After a lot of confusion and miscommunication coming from both Bandai Namco and the journalists reporting the infos, we finally got a clear-up from Bandai Namco UK about how Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum'n'Fun / Drum Session will be sold.

Note: this only concerns Europe.

So, Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum'n'Fun is releasing both physically & digitally on Switch, with the drums also being brought over. However, the PS4 version will be digital only, and it doesn't sound like they're going to bring over the drums specific to that version (although I assume you can use the Switch ones on PS4, they're just drums).

As expected:

Switch drums work on the PC without problems just like the PS4 ones do (tested in OSU Taiko).

Switch drums do not work on PS4.
PS4 drums do not work on switch.

The switch drum is much better than the PS4 drum out of the box.
I still have to check how they compare to the modded PS4 ones I have.

Well that's me definitely getting it now, need those drums

I'm assuming they'll be USB too. Does OSU accept these ones? That'd make them even more worth it

I didn´t expect them to maintain all the songs from the japanese release.

This is the Digimon Next Order for the Vita all over again, isn't it? They'll confirm, deny, reconfirm, cancel, release seven press releases and then we'll still be surprised at launch.

Yeah but, they're just USB drums. I'm only speculating and haven't checked yet but I don't see how and why they'd lock that stuff per platform.

you need an adapter, it won't work on ps4 out of the box

fortunately the switch drum is much better than the ps4 one, so if we had to only get one of them this is the better option

Rock band instruments were just USB guitars/drums but you couldn't use them cross platform. I think it's best to assume they won't work and be hopeful. I can't think of any time that USB controllers have worked cross platform.

NA gets shafted yet again. Is it some regulatory/cost thing that makes the region less desirable for physical releases?

I've been thinking of importing the PS4 version with drums, if the Switch drums were to work with the PS4 that could be a cheaper alternative.

What the fuck. What's the point of even releasing the game when there's no affordable way to get the drums? Game's destined for failure being released in such a sorry state.

Wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the same thing Bandai Namco UK just did and announce the drum. I'm fairly certain that they saw the backlash on why they weren't including the drum so they acted on it.

I hope there is an option to buy just the drums

How many songs are covers?

I remember getting the Vita version and was bummed Cruel Angel's Thesis wasn't original.

Ace! Though a bit tricky for someone just wanting the digital version of the game, still I'm glad they're bringing the drum over

Is the Switch version also physical in NA? I thought I heard it would be digital only in the announcement thread.

Excellent news. I suspect Nintendo Europe pulled some strings to get the physical release - I think they've done similar things with other games. Was expecting a stripped back release with the music so surprised the track lists are the same as the Japanese version. Definitely going to support the Switch release.
