Tetsuya Nomura is at it again.

So, last year Disney announced an special hotel room in Tokyo dedicated to the Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary
sec_im01_01.jpg

There, they've said that there would be a Kingdom Hearts treasure chest said to have something special for fans
TreasureChestKingdomHearts.png

They've started taking guests on January 6th, and thanks to twitter user @aitaikimochi, that went to this hotel room, we have information on what's in the chest.

There is an embargo on the contents of the chest that will expire on 28th April. Edited as I've said that it was on April 10th before.
You can't take photos or videos of it, but I guess you can talk about it:

The Oblivion (The Black Keyblade) is the key that you use to get inside your room, and that has no embargo on it.

This is supposed the Oathkeeper as we know, and it is in that box, with a few differences that I'm sure it will get those fans speculating.

All I can is that:

If they didn't make something related to the anniversary event related to the plot, then it would be an absolute failure of a KH event.

Is there any indication it isn't just like a "thank you for being a fan" gift bag kind of deal? Just looks like something fun for people who actually stay

I'm not mad or baffled, I just hope those in the kingdom hearts verse are all okay and not rushing to try and get to Japan to book a hotel room.

If there's any series that needs a spinoff completely divorced from the canon it's kingdom hearts

It's important to the plot, but not the plot of Kingdom Hearts. Turns out that keyblade was what was in the briefcase at the end of Pulp Fiction.

I've been wanting a reboot where they dump the Final Fantasy stuff and just have a fun journey through a bunch of Disney worlds for years now.

lol fantastic.

I can't wait to see how Sora's Smash appearance factors into canon.

A fucking hotel room! And I thought the Nier stage plays were a stretch.

Gotta respect the hustle, *tips hat*

Could be a Kairi version Oathkeeper? Like Kingdom Key D or whatever Mickey had. But then that'd imply Kairi would get to use a keyblade and we all know Nomura isn't going to let her be a real person.

It's fun to picture how this escalates. Like maybe next year, 20 fans can buy expensive tickets for a meeting with Nomura. He has them sign legal papers waiving any liability, and then he locks the door and snaps a pool cue in half, throwing the pieces on the ground and saying: "OK, whoever is the last one alive, I will tell you the next bit of lore." So you only have to pay $5,000 for the ticket and kill 19 fellow fans, but you will be able to share the clue on Twitter!

I'm sure it's not actually plot-relevant, y'all. It's just probably just got a piece art inside that's some kind of tease for the next project.

Pretty sure that's exactly what it is. No reason to embargo it until the anniversary event otherwise.

I want to kinda roll my eyes at the thread title being low hanging fruit, but in all fairness, this is the same franchise that made a plot detail somewhat critical to KH3's endgame exclusive to a one off stage performance during an orchestra concert in Japan.

So I can't even front like this would be out of the ordinary for KH

So there's a good chance the promotional pewter keyblade we got at E3 2001 will end up being important?

They gave her a (sick) moveset in ReMIND. I'm going to be more surprised if the next game doesn't make use of that and the other ones they have now.

What? It's a promotion that is embargoed to when the promotion ends, April 28th. The blue on the keychain is just the other side of the star. One side is yellow, the other blue. Where did this thread title come from?

We're finally going to get canonical proof that Sora wears size 13 shoes which will be important in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts browser-only Battle Royale game

I mean....there's no way this hotel is actually in the game right? Like Sora wouldn't wake up here...right?

I'd rather have a pure FF x Disney game without the KH nonsense. Ironically the KH stuff is the least interesting and worst stuff in the KH games. Just make a KH game without KH, basically.

No way, the appeal was always hanging out with Hercules, Aladdin, and the rest of the Disney gang.
The Disney stuffs the hook to get you in the door, but the cheesy kudzu anime plot is the real heart of the series and what actually makes it something special. If you strip that out you just end up with the mediocrity known as Epic Mickey.

In order of what I care about in the series it's: Disney > Original Material (in terms of character designs, the lore may as well not exist) > FF. The only Final Fantasy game I've liked is whatever one had Vaan in it (10?), so those references are complete misses for me.

Ideally I'd want a rebooted Kingdom Hearts to have a fairly simple, easy to follow shonen-y plot with an original protaganist and few original friends and they basically go into the Disney-equivalent of Peach's Castle or Gruntilda's various lairs. Have the gummi-ship in there somewhere, because building those are kind of fun.

Vaan was in FF12, which is a great game indeed. But yeah, the actual KH stuff has always been the least interesting stuff in the series for me, largely due to how godawful the story and lore is.
