 million and was yet to break even. As you you said though I imagine Astro wouldn't have had the same budget.

The thread was misleading. It was a document from 2020 before the game even released and where Sony projected the game will sell only 2 million copies lifetime and won't cover the development budget.

We don't really get monthly data from most other European countries to compare so not sure what comparison is suggesting a sudden shift to you? Only Germany or France can compete with the UK. But think we only get hardware numbers from Spain, where 37,400 consoles were sold during September.

R&C actually ended up turning a decent profit at "just" 2.7 million sold.

From the leaks:

Parts of these leaks revealed that in June 2020 Rift Apart was projected to sell 2.2 million units and generate $73 million in revenue on an $81 million budget. In the same leak it was revealed that over 2.7 million copies of the game were shipped (sell-in) and turned a profit with $145 million in net sales by February 2022. Further leaks revealed that Rift Apart had sold over 3.97 million units by its second calendar year (June 2023).

With the Crew 2 selling well because of the whole $1 thing... hopefully Ubisoft is encouraged to support it one more time with a PS5 Pro patch. Well not really because there is no PS5 app version.. but they can add a new mode that combines performance and visual......like what they did to bring 60fps for PS5 users.
