Literally decades in the making. Fully playable along with bug fixes and QoL improvements:

100% complete translation to English.
Bug fixes from the original Japanese, like some character portraits not being displayed
A healthy amount of original art, including a new font & title screen by combustocrat
Quality of Life improvements, which can be toggled via soft DIPs, but are enabled by default in US/EU mode, or disabled for JP mode.

- Choose between the Neo*Geo CD or the PS1/Saturn version of the elements system
- Improved potency of permanent stat boost items
- Improved potency of Repellent item (lowers encounter rate)
-Selectable alternate palettes. Hold D while pressing A when confirming any character selection until you hear a chime!

Amazing times we live in. If this is inappropriate, apologies, please lock

I remember when he first posted about working on this. It's been such a long time. Glad he finally got it done.

Playable only on neo geo CD, or can it work with PS1 and Saturn?
Would love to crack out my physical Saturn for this and soul hackers

If it was the Saturn version I might bite and go grab a copy of the game to patch but Neo-Geo CD only is neat but does nothing for me.

According to Wikipedia the NeoGeoCD version is superior:

  • The Neo Geo CD version has considerably more animation in the combat sprites than the PS and Saturn, including unique idle stances for each character and specialized death animations for monsters.
  • The Neo Geo CD version has more ornate and colorful menus, whereas the PS and Saturn versions have fairly blank, purple-and-green menus instead.
  • Motions in the Neo Geo CD version have a smoother look and feel than the others.

I mean, that's fine and dandy but I don't own NeoGeo CD hardware I do own a Saturn though. There in lies the problem.

I remember when I was really big into emulation around 2002 or 2003, I was so hyped about this.

I had given up about a translation a long time ago.

Respect. It's honestly a ton of work translating an RPG of all things.
Heard that the game is awesome so it might have been a worthy endeavour.
Love Samsho.

Tried starting this in Japanese a few months ago and the text was over my comprehension level, so I didn't get very far. Might check out the translation sometime!

Ah man, this is awesome. I remember seeing previews for this in Gamefan I think back in the day and wishing I could play it even though I'd never even touched a Samurai Showdown game. Mad respect to the work that went in to this.

Damn. That means there's hope for a hack for a playable aes/MVS version. I was able to play a few cd versions of the games on my neo sd pro. Too bad I told the system I had. Maybe someday.

Played the game on Saturn or at least the beginning cause i couldn't get anything lol.
But it's god tier pixel art right there with metal slug, and i remember feeling it was somewhat a distant neighbor of FFVI as a dark and dense atmospheric rpg.
It almost felt like the game was referencing it in its environment art and art direction sometimes actually.

Any of them good and translated?
I haven't personally played any of them, but from what I gather the answer is probably no on the "are they good" front, at least not on Famicom. Most of them are card-based. Some of them are translated, at least, should be able to find them on Romhacking Dot Net.

SNK should contact this guy and try to produce a commercial version of his work. I'd love to see a fan project get ported to consoles. More companies should do this with fan projects and let them have a cut of the money.

Been waiting for this since 1997 or whenever I first saw screenshots. Hope the translation makes its way to the Saturn or PS1 versions.
