Thanks to the DBFZ DLC leak from earlier this year confirming the datamined list from late January (around the launch of DBFZ), we pretty much know who we're getting for DLC in the FighterZ Pass. And now that a few weeks have passed since the leaked list has been all but confirmed, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the chosen characters. Obviously Bardock & Broly have already been released for a few weeks now, but feel free to pass your opinion on how they turned out. As for me...
- Bardock [already out]
-
- Bardock is one of those characters who everyone expected to get in eventually. I didn't expect much from him in terms of his moveset, but I was pleasantly surprised in how he turned out. My only real disappointment is that they gave Bardock his Super Saiyan transformation from Episode of Bardock (something that I wish ASW completely ignored). Otherwise, he replaced 18 on my team until 17 drops.
-
- Broly [already out]
-
- Like Bardock, pretty much everyone expected Broly to get in (my best-case scenario would have been Kale instead of Broly, but I recognize that Broly is a fan-favorite, so I recognize that my desire was unrealistic). As for how he plays, he's more-or-less what I expected from him in that he's a huge character with a big hitbox & a shit-ton of super armor. Broly's not exactly my kind of character gameplay-wise, but he's been popping up on numerous teams online, so clearly ASW did something right (underwhelming intro animation aside).
-
- Vegito Blue [already released]
-
- For Vegito, it was more of a question of which form Vegito would get in the game than if Vegito would get in at all. And given that he'll be paired with Fused Zamasu, ASW going with Vegito Blue doesn't surprise me at all (in fact, I prefer it). My main curiosity is how Vegito will play. Given that Vegito already has a ton of moves to pull from (on top of the obvious Final Kamehameha for his Level 3), I'm sure he'll turn out at least decent.
- UPDATE: Vegito Blue ended up being more-or-less how I expected, having a mix of Z & Super moves for his moveset. What I didn't expect was Vegito having the
Captain SwordSpirit Excalibur as a Level 1 super, which I'm more than down for.

- Fused Zamasu [already released]
-
- Like Vegito Blue, I'm not surprised by Fused Zamasu's inclusion. Tournament of Power aside, Fused Zamasu was the last final boss for the pre-ToP sagas of Z & Super who was not already in the game. From a gameplay perspective, I'm not worried at all. Fused Zamasu has quite a bit of material to pull from to make him a unique choice. The real question now is if it'll be regular Fused Zamasu or Corrupted Fused Zamasu. While I would prefer the former, the latter would make sense given the leaked files for Trunks' Sword of Hope Dramatic Finish against Fused Zamasu. Either way, I'm looking forward to his inclusion.
- UPDATE: Based on what we've seen of his gameplay in the V-Jump leaks, I wonder if he's gonna end up being the Magneto or Nova of DBFZ with his flight cancels? If he has an 8-way air dash, that's a wrap.
- UPDATE 2: No 8-way air dashes, sadly, but Fused Zamasu still is one of the more technically-demanding & interesting characters in the game. He's no Bardock in terms of how good he is, but I do enjoy messing around with Zamasu's combos in the lab. Hopefully I can get him to a point where I can take him to locals.

- Base Goku (Saiyan Saga) [already revealed]
-
- Probably one of the most controversial inclusions in the pass, I've been dreading Base Goku's inclusion ever since the rumors first came out. And while I do recognize that there are ways to set Base Goku apart from the other Gokus (Kaio-Ken, Spirit Bomb, maybe the Power Pole if we're lucky), we still have the problem of having 3 Gokus (no, Black & Bardock don't count). So while I do see the gameplay potential for Goku from the Saiyan Saga, I would have easily chosen anyone else over him.
- UPDATE: No Power Pole, sadly, but we did get the Kaio-Ken & the Spirit Bomb. So yeah, Base Goku turned out more-or-less how I expected him to. Though how Kaio-Ken works in this game (gets stronger as more of your teammates die on you) is probably gonna make Base Goku a solid anchor character.
-
- Base Vegeta (Saiyan Saga) [already revealed]
-
- My thoughts on Base Vegeta are basically the same as Base Goku, though I'd imagine that Vegeta would have moves like the Dirty Fireworks & the Oozaru/Great Ape transformation.
- UPDATE: Looks like we didn't get the Oozaru transformation, & I'm not sure if Dirty Fireworks are in the game. But Base Vegeta seems to be pretty versatile, so I'd imagine that he'll get a decent amount of use both online & at tournaments.
-
- Android 17 (Ranger/DBS)
-
- The MVP
& the winner
-
- Cooler (Final Form)
-
- Of the non-canon movie characters, Cooler is one of the more popular ones from the lot (alongside the likes of Broly, who's already in the game, & Janemba). While he is a bit of an odd choice to pair with Ranger 17, I do recognize that he's a fan favorite with a decent bit of material to pull from. I'm not too crazy about his inclusion, but I don't hate that Cooler's coming either. Who knows, he could end up being a fun character that I pick up like I did for Bardock.
- UPDATE: The footage we got of Cooler is mostly what I expected (a big body character with a fair amount of damage), though he has some interesting options like the full-screen(?) kinda-projectile where he shakes the floor. Otherwise, neat, but nothing to make room in my team for.

- Lack of Female Fighters
- If you've been following my female fighters roster ratio thread, you'll know that DBFZ is literally ranked the worst amongst the current batch of fighting games in terms of how many ladies are in the roster compared to the entirety of the roster. While yes, this is probably due to Dragon Ball is lacking in ladies until recently, I still find it weird how they didn't at least put in one of the Tournament of Power ladies this season to go with Ranger 17. I understand wanting to save the majority of ToP characters for whatever the future holds for DBFZ (be it a 2nd season of DLC or a Revelator-esque sequel), but I'm sure just one other ToP character besides 17 wouldn't kill anyone. It also doesn't help that ASW is limiting their options with bullshit excuses for leaving out characters like Videl or Chi-Chi (the latter of whom could give OG Dragon Ball some solid representation).
- Too Many Saiyans
- We have Bardock, Broly, Base Goku, Base Vegeta, Vegito Blue, & Fused Zamasu (he's half Saiyan via Goku Black) in the FighterZ Pass. At this point, you might as well have called it the Saiyan Season Pass (guest starring 17 & Cooler). I get that the Saiyans are amongst the more popular characters of the lot & that the DLC has to sell, but throwing in someone like Master Roshi wouldn't have hurt anyone (plus Roshi's inclusion would allow DBFZ to have the entirety of Team Universe 7). I'd mention Whis as well, but he doesn't have that much to go on in terms of potential moves....unless ASW wants to borrow stuff from the Xenoverse games.
- No OG Dragon Ball Representation
- This may be a bit biased on my end since I love the shit out of OG Dragon Ball, but it not even getting one rep is a bit of a disappointment for me. Granted, Z & Super are more popular in the west, hence the focus on those two parts of the franchise in DBFZ. But it would have been cool to have characters like Chi-Chi, King Piccolo, or Tao Pai Pai in the roster. Even Master Roshi, even though he'd probably be in his DBS garb, would have been a cool inclusion (who would also complete the Universe 7 team in DBFZ).
