SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS INC. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and Group COO (Representative Director): Haruki Satomi; hereafter "SEGA SAMMY") will incorporate a new group brand logo as an initiative towards further growth of Sega Sammy Group going forward. The new group logo will be officially used starting from August this year.

Sega Sammy Group has been developing corporate/business activities with an aim to embody its mission of "continuing to create moving experiences." Furthermore, in order to achieve SEGA SAMMY's medium-term target, "Road to 2020," the Group is currently taking on the challenge of creating new business that accommodates social change and technological innovation, while working to strengthen and cultivate the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines Business, Entertainment Contents Business and Resort Business under the unified effort of the entire group.

The business environment has undergone significant changes since the business integration of SEGA and Sammy over a decade ago. Under such circumstances, our decision to create a new group logo was made as we had come to recognize the need for a new brand symbol demonstrating a future direction of Sega Sammy Group, departing from the current logo which represents the integration of SEGA and Sammy. We will aim for further growth of the Group by implementing the thoughts we have put together in the new brand logo in actual business activities.

I'd completely forgotten Sammy were with SEGA. Then again I can't remember the last game published/developed by Sammy was that I played. Last ones I did were during the PS2 era.

So we have capital letters mixed with sentence case (funny how the press release is happy to call them "Sega Sammy" so clearly it's not all that important to have Sega written in all caps), the two ms being merged together for no reason.

Yeah...

Sammy bought Sega more than 10 years ago so all the console games from that point were published under the Sega brand.

That's a bad logo. It has no idea or concept behind it, the combination of upper and lower case letters is confusing and the joined m's have no meaning.

Certainly more befitting of what Sega has become (by that I mean a terrible video game company). If you've ever wondered "what happened to Sega?" look no further than Sammy. Some would point to the end of the Dreamcast and there was certainly an exodus of talent from Sega when they got away from making consoles but the merger with Sammy is what truly killed the Sega we knew.

Not sure how I feel about the mixing of caps and lowercase.... or the combination of the 'm's in Sammy...

Why are the letters in SEGA slightly stairstepped like that?

Edit: oh they're not. Something about the E to the G looked like they're different heights on my phone for some reason .

Yeah, but let's be honest, no one gives two shits about the Sammy part.

Sega will still use their original logo as a subsidiary, just like Sammy use their own as a subsidiary. This is just for the holding company.

The previous logo was actually done pretty well. Seems like a change for the sake of changing it.

Lmao . We do know that in terms of ownership, it's the other way around?

We know everything because they put out public reports.

Sammy only provided (still provides) the pachinko cash to Sega, Sammy really had no philosophy in video game making that would clash with Sega. Sega continued to be Sega, especially in the business that Sega and Sammy share in common, which was amusement, arcade games in Sega's case.
