Agree 100%. My wife and I get so much shit because she's the "bread winner" and I'm a stay at home husband. She is definitely way more vocal than me. We're also best friends and some people at just baffled by how we can spend so much time together. We even do matching outfits sometimes and I love it. We're huge dorks, but she's supposed to be the ole ball and chain, women amirite? It's so archaic. I admire her so much.

Neither of us should be seen as "lesser" as a result.
I was with you until matching outfits.

Unless you're in your 80s of course.

Literally the only things i know about this Terry Crews person is that he's connected to Crackdown somehow and that everytime there's a thread about him he's spitting hot fire. Seems like a cool guy.

Masculinity is fine, people just need to stop being dicks and threat all members of society with a certain amount of respect and consideration, regardless of whatever box they fit in.

Balancing both masculine and feminine personality is healthy. Obsessing one over the other is not.

Terry Crews has been extremely vocal about toxic masculinity, going as far as to write a book about it.
He's a man of many talents, including painting.
He definitely has his head screwed on straight and has never stopped using his fame to promote causes he deems worthy. Dude isn't just out there selling Deadpool 2, dude is out there trying to impress upon the world how "traditional" expressions of masculinity are deleterious to a respectful, egalitarian society. A most admirable man.

Suppose it's how people define it. I agree, being masculine is fine, just as long as you're not also not a misogynistic prick as well. Don't treat women like shit and treat them as any other human being. It's really not hard.

There's an example of what a real man should be. I'm liking this guy more and more as time goes on. He needs to keep doing what he's doing.

Everytime i see Crews in a film or reading his personal views on life, i know he is on the right side of things. Crews is one of those celebs, both internationally and nationally famous, who always remained true to themselves, and aren't acting like they are live on a pedastal.

Plus Crews loves gaming so how can he ever be wrong :) Fantastic dude all way around, like Keanu Reeves.

he recalls going to strip clubs and bristling at the women who talked about their personal lives because they were "becoming a human before my eyes."

It's great that he addressed this. The way people talk about sex workers, especially online, is particularly gross. Everybody's getting off to them while looking down on them and it's so fucking hypocritical.

except for all that anti-masturbation and anti-porn stuff he preaches
This is a poor, unfair misreading of his words. Do better.

https://www.channel24.co.za/Gossip/...-losing-his-wife-over-porn-addiction-20180328

"When we got married we started a family and she put everything on hold for 20 years. There were times I'd have three jobs at the same time and she'd be like 'I've got the kids, I'm taking care of the home', and all during the successful career, I've got an addiction to pornography," he shared.

He managed to keep it secret from his wife for a long time, but the truth finally came out. "When I first confronted Terry, we had it out! He told me about the prostitutes, he told me about the porn and I said, 'You know we're done right?'" Rebecca said on the show.

"The hardest part was knowing that someone I loved, respected and trusted was nothing like I thought he was. And everything was a lie," she continued.

Feeling betrayed and lied to, Rebecca threw Terry out of the house, until he realised he had to get help – not just for their marriage, but for himself too.

"He made the commitment to get better, whether or not he got us back," said Rebecca.

"I didn't go to rehab to get my wife back, I went there because I needed to be a better person," Terry concurred.

Really nigga, that's what you got from that

Lmao okay

I love this idea I don't think women are human because of my views on the word bitch, fuck outta here nigga
Replace "women" with "black people" and "bitch" with the "n-word".

It's just as offensive to women, but considering you are only 18 you probably don't have much (if any) experience with women.

Crews is correct, masculinity can be a cult and it can be toxic. It isn't always and it doesn't need to be, there is value in masculinity just as there is value in femininity, but the part of masculinity that requires the rejection and hatred of femininity and anything that isn't stereotypically masculine needs to be purged.

Not necessarily, I understand what he's saying but masculinity is also a pretty open ended term with a lot of personal definitions in both the positives and negatives.
? Notice the "can be" part of the statement. It doesn't say "is." It's like saying "Star Wars fans can be obsessive." It's not saying they necessarily all are, but some manifestations of Star Wars fandom can be obsessive. If that makes sense, would you agree with someone saying that "masculinity can be a cult?"

Please note, Terry said "masculinity can be a cult." Would you disagree with that statement?

Yeah the thread has a bit of a confusing title. The quote is different then OP made it sound.

But I agree with Terry, and you can find evidence of it all over some particularly awful subreddits. I do think there is fraction of people that want to overcorrect and make masculinity in general a bad thing, though.

Agreed. And I really like the fact that he absolutely acknowledges his past behaviour and regularly shows that's it's something you can change about yourself.

Saying "look, I've been disrespectful in the past, but then I got better" is pure, honest fire.

You've been asked to stop using gendered slurs by women on this board. Why is it so important for you to say "bitch"?

That wasn't the argument at all, but okay

I had a problem with people really tryna say that Nigga bitch and the f word are similar, especially in the day and age where bitch, a word rooted in misogny, has been turned into other meanings depending on the context, but this ain't the thread for that

Connecting with a woman on a personal and emotional level, be it friends or lovers.

That is one of the most masculine things you can do.

Masculinity itself is, when properly managed, a force for good.

Being extremely macho and acting like you don't have feelings etc is taking it to far.

I think that difference is important. Blanket statements serve no purpose.
