lara is now starting to rise up to begin the process that will inevitably lead her to reach the path that will eventually end with her beginning to walk the road that will be the genesis of her learning that she will, in time, become The Tomb Raider

I'm on board for Hayley Atwell doing just about anything, but the fact that this appears to flat-out be ripping off the aesthetics and iconography of the reboot games MASSIVELY decreases any interest I have in the show beyond Hayley's presence.

Nailed it in one.

Honestly, groaned at seeing this is still some continuation of TR 2013.

Doing Lara's origin is getting into Batman/Crime alley territory

I don't think it's ripping off. I think it's meant to be a direct sequel to the trilogy's stories.

I suppose at least they're not doing the island thing again and this is a few years later? Right?

They're not doing the island retelling again are they?

Yeah, after three bullshit attempts at an origin story for Lara as if being "the tomb raider" is a superhero identity she needs to earn, I'm just not interested in anything to do with that continuity.

Just let Hayley play confident, self-assured adult Lara. And let her use her guns and sunglasses instead of a boring bow.

In some ways this is like the 5th origin story we have for Lara since the reboot, and the third one that is the same story (assuming this one is an adaptation of TR'13, like the film was).

Does somebody uptop actively dislike Classic TR or something

Like, I know they just announced the remasters but those just feel like a cheap way to acknowledge those games. They look dreadful.

This show will finally explain how the archer who survived torture island to prove her adventurer dad's theories became the adventurer who dedicated her entire life to adventure to find her missing mommy but was actually disowned by her parents because they hated adventure and she does adventure just because she enjoys it.

Never cared about her Rising. To me she is like Bond a fully finished character from the get go. I want the og Lara back. Sassy, confident, witty, a not giving a fuck treasure hunter.

I swear if the Amazon live action show is this same premise again.😭

I just hope Lara laments some random death after murdering a small army of guys.

I always find this type of comments funny. Like, do people even played TR'13? Literally one of the first things she says is how surprisingly easy it was to kill people. She's ok with being a murder machine.

This game was released on a moment where "narrative dissonance" was trending and it seems to have stuck with it.

This is essentially a sequel to Shadow of the Tomb Raider and will bridge the gap to Crystal Dynamics' 'unified' vision of Tomb Raider that will begin with the next game, hence why Lara will be meeting characters like Zip in this series who appeared in Chronicles and was a main character in the Legend trilogy.

Personally I felt the game was a tonal and narrative mess through and through. The off kilter emotional swings were just part of its issues.

Wait, what?

This is a new canon story within the universe of the games?

It's so weird that they're treating the bow and arrow as the 'iconic' Tomb Raider weapon. I get that this is based on nuLara but I wouldn't think the average joe associates the two together.

Like, obviously, the last shot of the season is going to be her opening a box and pulling out a second pistol and holding them both up, but still.

So wait it's a sequel show to the rebooted Tomb Raider games but they didn't bring back the person who did the voices for the 3 games... interesting choice

Well... clearly this takes place after the reboot trilogy, and they said this tv show would bridge the gap between both time lines, so...
