Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a free-to-play (F2P) turn-based combat game, released on November 24, 2015, for Android and iOS, based in the Star Wars universe. Players unlock and develop characters (toons) and ships from multiple eras, build teams, and participate in battles at locations throughout the galaxy across a variety of modes.

UMGeSdgk.gif

Gameplay consists of RPG-lite battles, pitting your team of up to 5 characters (and a 6th "borrowed" toon in some modes), against CPU-controlled opponents, which can be drawn from either fixed event lists, or from other players' chosen teams. Each toon has their own suite of abilities, designed around their respective character in the Star Wars films and other media. These abilities activate either individual, or group, buffs and debuffs, as well as combat effects and synchronizations with select other characters. Some of these effects are passive and will trigger automatically based on the character, your team, and your opponents.

Characters are unlocked (activated) via character shards, which can be acquired via daily free packs in the Store, using crystals to purchase them, or completing missions in the various game modes. Once activated, a character can be progressed through 7 "grades" and 85 levels, again via the collection of character shards, training droids, and the spending of the in-game currency "credits", which you acquire via participating in the various game modes. The character abilities, mentioned earlier, can be levelled up via "Ability Materials", which can be acquired via gameplay. Omega and Zeta Materials are harder to come by, but provide the most significant increases to character abilities.

One of the positive traits of Galaxy of Heroes is that a F2P player can acquire characters and progress through the game without a paywall to stop them, although those who decide to purchase crystals (or directly spend money) will progress much faster, while the F2P player will need to grind daily to get what they want.

Characters can also be improved via Gear and Mods. Each character has specific Gear requirements, and usually said Gear has to be assembled by accumulating Gear Salvage (shards), although some pieces can be acquired outright if you have enough crystals. Gear itself also has levels, with higher-level gear providing larger bonuses to your character attributes.

QqXo8Ny.jpg

Mods were introduced in July 2016, some 7+ months after the launch of the game. Immediately controversial, and quickly scaled back in their impact, Mods are still a very important part of the game. Available to higher-level players, Mods can applied to a character individually, or in predetermined groups to gain bonuses, that directly impact the character attributes. As with Gear, Mods have their own level and rarity, and can be levelled up via in-game credits. For example, Speed Mods are very desirable, as they can impact which characters (or an entire team) "shoots first" in a battle, which can decide the entire outcome. Mods can be acquired via Mod Challenges and Mod Battles, as well as via Events, and purchased with crystals.

Light Side/Dark Side Battles: Use your Light or Dark characters to proceed through multiple levels against AI-controlled teams. In these modes you can borrow a character from one of your Allies to assist your team of five. Completing the Normal mode unlocks a Hard mode, which in turn can provide Character and Ship shards on a daily basis.

Squad Arena: The PvP-light mode, where your squad of five selected characters (Light/Dark, or a mix of both) does battle with squads of other players, though the action on their end is AI-controlled. With victories come ascension on the leaderboard, which in turn affects the amount of Credits, Crystals, and Squad Arena tokens you receive daily.

Cantina Battles: Your five character squad (L/D/mix) versus an AI-controlled squad, with wins bringing Credits, Ability Materials, Sim tickets (so you can automatically run nodes that you have completed successfully in the past), Character shards, and Cantina Battle Tokens (which in turn provide unique Character and Ship shards when accumulated).

Galactic War: A daily run of 12 stages, where your chosen squads of five battle against AI opponents. As your characters are defeated you can subsitute other characters from your collection, or run sets of squads that you have pre-built yourself. Earn Credits, Crystals, Ability Materials and Galactic War Tokens, which provide unique Character and Ship shards).

Challenges: Player squads of five characters (L, D, mix) and participate in special challenges against AI squads that are only available on specific days. Some challenges limit the selection of player squad members, so building an appropriate squad is important. Each challenge provides its own specific rewards, across multiple tier levels, and this is one of the main ways to accumulate Ability Materials, Credits, Training Droids, and specific Equipment Shards in the game. Once you have 3-starred a Tier successfully, you can use Sim Tickets to automate further attempts.

taLKxto.jpg

Ships were the first major addition to GoH, debuting on November 22, 2016, and have become a love it/hate it element of the game. Ships are much like characters, in that they can be levelled up to 85, and have 7-stars of grade, and have unique abilities that can be improved. However there are no Mods for ships, rather the level and gear of the characters piloting those ships impacts the overall power and capability of the ship itself. So for example, you would want to boost your Biggs Darklighter character as much as possible, so that he in turn could improve Biggs Darklighter's X-Wing.

Ship combat is managed by one of three Fleet Commanders each that command a capital ship for one of three factions - Admiral Ackbar (Rebel Alliance), Grand Moff Tarkin (Galactic Empire) and Mace Windu (Galactic Republic).

Some view ships as a distraction to an already-demanding game, but ships have also been tied to Zeta Materials somewhat, so having a capable fleet can also benefit your characters. Ships can participate in Ship Challenges (battles to acquire materials for your ships and upgrade your capital ships), and Fleet Arena, which is similar to Squad Arena, but you are earning daily ship tokens and upgrade materials. Ships also have their own dedicated store, which uses the aforementioned ship tokens to purchase ship shards, as well as select character shards, character gear, and the infamous Zeta ability materials.

5QpGTkG.jpg

Territory Battles are the next big addition to GoH, and are expected to arrive any day now. The developer describes Territory Battles as "an epic, multi-phase battle, pitting the entire collection of characters and ships of every guild member against a progressively challenging, living battlefield." Progression is shared equally across the Guild, with the key being total Guild participation, and each Guild Member having as many characters unlocked, levelled, and equipped to participate. New modes, such as Platoon Missions, will unlock special abilities (ie. the Ion Cannon) to assist in the overall campaign. The initial Territory Battles will take place on Hoth, and several new characters (Captain Han Solo, Rebel Office Leia Organa, and Hermit Yoda) will be introduced with this game mode.

Like other games of this genre, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes features many events. Most events require specific Characters, or at least Characters related to a certain faction to participate. These events have different Rewards depending on their Type. There are those events which happen on a weekly basis, which are aimed at giving you an oportunity to enhance your characters with some extra resources. Then there are more rare events which reward you with special characters.

These "Legendary Events" are themed around the specific characters and require you to own Characters related to them. Two examples are the "Grand master's Training" as well as "The Emperor's Demise" which give you an opportunity to collect Grand master Yoda and Emperor Palpatine respectively. As the name implies, Yoda's event sees your Jedi squad undertake his training and as a reward you can unlock him yourself. Meanwhile in Palpatine's event you have to take a team of Rebels and kill the Emperor, to unlock him yourself. For these events you get rewards equivalent to your squad's Star Rating, for example a full squad of 6-star Jedi is required to earn enough shards for a 6-star Yoda. These characters unlock at 5-stars.
There are currently two more of these events, which are not on a regular schedule: acquiring Admiral Thrawn using a Phoenix team from Star Wars Rebels, and lastly an event centered around R2-D2 for which you need Empire Characters.

Sometimes new characters also get "marquee events", in which you are introduced to these new characters by using an upgraded version yourself, with some advice given during the battles. If you fully complete a marquee event you usually can unlock the character at a low star level to get you started with them.

Lastly a new type of event was recently introduced, "The Hero's Journey', which lets you replay some events from Episode 4, and through it lets you unlock "Commander Luke Skywalker", aka Cloud City Luke. For this event you need to own the protagonists of A New Hope, as it will be your own Characters in the main roles.

RdAHWuV.jpg

As mentioned earlier, Guilds are required to participate in territory battles, but they play a large role themselves. Your Guild will be your own central community with a guild wide chat and announcement board. Guilds consist of at max 50 members. The members can help each other out through the "gear exchange" which means that if you only lack those last 3 pieces of gear to the next gear level, you can ask your fellow guild mates to send you some pieces on a 24 hour timer. A large part of Guild gameplay is cooperating to take down Raid Bosses. Furthermore just being part of a Guild, and completing daily Guild Challenges will earn you Guild Tokens which can be spent to unlock special Characters, as well as buying some pieces of Gear.

oKraMz2.jpg

Raids are the current main challenge for Guilds to complete. There are currently 2 Raids in the Game, each consisting of 4 different Phases. Completing a Raid will earn you rare Gear, as well as Gear exclusive to that Raid. Completing a Raid on the highest difficulty will also earn you shards for Raid exclusive characters. The two current Raids are fighting the Rancor from Jabba's Palace through which you can earn Han Solo shards, and Taking down a separatist AAT Tank, which will give you shards for General Kenobi.

Guild

We have an active Guild "NeoGAFFI Sticks" (name change imminent). We welcome anyone but it would be appreciated if you are active and follow our rules, which are both in the guild description, as well as in the headline of our chat. Just leave us a message here in the OT if you want to join up.

I don't think there are any other mobile games like it quality wise. Maybe I have some SW bias, but the F2P content is pretty decent, if you are patient enough.

Hope I'll be able to get my Phoenix Squad up to snuff for 7* Thrawn next time around. Didn't expect it again so soon.

Also any chance for an invite to the discord?

Should be easy for me to pick up Palp and Thrawn this month. With that I'll be ready for R2 next go around.

...Then panic farm Resistance or First Order for whatever the movie event is?

Yeah I'm hoping to finish off Thrawn. Hopefully him being back so quickly means he's going into regular rotation - I'm being stingy with Phoenix gear because they need so much valuable stuff. I've been working on FO and Res, on the assumption that the new movie event will need Res with BB8, who needs FO.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes players on Android that are looking to unlock or upgrade Rey (Scavenger) can do so now by purchasing Google Play gift cards available at retail locations around the world online HERE. Each Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes account can redeem this offer up to three times.

I hate this company.

I wish people would suggest/inform newer players how important it is to buy Jawa Engineer shards in the guild shop. Ranking him up to 5* from nothing just to continue to the majority of important mod challenges is such a long process. Sucks how much he can hold you back in the grand scope of the game.

I don't know why I am still playing this fucking game sometimes. Can't really do any of the guild stuff because I only play casually, but I can't really progress at a substantial level without being in a guild with raid requirements and stuff. There are virtually no casual guilds where I can just join and contribute without needing a raid schedule.

Unmasked Kylo Ren and First Order Special Forces Tie Pilot announced as new characters. They look like nice additions to the FO team and DS ships. Confirmed to be marquee event characters as well, so expect to have them at only 3* for a while.

Some footage and breakdown.

Text of skills:
Kylo Ren (Unmasked)
Basic: Aggressive Strike:

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to target enemy and inflict Tenacity Down for 2 turns. If the target was already debuffed, and it is Kylo's turn, he gains Taunt for 1 turn.

Special 1: Halt:

FINAL TEXT: Dispel all buffs on target enemy and Stun them for 2 turns. Kylo recovers 10% Health and gains Taunt for 1 turn. This attack can't be Evaded or Resisted. (Cooldown 3)

Special 2: Focused Rage

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to target enemy and recover Health equal to the damage dealt. If the target is Stunned, deal double damage. (Cooldown 3)

Leader: Merciless Pursuit

FINAL TEXT: [ZETA] First Order allies have +40% Critical Damage and +30 Speed. When a First Order ally scores a Critical Hit, they gain 20% Turn Meter. When a First Order ally gains a status effect, they recover 5% Health and 5% Protection.

Unique: Scarred

FINAL TEXT: [ZETA] When Kylo takes damage, he recovers 8% Health and a random First Order ally who doesn't have it gains Advantage for 2 turns. Kylo has +50% Counter Chance, doubled while he has Taunt. Kylo takes reduced damage from Percent Health damage effects and gains Taunt for 1 turn at the start of each encounter.

First Order SF TIE Pilot
Basic: Reciprocation

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to target enemy and inflict Defense Down for 2 turns. Then, if the target has Defense Down, gain Advantage for 2 turns.

FINAL TEXT: Deal Special damage to all enemies and inflict Defense Down for 2 turns on each Critically Hit enemy. First Order allies gain Speed Up for 2 turns. (Cooldown 4)

Special 2: Oppressive Burst

First Order SF TIE Fighter

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to target enemy. If this attack scores a Critical Hit, inflict Target Lock for 2 turns. This attack has +10% Critical Chance.

Special 1: Double Offensive

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to all enemies with a 35% chance to remove 20% Turn Meter. Target Lock: Turn Meter removal is doubled and can't be Resisted.

Special 2 (Crew Ability): Concussion Missile

FINAL TEXT: Deal Special damage to target enemy, inflict Ability Block for 1 turn, and gain 20% Turn Meter. Additionally, call a random ally to assist. If that ally is First Order, grant them Advantage for 2 turns. This attack ignores Protection.

FINAL TEXT: Deal Physical damage to target enemy and Stun them for 1 turn if they have more than 50% Turn Meter. Otherwise, gain Advantage for 2 turns.

I got a few more days but Palp's 7th Tier is gonna be rough. Phoenix squad (Chopper instead of Sabine), all gear level 8, level 75, random maxed health mods (only mod category I have done).

Every single one of these guys requires like 100 stun guns to reach GL9!

Edit: Nvm that was super easy, bring on Thrawn, then R2, then CLS

As it hasn't been posted here yet, Territory Wars are coming VERY soon, as well as a dark side territory battle. There is also a pretty big update today adding a lot of QoL features, I'd recommend checking out the following links:

Any advice on Thrawn tier 7? Running G10 Ezra, G9 Hera and Chop, and gear 8 Kanan and Zeb and can't beat it. Got down to 4 vs Thrawn and he wiped everyone.

The selection of possible squads is huge, and it depends on what you want to get into the most (pve, pvp, guild raids).
There is one completely overpowered character in the game at the moment, commander luke skywalker who we usually just call CLS. He is incredibly versatile and incredibly powerful in every single game mode, so I'd recommend focusing on getting him for the next time the event comes back.
You will need : Luke Skywalker (Farmboy) (you can farm him in cantina battle 1-B), Old Ben ( farmable in cantina 2-F), Stormtrooper Han as well as Princess Leia ( both farmable in the arena store for arena currency). Lastly you will need R2D2, which you can only acquire in his event for which you need 5 empire units at 7-stars. One good recommendation for a strong empire character is Palpatine, who you can get in an event for having 5 7-star Rebel units.
Having the four characters necessary for the Luke event will be helpful for getting the emperor, which then in turn helps unlock R2, and then in the last step Luke. Another empire unit you might want to get is the Tie Fighter Pilot as he is very fast and deals a lot of damage. Other than that just fill out the teams with whoever you can get easily.

Keep in mind this is just my recommendation and it might be another 6 months until the luke event is back, but starting to farm sooner rather than later and constantly working towards a goal helps with the long long grinds.

Phoenix Squad is the best for new players, 100%. With this team you will have early and easily accessible nodes/shipments to farm them in. They are also Rebels, so they will unlock Thrawn (Extremely powerful) and Palpatine. Which will give you a great start to a strong Empire team to work on R2. Kanan/Ezra are Jedi as well, which will be needed for Yoda. They are also fairly good when you start raids. There are better options once you get into Zetas but Phoenix squad is just a great starting point.

Thanks for the tips!
Yea I'm still early on so no 7 stars yet. I was thinking about Phoenix squad just because I like the show and Hera's leader ability seems cool.
Have Hera from the Cantina battles and am trying to up my squad rank so I can start buying Kanan shards.

Hey, the problem is that we are currently full, and our inactives are not inactive long enough for us to kick then... yet. Just in case we want to clean out our roster a bit I went ahead and asked for you two anyways.
Thanks I really appreciate it!

Should I remain guildless for now for whenver a spot opens?

Thanks for the info Xypher. I'm probably too low a level to be helpful anyways, but let me know when a spot opens and by then hopefully I'll have stronger characters.

I asked just in case, but yeah, we have rules in place to make getting kicked fair, and it'll be at least three weeks until a spot opens up, unless someone unexpectedly leaves. I'll make sure to post it here if a spot does open up, but getting into any guild, even temporarily, and running raids for rewards is better than being guildless. Worst case scenario a spot opens up in three weeks and you just can just leave your current guild if you want to join ours, but you might still have at least gotten some rewards in the "waiting time".

Thanks for asking for us! I'll join another in the mean time and keep an eye on the thread. Is there a discord I can get invited too? I understand if it's guild only.

Not that I want to be that guy but there are a bunch of people in different time zones who effectively only get to do damage and have a chance of earning rewards every second raid. So when we always seem to have people jumping the gun (and it seems to me to be the same people fairly constantly), I'd really like to see a zero tolerance policy.

From the posts above, we have people who'd like to come and join us so if we have members not prepared to follow the rules, can we dump them out and get new members in please?

It's really annoying for me to see damage on the HATT, when I'll be in bed and asleep by the time it starts and likely ends. One of the two players is already on a warning for this round of the Pit and the other was on a final warning for Pit about a month ago as they never bothered to read chat or announcements.

If it would help, I'm in Europe (Ireland) and I'd be happy to help look after starting raids for this time zone and keeping track of anyone who gets a warning if we are to keep up a warning system. Happy to be a part of any solution we might come up with.

On a much lighter note, good work on the RO Leia - much more of us able to earn shards now. Unlocks maybe even next time around :)

Thanks

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for all the tips for newcomers. I've been playing for a little over a week, and they've helped give me some better direction over the past few days since I saw them.

Here's my own newbie tip, since I just discovered it today: Retreating from a Galactic War battle resets everything to the state it was in before you started that battle. In other words, as long as you retreat before your entire squad wipes, you get unlimited tries to beat each battle. I'm annoyed about the runs I was unable to finish before I realized this.

Another thing worth mentioning for any new Android players: Right now there is a promotion that gives you a free Rey for purchasing Google Play gift cards. You can get a 7-star for buying a $50 card, 5-star for $25, and 4-star for $10 (all USD, and the minimum dollar amount might actually be lower, but what I wrote is sufficient. Other currencies may have different cutoffs.) The funds don't need to be used on this game. In fact, I only decided to try this game because the reward popped up while registering a card I was using for something else. Needless to say, having a free 7-star from the get-go can be really helpful even if it will still take a long time to level all the abilities and gear.

Also, since it's being discussed, I'd love to be added to the guild waiting list, even if you don't anticipate any openings for a while. I joined the first recommended guild that showed up with a decent number of players, and I've been pretty disappointed by the lack of participation. On the one hand it's nice that I can get high contribution rankings in raids and activities even though I am a new player, but on the other hand the raids take forever to finish and the activities never progress past tier 1. It would be great to join a guild that has been active for a while and that I can expect to stay active in the future.

I understand the frustration, but a zero tolerance policy is too harsh for the Guild. I've been playing this game half asleep before and selected the wrong option, or did something really dumb, and if that had been a Pit Raid or HAAT, I would be out of the Guild with zero tolerance.

So in discussion with other Guild members, and based on our previous Guild rules, here are the updated Guild rules.

Heroic Rancor Pit Raid: Only ZERO DAMAGE attacks for first 24-hours, to get you on the board in case you miss the main attack. After 24 hours, attack at will, but be aware that we normally take down the Rancor within an hour of starting. ***EARLY ATTACKS that result in more than ZERO DAMAGE in the first 24-hours will result in a WARNING in in-game chat. A second instance will result in REMOVAL from the GUILD.***

Heroic AAT Raid: Only ZERO DAMAGE attacks for first 24-hours, to get you on the board in case you miss the main attack. After 24 hours, attack at will, but know that we will take down the AAT within several hours, perhaps longer based on the day/time of the Raid. ***EARLY ATTACKS that result in more than ZERO DAMAGE in the first 24-hours will result in a WARNING in in-game chat. A second instance will result in REMOVAL from the GUILD.***

Territory Wars: The new Guild v Guild Territory Wars are broken into three phases, a Preview Phase (where each Guild member joins the event), a Setup Phase (where defensive squads and fleets are deployed), and an Attack Phase (where our Guild attacks the defenses of the opposing Guild and attempts to take them down first). SIGNING UP FOR THE PREVIEW PHASE IS VITAL (regardless of how much you plan on participating in the other phases), AS EVERY SIGNUP BRINGS THE ENTIRE GUILD CLOSER TO A BETTER REWARDS TIER (for win or loss). AS SUCH, IT WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH GUILD MEMBER TO SIGN UP IN THE PREVIEW PHASE WINDOW (24 HOURS). Failure to sign up will result in a WARNING in in-game chat. A second instance will result in REMOVAL from the GUILD. We will endeavor to remind everyone regarding the preview phase for each Territory War in the in-game chat, the Discord, and in this thread going forward. If you will be unable to access the game during the 24-hour Preview Phase for any Territory War, please let us know on the Discord, or respond in this thread, or DM me.

Of course, we would prefer if every Guild Member participated actively in all phases of Territory Wars, and all parts of the game, but we recognize that our membership is global, and life happens.

And as always, if you plan to be away from the game for an extended period, please contact us via the Discord, or this thread, or DM me. Absences that result in no activity for an extended period (currently 4 weeks), without an explanation, will result in removal from the Guild, as there are others who would like to join and contribute on a regular active basis.

Checking in.

The 24hr rule is fine as long as you remember to put your name on the board i forget loads.

No chance of getting new rey but ready for CLS when he arrives.

Doing well with Phoenix so far. Have Ezra and Hera at 5 stars, Chopper at 4, with Zeb and Kanan at 3. All at Gear level 6. Doing well in arena with them. As someone who only started playing within the last week and a half, it was great to know which units to focus on first.
Made top 20 in my shard the past few days.

A new TERRITORY WAR has just been started.

GUILD MEMBERS: you have 21 hours and 42 minutes, as of this posting, to sign up.

REMINDER THAT SIGNUP FOR TERRITORY WARS IS REQUIRED.

***note that player level 65 is required for Territory Wars signup, so for any Guild members below that level (currently 3 members), you are exempt from the requirement***

Reminder that Territory War signup phase ends in 5 hours. All members level 65 and above are required to sign up.

Doing so benefits the entire Guild, and will result in better rewards for all.

The star wars hype got to me, and I reinstalled the game. Is there an ERA guild I can join?
