This seems.... huge? I cannot believe NK is listening to Trump. What is this... Not that I'm complaining I guess. Happy that people are getting released. Must be surreal for them.
My guess is China didn't want to support NK anymore upon this shitstorm Kim-Jong Un created with threatening the USA. NK lost their biggest advocate in the region and realized that this is a lost cause.
Now Trump appears as the winner. Right place, right time kind of thing.

Yeah. Right you are. It definitely does seem more like a "right place, right time" type of deal. I find it hard to believe that Trump really does just have exemplary intercultural communication skills. No way.

China stopped exporting their stuff to NK and stopped importing coal from NK. Guess it had a big blow on the NK economy.

Kim Jong Un met Xi Jinping at the end of March.

I see some people are still living under the delusion Trump had anything to do with this. He'll claim the w and the people involved will let him so he doesn't throw a huge tantrum(p) and fuck it all up, but let's not propagate the idea that his rhetoric in the whole matter has been anything but caustic and ill-informed. That's the shadow side of this deal: it legitimizes his bullying antics in the eyes of some.

Good news regardless.

You can believe what you want, history books will look at it a different way though. As mind boggling as this all is, the crazy loon did it.

I just hope that being sentenced for whatever arbitrary reason to concentration camps would become a thing of the past for NK citizens soon. Of course formal peace between SK and NK is great, but please don't completely ignore NK regime crimes and at least SK (if not US) should try to persuade Kim become less tyrannical in his domestic rule as well.

Damn, that's great to hear. But I can't help to think this is all just a show man, Un is going to release a video on youtube laughing his ass off " it was just a prank bro, here is our newsest missle test footage! Enjoy!"
Seriously, this 180 turn is just mindboggling.

NK has been hit with hard sanctions. China has cut off a lot of trade with them due to Trump's pressure. I also believe Trump would eventually strike with the military if NK didn't drop their nuclear program. Of course I could be wrong about a military strike, but that just shows how uncertain Trump has made that possibility.

To say Trump had *nothing* to do with this is delusional.

Ill acknowledge that this is a win for Trump

But damn does he still have a mountain to climb

I suppose Im somewhat grateful that the worst of his ideas have mostly been kept in check and that we somehow are able to draw positive consequences from this terrible administration

Quite unexpected but it doesn't exonerate him in my eyes

This is a win for Kim as much as a win for Trump. Kim gets what he wants: recognition as a non-pariah state that has their own business to attend to. Trump gets the clout, of course, but also one problem less, at the expense of influence in the region. Strangely, he's applying non interventionism just fine here.

But China is all too happy to see it happen though. It means USA no longer have business in the region and they're free to take it, as well as most of the Pacific probably.

Oh, I believe pressure from the US has played a role in this. There are probably people in American intelligence and the Trump administration who deserve some credit for this. What I'm talking about is the belief that the way he specifically handled the situation has had a positive effect on the deal.

They accidentally imploded their nuclear testing facilities.
Lol yup. I don't know what's going on with this Trump peace prize meme, but what happened is the equivalent of an armed robber realizing his gun jammed, so he laughs nervously and tries to shake hands hoping you are too shocked and confused to beat the shit out of him.

If you ignore Iran and Syria, sure. The dude's ramped up drone strikes and bombings and is putting into power a cabinet who desperately want to start a war with Iran, not to mention his insistence on war crimes and torture as part of his strategy.

It's less peace through strength and more peace through barbarism.

Wasn't the nuclear incident debunked? I remember some posters saying that in some old thread

I wish people would stop talking about Peace Prizes and whether Trump does or doesn't deserve it. IMO, it's really missing the forest for the trees. Bottom line is this is a great step, and we should just be hoping for continued success of all this.

Whether Trump does or doesn't win a Nobel Peace Prize is relatively non-consequential.

You'd think we'd still be pissed after they killed that one guy recently (Otto, I believe his name was).

Now that this story might be bullshit, how about all the Trumpers in this thread defend their king in the "Paid a Porn Star $130000 in Campaign Funds" thread?

Please stop repeating this as fact. It was debunked in the first thread about it itself.

This thread is full of a bunch of people who instantly believe something Rudy Giuliani said during an unhinged rant.

I think this might be another object lesson that you need to pay attention to what this administration does not what it says.

Is it true that Unification talks are largely a farce to establish a tenuous diplomatic relationship with each other without having to officially recognize the validity and legality of the other's government?

The Right called this 'ransom' when we did it with Iran. Wonder if they'll do the same this time?

8 years of Trump. Wonderful.

Democrats better get their shit together for the midterms, but they wont.
