In a Famitsu Interview Senior Vice President, Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino seems to be teasing something (new hardware or addition) for PS5 for 2023

Now, PS5 has entered its third year. The PS4 Pro was released three years after its launch, and I would like to hear about your future outlook.

Nishino : By the end of fiscal 2022, cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units, and we believe that it will be a very important time for the platform as well. I won't be able to talk about specifics at this time, but I hope you will look forward to next year (2023).

This is most likely the detachable drive unit - I can't imagine them releasing a PS5 Pro when we have only a few PS5 exclusives.

Maybe the detachable drive unit isn't just a PS5.
At least it would make sense as to why dev have dev kit off the new platform.

My hope: Digital-only black PS5 Pro + optional external optical drive accessory.

My expectation: new controller and faceplate colors!

I'd like a Pro so we can avoid 4K/40fps or whatever bullshit is gonna be pulled. I'm not going back to 30fps. I'm not.

I'd also like more SSD space out of the box. The 825 thing was bullshit from the start.

Yeah this is likely just going down to one sku—the detachable disc drive optional model—for new production.

I don't see pro consoles this gen. Too slow of a start with Covid delaying hardware production and game development, no easy mass market selling point like 4K for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X etc. They'll just stick with the current models with these type of new SKUs that up profit per unit sold as the generation goes on and component prices drop.

maybe i can snag an older unit on the cheap once there's a new sku!

i've had such bad cash flow meets availability problems this gen

please release a redesigned slim. The PS5 is so, so ugly. I can't believe that that's what they went with.

The detachable drive is so bizarre. Do we expect it's going to come with a drive, or will it be a separate addon?

Unlike last gen… I feel like we haven't had enough games yet that truly utilize the Series X and PS5 hardware enough to warrant pro models in just 3 years… especially considering it's still hard to find the PS5 at retail…

Am I being stupid or why do people keep saying detachable disc drive? Detachable implies that the disc drive is included and you can take it off. Don't you mean attachable?

Can I have a console that isn't ugly as sin and doesn't take up my entire TV stand?

I don't know if it's the pandemic effect or something, but I feel like the PS5 JUST came out and I don't particularly feel like I'm due for an upgrade yet. With inflation running high, I'm not sure I'll be ready for an upgrade for years actually. But hey, if they put it out, I'll be curious to see what the new system performs like.

A PS5 that doesn't look like an air purifier?

Lolol. Just kidding, it looks quite sexy in the vertical position.

I'm all in for that non ugly, non huge, digital slim with drive add on you are all speculating. I'm so sold on that.
Just, please let it be announced asap so I don't commit the potential atrocity of buying one of the current models, and also of course let it not have stock problems and finish once and for all the bundle madness that reigns in some markets because it's ridiculous bullshit that is keeping me from re-entering the platform for so much longer than planned.

There just aren't enough games to justify a spec boost I can see this being an extra long generation.

I know there is way less requirement for a pro model than there was for PS4, but I would murder to be able to play fidelity modes at 60 fps. Been playing Uncharted 4 with the 40 FPS fidelity mode and an unlocked framerate with VRR and it is absolutely insane.

i mean there are strong redesign rumors and it tracks with their history. September 2023 with Spider Man 2, PS5 slim on 5nm. Default no disc drive but a disc drive that can easily slot in. My guess is $399 825GB digital, $499 825GB with disc drive, $129 disc drive on its own. I'd love to see the price go down but I doubt it. MAYBE digital only model goes to $349 but I really doubt either unless SSD gets a lot cheaper.

My hope is the slim is like 30% smaller at least but I'm not sure. That said, I would be fine if they made the PSU external but I know many would hate that.

With the amount of talk there has been of the redesign, a March or April launch wouldn't be a surprise. I don't think a Pro model is worth it for now.

With games like Gotham Knights pushing the console to its limits, naturally the hardware is showing its age and it seem like the time for PS5 Pro.

The detachable disc drive model will probably come with a new form factor, that's about all we should expect.

I doubt they launch PSVR2 and PS5 Pro in the same year.

2024-2025 is fine for PS5 Pro as this will probably be an extended generation based on what's happened in the last few years. Either way PS5 will definitely have the typical ~10 years of support from Sony, and y'all will be complaining about cross-gen PS6 games for a couple years.
