Game Pass for PC is leaving Beta, so its price is increasing from $4.99 to $9.99, which is the normal price for Game Pass for Console.
But the price for the sub overall is not.
They're still trying to entice people into the service in a relatively early state. I don't think they are in a position to increases prices now. But it's inevitable.
Well, I didn't expect the price to increase anytime soon. It's obviously inevitable but they're not going to do it while they're at such a critical point of building the subscriber base.
Of course he wouldn't say that in the future the price will increase and if you don't think it will I have a bridge to sell you.
In the meantime I expect to keep hearing how it's not sustainable on the forums.
When Game Pass for PC was first unveiled and every time I've gone to re-up my sub on the Win10 app, it's shown the $9.99 price crossed out with $4.99 being shown as the beta price. PC players knew this was coming.

They announced well before PC Game Pass launched in beta what the pricing would be once it left beta.

I can't wait until we're discussing the sustainability of Gamepass in 2030 and using bar napkin math to prove why it's not.
PC Gamepass got a price hike because it was leaving the Beta stage and going into full release. When you would sub before it was literally called "Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta)" and they removed the beta once they felt they had developed a big enough library and worked out a lot with the new app, and with it coming to full release, killed the introductory pricing.
If I remember correctly, they even said from the beginning that $5 a month was only beta pricing and that it would go up to $10 when it reached release.
Pretty crazy if they never raise it then. I don't doubt Phil at all but it's definitely a bold statement to make.
I'm not sure what you're getting at. They initially announced that in its "1.0" release that it would be $9.99, and it is currently.....$9.99.
People make threads about every basic Phil statement but then wonder why its being discussed on a message bard xD
Thats not why the price increased. Theyve been transparent since the pc gamepass launch that it launches in beta at half off.

Not technically. Price was $9.99 al the time, just temporarily lowered to $4.99. So it just went back to it's normal price ;)
Increasing price would be making it be 12.99.
Of course it will increase with inflation. His point was that it's not Microsoft's plan to get a load of users by being cheap and then yank the price up crazy high.

I mean, over time they might adjust it to inflation or add new tiers, but they are not going to make it $20 once they get to 20 million users or something like that.
Price is going to stay $9.99 or the equivalent over time.
