Picked up The Evil Within 2 in the Xbox Store sale for £25 and I haven't stopped playing it - it's fantastic.

Both are worth the money despite being a bit weaker than their predecessors. Enjoyed them, although best Bethesda games are Prey and Dishonored 2 :)

If I had worked on one of these titles, I'd feel so despondent walking into a store or logging online to see this :-/.

Great for the consumer, but discounts so soon really undervalue the sheer amount of hard work that went into these games.

I might agree with Wolfie , but dont know about Evil Within 2. Just started and seems to me that its a more polished and cohesive experience with pretty significant upgrade in visuals and performance.

If it wasn't for the fact that EB Games is going to be selling physical copies of Evil Within 2 for 50% off as well, I would have jumped on this deal.

Bought TEW2 at $24

Still kinda regret it, it's a fine game but very different from the original and I wanted just more of that

This is why no one buys Bethesda published games at full price

Yikes

I don't get this statement. The games you mentioned are on a major sale because they sold rather poorly. They are trying to entice the general public and us to choose their games over Shadow of War, Destiny and AC:O. This would be true of any game not just Bethesda. Skyrim is still the same price as last year. Same with DOOM.

Wolfenstein must not be doing well if it's already getting half priced sales

I mean, if you release a game that close to black Friday, this result shouldn't really be shocking.

Majority of new games, besides those made by Nintendo, usually drop to about $39 a couple months after release.

I think with moves like that Bethesda is digging their hole even deeper, much deeper. How can you build consumer trust in your products if you toss them out for half the price only weeks after release? Who in his right mind will buy Bethesda's next game on release day?

Bethesda's marketing is _the_ worst.

Seems like it at first, but sadly there are quite a few points that make the sequel the weaker game.

However, I would have to go into spoiler territory to explain it properly and therefore I won't. Regardless of that, both are still decent titles and just enjoy the ride.

TEW2 is a great game, one of my favorite survival horrors this gen, totally worth it for $30.

This is a early Black Friday deal that's all, both games will be at full price next week.
Both games are underperforming but not confirmed bombas, the 50% discount is just to have one advantage against major franchises like AssCreed,Destiny 2 etc.
What else do you expect them to do?
Edit: I agree about the lack of marketing, more with TEW2 than Wolfie2 though.

What I expect them to do?

To market their games much, much better? To release them at the right time? To show confidence in their games?

That would be a few pointers for starters. I'm personally absolutely not convinced, that "the era of single player games is over" like some people keep repeating currently. Bethesda's tanked games are often cited as the perfect example of that claim. I disagree. (At least for now, maybe I see this differently in couple of years.) I think the reason all their games bomb is their utter incompetence when it comes to making good decisions in general, specifically when to release their games and how to advertise/market them.

It is better in some aspects, but I found TEW1 lot more imaginative and unpredictable overall, which made me enjoy it more.

Wolfeinstein 2 marketing was excellent which makes it much more disappointing. In TEW2 case i think they were hoping for the release date (Friday the 13th) to help by bringing the fans of the first game and horror fans alike.

Dishonored and Prey got their prices slashed quickly too. DOOM can be bought for 10 or under, new. Death to the Outsider got a super low price release.
I'm not complaining, but these quick price slashes just cultivates an unhealthy "wait for budget purchase" mentality with their games.

Absolutely!

They basically keep teaching this to their potential customers, over and over: "Don't ever buy our games on release day! Just wait a couple of weeks and you'll save a lot of money, trust us!"

This is how the game retail industry works by and large. If a game does not sell, you better lower the price to engage people right away before you get lost in the sea of games. Especially for SP linear experiences. My point was that their sales strategy is no different than most of their competitors. All the games I listed above are also on sale both digital and at B&M. The game industry has taught us that waiting always pays in the long run, unless you only play Nintendo games but even then they go on sale as well.

I personally felt TEW2's open world exploration presented some very nice unexpected elements where you really didn't know what you were going to find if you followed a radio signal.

Not as quickly and agressive as Bethesda published stuff though. They in particular have a notorious reputation of doing this, thats the issue.
Once you have a reputation of slashing prices quickly, people will wait in order to not be burned.

Don't disagree, I liked that aspect too. But still, most of the game was spent in similar looking environments, TEW1 felt lot more varied in that regard.

If I loved Resident Evil 4 and liked The Evil Within's style and horror but really disliked its mediocre imitation of RE4's gameplay, is EW2 better/worth it? The gameplay seems like it's smoother and responsive in 2.

Does it still have that "oh crap, running out of bullets, need to run away, they're right behind me, better make these shotgun rounds count" intensity?
