So...wait. The executive ranks get a massive pay boost before the implosion? Am I understanding this right?

This is a pretty bad sign. Woof. Poor NIS...or at least, poor NIS employees, not the executives deploying their golden parachutes.

It sounds like the pay boost came AFTER the strike. They're basically going 'we're gonna die, so we might as well pay ourselves as much as possible before the company shuts down'.

If NISJ goes down does that mean NISA also goes down or can they stand on their own?

That sucks.

I hope a good company takes care of them if they go under, at least.

They need someone to swoop in and help them. I wonder what this means for Disgaea 4 Complete+, To All of Mankind, Labyrinth of Galleria, and whatever else is underway at NISJ.

And also how NISA will be able to get out of this should NISJ go under.

Wait what happened? I thought they were doing well with their games selling especially after the Switch came out.

Nintendo, pls buy disgaea

Nintendo is such a perfect fit IMO for NISJ or at least their creative team. Nintendo seemingly has been perfectly happy working with them when Sony basically dropped all support despite how loyal NIS as a whole were before.

I know they're an entire publisher, but as I always say, Nintendo needs to start opening their war chest and get some more exclusive support.

Is this what Phil meant when he said he wanted to acquire a Japanese studio?

No. Doubt it. You don't want to acquire a studio who's only doing it out of desperation. We make this big deal of financial struggles of some of the studios but those studios bought weren't about to go under tomorrow. They were able to make clear headed, no pressure decisions that they thought it was a good fit.

Microsoft buying a Japanese studio will likely mean buying one that has strong appeal in the West as well.

NISA's doing great, in large part thanks to Switch, but NIS Japan's another story. They've always operated on pretty razor thin margins and the Disgaea RPG mobile game megabombing might have been bad enough to do them in.

If they're going to get bought up I think Gungho or Kadokawa would make more sense. Both already work with NISA and it'd greatly bolster their western presence.

Maybe there's the possibility of a merger too with someone like FuRyu, Falcom, Idea Factory, etc.

I think I own most of their games digitally on psn thanks to sales over the years. Might need to buy those switch ports soon.

As much as I'd hate to see Microsoft purchase them if they will prevent them from releasing games on Steam, isn't this the perfect company for them to purchase?

Shit, that is definitely not the best timing if you aren't about to go bankrupt. Assuming the rumor is correct.

Last time Travis from NISA made a comment on their discord, can anyone ask him about this?

Crazy if NIS finally goes under. Feels like this has been a running joke for years. Don't know who I'd want to buy them right now. It's been nice seeing their output on Steam and Switch for the past few years.

Check out Lapis x Labyrinth while you can, I guess.
