Why do you guys like Shrek so much?

Children who Chase Lost Voices is boring so far.

I'm slowly working on acquiring the entire Criterion collection so my collection is skewed the opposite. But I own probably 30+ anime films.

You're an otaku. You can never leave now. Congratulations.

I also have this problem.

As long as it's Ghibli, Hosoda, Shinkai, Redline, GitS, Akira, In This Corner Of The World, and Satoshi Kon, I don't mind.

Just theatrical fare, or are you including things like television series and straight-to-video/OAV content as well?

It means you got a lot of trash to get rid of.

Anyway, I brought My Name a week ago and man, I miss buying Blu Rays. It felt so good not seeing any compression that streams have.

At least share the films. C'mon, OP. This is threadmaking 101, my dude. Even a pic if you don't want to write it up.

i mean, if you think of the nature of themes and tone of western animation vs japanese animation there just are more movies being released in japan that fit your tastes and demographic. Youre not the target audience for most Western animation, but you are for Japanese stuff.

Speaking of anime movies. Criterion Collection or somebody has to get the rights to Satoshi Kon's movies somehow and release some high quality blu rays with extras.

In contrast with the OP, I have at least 85 western animation blu-rays in my collection, but only 6 anime blu-rays.

People like what they like, OP. Own it!

Pretty much my take.

Modern Western Animated films are much more comedy orientated which for me is not as appealing.

It's definitely what the masses want going by the box office sales, but just not for me.

That's my collection of animated stuff so far. It's missing a few things that I own. Mostly: Belladonna of Sadness, Waltz with Bashir, Paprika, and Tekkonkreet. I also own the second special edition of Cowboy Bebop series (which is in an album like cover).

It's not even a tenth of what I want my full collection to be one day (I have a damn large list), but I only started collecting 3 years ago and I'm a broke AF college student who can only afford like 4 movies a year, soooo...

So, if you count the Japanese animated movies I own, it totals to 13 (I think), not counting the Cowboy Bebop series twice, but including the movie.

If you count the "western" animated movies I own (not including the duplicate of the Yuri Norstein collection I own) it totals to... 13. Pretty cool, I have an even split!

Yeah, this was also just an excuse to show off my animated movie collection. I know it's pretty lame and small, but again, I only really got into animation 3 years ago and I ain't got no money.

Well, of course. There's maybe 1.5 good western shows and none of them have kawaii waifus.
