They're the most iconic villains in the manga (in a lot of manga?) and half the reason are the red clouds lol.

Remember Sasuke didn't realized he could be touched until he met a black person

Can't say I blame anybody for wearing the black with red cloud design. Their look just oozes cool.

I got one in my closet right now lol
Simple yet recognizable design that low-key carried most of the Akatsuki members.

My favorite part is TikTok is having a video that has nothing to do with anime, but there's one dude wearing one of these coats or a stocking cap with the red cloud, in the background.

I dunno if I wanted to wear Shonen villain merch I'd rather roll with a dMP shirt (Devil Making Plant)

It really is something seeing Naruto become such a massive pop culture hit, and I have absolutely no familiarity with it. I didn't even know this was about Naruto until I saw the pictures in this thread.

Part of it is the coat is something that simultaneously works as a uniform, but also as kinda casual wear. It's just a coat, yet something that immediately marks out a particular group - seen as pretty badass by the series' fandom - while being not too shabby in doing so. Being a shared uniform too, it eases off a full cosplay requirement - you just pretend to be part of the expanded group, rather than a specific character. Fits into a really nice niche for itself really

Couldn't be me it always looks a bit cringe to me, but I'm not a Naruto fan. I was a bleach kid growing up.

The Akatsuki cloak design just works not too over complicated but manages to stand out.

From the anime perspective Naruto pre time skip the Akatsuki was that group the silhouette, clandestine meeting room. You knew these people had some menacing power levels.

Never rocked the cloak myself, but I was collecting the rings at one point. I think I was only a couple short from the full set.

I think it also helps that the design just color coordinates well with dark skin. Frankly looks better on black people than people who look more like the characters who actually wore it in the show

Never really watched the show. I kinda dig the look but, I feel like I see the headpiece out in public nowadays much more so than the actual outfit designs.

The nice trench coat uniform and the fact that you could still inject your own personal style like choosing where to wear that forehead protector makes the overall getup conformative and individualistic at the same time. Its an interesting mix. And we're not even touching the inherent cool factor of being associated with a powerful ninja faction.

My parents, who know nothing about anime, got me an Akatsuki hoodie for Christmas because my mom liked the way it looked.
