Edgewater is a backwater settlement located in the region of Emerald Vale, owned and operated by Spacer's Choice. The people of Edgewater are hardy, loyal company folk devoted to working in the town's Saltuna Canning Facility until the day they die, at which point they're buried in the local Spacer's Choice Cemetery — provided they've paid their burial fees. The Spacer's Choice family takes care of its own.

Reed Tobson — Edgewater's administrator — can help you find a power regulator to repair your ship. A staple in Obsidian games has always been a complex narrative with a variety of dialogue options, and The Outer Worlds is no different as you will have multiple options when approaching conversations.

Your character's abilities and companions also play a part in conversations. For example, you may have the option to lie to someone if you have enough charisma, or potentially your companion is a skilled engineer and can help dig you out of a technical discussion that is way over your head.

Reed points you to a power regulator in the nearby botanical district. All you need to do is head down to the geothermal plant, cut off power to the botanical district, and take their power regulator for yourself. As often with the decisions you face in The Outer Worlds, this will not be an easy choice and you will see that the botanical district is home to a group of refugees led by Adelaide McDevitt.

Nice! A few minutes in and this feels like we're finally getting the sequel to New Vegas we all wanted. Performance looks a bit choppy, though. Add motion blur, please.

New previews for The Outer Worlds have dropped today.

In today's NGT, Joe Juba shows me and Leo some of the footage he captured during a recent hands-on session – about 45 minutes of it, in fact. Also, he highlights what happens if you act like an absolute maniac.

these are the five biggest takeaways that stood out after my time with The Outer Worlds.

The Outer Worlds (not to be confused with the excellent and extremely similarly named space-exploration game Outer Wilds, which came out earlier this year) draws on Obsidian's own past RPG and action experiences to create something that's at once both new and familiar to anyone who's played those past games.

The Outer Worlds is being made by the same minds behind the original Fallout games and Fallout: New Vegas. Those games, unlike the Fallout titles made by Bethesda Game Studios, allow players to kill every single living being. Whether you think this is a good or bad thing is up to you and your god, but there are certainly folks who enjoy that level of moral freedom in their video games.

Picking up a controller and stepping into The Outer Worlds felt like putting on a jacket that I used to love but thought I had lost. One that still fits almost as well as it used to, and still looks pretty damn good despite the aging threads holding it together.

This video explains how the flaw system works and how it can affect gameplay in The Outer Worlds.

Check out 22 minutes of a side-quest in The Outer Worlds as you help one of your party members, Nyoka, track down members of her old group.

I want you to know I had every intention of poisoning the tumor-ridden pigs in The Outer Worlds. I'd snuck into the local meat factory – using a disguise that made me look like a guard – and inched around to the control panel for the feeding system But – curses! – I didn't have the medicine skills needed to mess with the Vitamin A doses. So I had to turn to the RPG player's last resort... slaughtering absolutely everyone in the building to complete my objective.

Kahlief hangs out with the folks from Obsidian Entertainment to check out their new game The Outer Worlds. We catch up with Senior Narrative Designer Carrie Patel to hear all about world-building. The new companion system and dig a little into what players might find while exploring the world

Playstation got exclusive gameplay for a developer who is now owned by Microsoft? I get that it's a multiplat game but..

No but seriously, that bodes well for extremely open-ended quest design, since the reason you can't do that in other RPG titles is generally that the linear quests will break.

Please please please let the gameplay be good. I had my share of enjoyment with the top-down Fallouts (can't say I'm a huge fan but I liked them) but the first person ones feel so weak as shooters that I just can't play more than a couple minutes of 'em without getting bored, even when the worldbuilding seems good. This game certainly looks to be feeling better, but I don't know still.

How is the gameplay exclusive to Playstation when everyone has it?

Shooting and overall gameplay looks super flaccid, which bums me out.

Liking to look of it, despite it almost feeling kinda.. dated in its mechanics? Not far off looking like a true spiritual successor to New Vegas, with some implemented stuff like reputation from Pillars 2 and like NV having guns feeling nonpunchy and hollow.
But that's more than enough for a lot of people, I suppose. Not triggering mad hype for me that's all. I'm looking forward to playing it via Game Pass though, thanks for that Obsidian!

Yes?
It's all on Take-Two right now, after that it is on MS.
They're owned by MS. MS employees are already there (Gameinformer noted this for its cover story). PD is the publisher. It doesn't mean like everyone is sectioned off into a silo kept away from all the benefits of the parent company. Maybe you meant the marketing? But saying they have "nothing" to do with it isn't accurate.

So MS providing funds so that Obsidian can hire more and better talent for TOW and other projects means that they have nothing to do with the game...ok...sure.

He was talking about the fact that Microsoft has nothing to do with the publishing of the game. learn to read. This includes marketing, putting out trailers etcetera.

Defo waiting for a few patches before picking this one up.

Hope it turns out well as it's likely the last Obsidian game I'll be playing.

What the fuck are you talking about?
MS has nothing to do with The Outer World trailers, press events and everything related to the game marketing, it's all on Take-Two.
Private Division is publishing the game on ALL platforms, they have the publishing deals even if Obsidian and The Outer Worlds are owned by MS.

Maybe you meant the marketing? But saying they have "nothing" to do with it isn't accurate.

Of course it's marketing, publishing and everything related to the launch of the game, Private Division is even publishing the game on Xbox.

Not a huge fan of the look tbh. That retro Art Deco future thing doesn't do it for me.

That said it's free on PC game pass so prob give it a try.

Loving the choice/consequence system for perks, and the non-linear involvement with NPCs. That said, the biggest selling point has been hearing to expect a 30-40 hour experience. That's my sweet spot for RPGs!

I guess Take Two has a marketing deal with Sony then. It's cool enough that the game will be on Game Pass day one though.

What deal tho?

Didn't Microsoft literally start E3 with Outer Worlds footage?

Sony's just straight up saying exclusive and not telling the truth about it. This wouldn't be the first time. Remember when a bunch of games like XIII got announced and the Sony trailers made it sound like their games were coming exclusively to Playstation and then we found out that actually they're coming to PC/Switch/Xbox too?

Sony's very... very fast and loose with "exclusive."

Considering the news blowout today has footage on multiple platforms (VG247's is PC) it seems fucking weird to think Sony is telling the truth about having any exclusivity here.

Yeah that's strange then. I definitely would like to see some X footage because that's the one I'm playing.

What in the world are you talking about? I think the "exclusive" is referring specifically to this gameplay footage, which is a part of the big preview blowout going on today across multiple sites.

Dude... video says exclusive gameplay footage, not exclusive. Stop with this console war nonsense.

lol who knows. I don't know even what the hell he tries to talk about in the whole post... XIII? Isn't it like 2 console generations ago?

I've been saving my Ryzen 3-month game pass code for this game. But it looks like I should wait a few days after release and hear people's experiences with the game before using the code.

Huh? Microsoft's the one that typically has the weird exclusive wording? I'm so confused what even prompted this, it's just the footage from the PS build, not the game itself or anything.

Who cares? The use of the word exclusive seems like a total non issue.

This game's interface is so damn cool. What's the name of that font?
