Sonic Frontiers will be a part of this for their global strategy:

I'm actually VERY curious about Sonic Frontiers' potential commercial performance in Japan, especially given the franchise's history with disparity between that area and western territory in popularity. When factoring the current Japanese marketing of Frontiers in particular up ti'll now with TGS (Korone, One Ok Rock collab, etc), it's certainly been an interesting approach! I don't remember Sega being this aggressive with previous 3D titles in comparison for a long time(?):

With TGS, the line for the Frontiers demo was so large they had to close it off lol:

Between hiring Korone as a Sonic ambassador, the advertising happening early, all the pre-order bonuses, getting popular J-rock bands to front the advertising, and even the concept of the game itself heavily taking from Breath of the Wild which was massive in Japan, you can definitely tell. The entire game feels like Sega's bid to make Sonic relevant to a Japanese audience.

Which probably seems to be working somewhat, given the pictures of TGS stations being closed due to massive lines.

They will impress me when Tails and Knuckles are playable in the mainline games. Otherwise its just more solo Sonic efforts

I honestly feel that having Korone Inugami as a brand ambassador was a good move on this part.

I'll be a little sad to no longer be able to rag on Sonic for being an inexplicable non-presence domestically though.

TIL Sonic wasn't that popular in Japan?
I think the Genesis ones might have done okay but I don't know where you'd really get those numbers. Sonic Adventure was one of the best selling Dreamcast games. After Sega got out of the console game Sonic completely fell off the map in Japan though, and it tends to sell absolutely miserable amounts there.

Gongaga
Splatoon crossover
Dragon Quest crossover
Pokémon crossover

You already got Sonic in Monster Hunter, now hit Japan's other giants

yeah. the game centers used to have sonic themed stuff on/in signage, UFO catchers, branded bags for prizes and stuff even in the bathrooms (i remember Sonic being for men and Amy being for wp,em back in the early 00s)
I see those Sonic and Amy signs in UK.

TBF, Sonic does show up in a few anime. Example:

Sega always puts in alot of effort into JP localizations of Sonic...even if the game sells a little amount.

So is Sonic going to go to the DragonBall well once again? I mean, he already becomes a super saiyan.

Good. I'll take the anime like story telling of old over what we've been been getting since Colors any day. Let Sonic be melodramatic, fight giant monsters, and get a bunch of different power ups.

Can't wait for Super Sonic to not be enough for the final boss of Frontiers so he has to take it up to the next level.

Sonic Frontiers is already at maximum capacity on the second day of TGS

I don't know if this will translate to actual success, but I believe this is the most interest Japan has shown towards Sonic in a while?

Definitely noteworthy. I'm pretty sure neither TSR or Forces had anywhere the success. Also, picture of Kishimoto and Iizuka:

I respect the fact that Kishimoto is rocking sweatpants.

Only a matter of time before she's a full-on guest character in one of the games.

Sonic: Like a Hedgehog from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio or even a Dragon Quest turn-based RPG game like BioWare's Sonic: The Dark Brotherhood

Japan
The second movie just came out there less than a month ago and it's already no longer playing at most theaters as far as I can tell, so… good luck.

I still doubt Sonic will be a noteworthy success in Japan. Character has never been there, and I don't think a game is going to change that nowadays. Focus should be on regaining trust in the West IMO.

Best of luck to SEGA. From the sounds of things, Frontiers is looking to be a pretty big splash at least judging by the lines at TGS needing to be shut down.

I am a little surprised they haven't done a Sonic Adventure 3 with Chaos Garden

They said they've thought it and it sounds like its what everyone wants

Hopefully they give it another chance soon

I know we have Sonic Prime coming out, but there should also be another Sonic anime to give the series a little more boost.

Prime on netflix so i doubt the show is gonna last that long. But I imagine paramount is gonna handle a lot of spin off material in the future because of the movie
