By the time the synthesized voice coming off the loudspeakers had finished explaining what the invitees would have to do next, everyone in the room had already figured out what was at stake.

It wasn't death that they feared - it was the prospect of what was written in those envelopes being revealed for all to see. They were stuck in The Mansion until they figured things out, and the threat was loud and clear: if you die, everyone will know your darkest secrets. And it was the latter part of that threat that sent shivers down the invitees' spines. They had no way of knowing this at the time, but the fact that they all felt that way was the invisible connection between all of them, and the reason why they were chosen in the first place.

And now, everyone had to play their part. They would get out of this with their reputations untarnished, whatever it took.

Ah... There it was. The comforting sight of a body that wasn't their own.

With each new secret revealed, the group felt closer and closer to the truth - even if each seemed to be pieces from entirely different puzzles.

Surely there was some logic to what was happened, and this new body would help them figure it out.

Still feeling the relief of having a huge weight lifted off their shoulders, the 14 invitees that were still alive didn't seem too bothered by the macabre decoration of the new room they had been moved to.

The blue walls had splashes of a liquid that seemed like blood all over them. Inverted crucifixes, human skulls wearing MAGA hats, and a random assortment of statues from video games collector's editions lined up the shelves.

In the center of the room was another, smaller room, closed off by a door that wouldn't budge. A strange symbol made out of crude lines was engraved on the door. Somehow, everyone felt that what hid inside was a secret that they would've regretted finding out.

Naturally, there was also a body.

Fat4all has died!

Night 4 Ends

"The Cult has won!"


And with that exclamation ended one of the voice's tales.

As if bragging about it, the ever more talkative voice had suddenly decided to share some insight into what had inspired the game they were playing here. Yes, that's how the voice described what was going on: a game.

If the voice was to be believed, those tales were being read off of an online message board. They all featured similar set-ups: players were assigned random roles prior to the start of the game, and then they lied their way through discussions with the others in conformity with their respective roles. By mere chance, some ended up as part of a faction of villains, and were forced to kill in order to survive.

Before the 11 invitees left could ask any questions, the voice finally decided it was time to move on with the procedures.

But now, the players, who had become accustomed to their roles over the past few days, were suddenly extremely uncomfortable. Were they playing pretend? Why? With few exceptions, they hadn't even talked to each other before arriving at the Mansion. They were just regular people.

The two new bodies added to that confusion. The woman was still a complete stranger, but everyone knew the man. Not because he was remarkable, but because they saw him every morning at the bakery, where he worked. And there he was, lifeless, clutching a first aid kit close to his chest.

B-Dubs has died!

Apparently everyone had spent the night too busy trying to cope with conflicting thoughts about their own identity.

But that just meant that no one else had been released from this nightmare, and that those who remained weren't any closer to figuring out who or what had been playing them like fiddles.

No one has died!

As soon as the 10 invitees left exited the trance state they had been in, they noticed that a terribly loud humming noise dominated the new Room they were now in.

Night 6 Ends

He'd been watching the game unfold over the past week through a series of monitors. They had set up cameras all over the Mansion, revealing every angle of every Room.

Even though he'd witnessed over a dozen gruesome deaths through those monitors, he seemed completely comfortable - his legs resting over the table while he drank a cup of coffee. He gave off an air of levity.

Just as another assassination was taking place, he pondered about how easily he'd been able to execute his plan. Everything that had happened thus far had been accounted for in his original design. The key to all of it, he thought, was how perfect the selection of players was. They were all liars in their essence, and so they never hesitated when the time to lie to save their own lives - even to themselves. Some were told they were part of the "mafia" - and so they spent their nights in subterfuge. One faked an entire persona to try and lead others to certain death. Another was even able to help others with a mere first aid kit paired with the suggestion that they were actually a doctor.

Ever since that fateful day, he'd been focused on honing his skills. He was afraid of becoming complacent. And after spending all that time with the most powerful figures in the world - and, therefore, with the biggest liars in the world -, he wanted to test his theories on a group of common liars, of the kind that you can find anywhere.

It was working.

One of his assistants finally interrupted his train of thought: "It's about time to wake them all up, mister B--"
