The new Splatoon DLC, Side Order, revealed in yesterday's Direct, seems to have left quite the impression on folks with its striking aesthetic. Most of the fanart focuses on the Octoling, but I think the imagery on a lot of these is impressive enough to share.

The depiction of the Octoling's skin tone seems pretty inconsistent.

I think it's pretty inconsistent in the trailer based on the various flashes of the protagonist we see. The 3D model looks like one of the middle-ground colors in terms of skin darkness. But also, this will probably be the same as every other Splatoon storyline character, where you can select some minor customization options, including skintone.

On-topic, I can't wait to dig into this part of the DLC. Octo Expansion was leaps and bounds above S2's vanilla campaign, and S3's vanilla campaign is already very solid. Really curious if they'll keep up with the racism parallels they established in Octo Expansion initially; I certainly hope they continue to explore it more.

The aesthetic/tone of that part of the trailer gives a really desaturated, foggy appearance. I'm guessing some of these are more literal approximations of how the character would look in the regular Splatoon world.

Don't underestimate the Splatoon fan community

The formative seniors of the "quite the fanart following" threads and managing to get that distinction a whole year ahead of the first game's launch when this was still an unproven IP, they're just built different

Splatoon's style is just too darn good. They have a complete mastery over their worldbuilding, in everything from the art style to the in-world bands & brands.

Oh, these are fantastic, thanks for sharing. I loved the art direction for the Octo Expansion and I have high hopes for Side Order.

Saw a little comic that really caught my eye, based on the fact that one of the images from the reveal trailer seems to be based on nuclear warning architecture.
