Paramount Home Media Distribution will bring to 4K Blu-ray Cecil B. DeMille's classic film The Ten Commandments (1956), starring Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Anne Baxter, Edward G. Robinson, and Yvonne De Carlo. Currently, the release is set to arrive on the market on March 30.

Synopsis: Enjoying a life of ease in the court of Egypt's pharaoh, Moses (Charlton Heston) discovers his Hebrew heritage and, later, God's expectations of him. He dedicates himself to liberating his people from captivity and -- with the aid of plagues and divine intervention -- manages to lead them out of Egypt and across the Red Sea. A greater challenge comes in the form of the golden calf idol, however, and it takes an unforgettable visitation by God on Mount Sinai for Moses' mission to prevail

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • 6K RESTORATION OF THE FILM COMPLETED IN 2010
  • BRAND NEW DOLBY VISION PRESENTATION OF THE FILM*
  • Audio Commentary by Katherine Orrison, author of "Written in Stone: Making Cecil B. DeMille's Epic The Ten Commandments"
  • Newsreel footage of the film's New York premiere
  • Theatrical trailers, including at 10-minute "making of" trailer
  • An introduction by DeMille, an intermission, an overture/exit music card, and an entr'acte card, along with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack
*As part of the restoration done in 2010, the film was scanned in 6K and those files were the basis for this brand new Dolby Vision version, which shows off the full beauty of the original VistaVision negative. The VistaVision format used special cameras to feed 35mm film into the camera horizontally in order to capture a wider image spread over two 35mm film frames, giving VistaVision twice the resolution of regular 35mm film. In addition, Paramount spent well over 150 hours doing new color work and clean-up on the scan. The move to Dolby Vision created the opportunity to further improve the look of the film: blacks are enhanced and improvements were made to smooth out special effects mattes to create the most vibrant and pristine image possible

I'll probably get it, already looked amazing on Blu-ray. Colours will pop even more in HDR.

I feel like one of the few people who doesn't much care for this film. It just drags on for so long, and the dialog is so cheesy at times. I think it looks incredibly dated too, especially when compared with Ben-Hur, which is from the same time period and still looks amazing. I don't hate it, but I think it can be hard to get through. I think The Prince of Egypt does the same story far better.

However I am glad it's getting a 4K disc. It's one of those movies that is culturally significant, so it deserves this kind of release.

The Ten Commandments 4K Blu-ray (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray)

The Ten Commandments 4K Blu-ray Release Date March 30, 2021. Blu-ray reviews, news, specs, ratings, screenshots. Cheap Blu-ray movies and deals.

Paramount's UHD picture quality is divine. Tack sharp, superbly colorful, and perfectly filmic, there are no squabbles at all, save, perhaps, for the matte visuals which never looked seamless and are only amplified in effect here. Still, it's a small price to pay for an otherwise A+ image. With no technical plagues befalling it and the gorgeous Dolby Vision color grading enhancing the material, it's easy to overlook the exclusion of a whole disc's worth of extras. For sheer picture quality of a classic film few currently, or in the future will, look better than this. This UHD earns my highest recommendation.
