Vulture - Muppet Babies' Gonzo-rella Is the Cutest Disney Princess

We're not crying at this very gentle episode of a show aimed at children ages 3 to 8, you are. Or you will be, after watching these clips. On Friday, Disney Junior aired an episode of its CGI animated Muppet Babies reboot called "Gonzo-rella," in which li'l blue alien Gonzo wants to dress up like a princess because the gang is playing "royal ball," but Piggy tells him that boys have to play knights. So the "Fairy RatFather" (Rizzo, a true ally) grants his wish, turning him into a princess with a secret identity.

"Very early on, we wanted to do an episode where Gonzo just showed up to the Playroom wearing a skirt. And it was no big deal. No one cared or questioned it because Gonzo is always 200 percent Gonzo 347 percent of the time." But Warburton says that story editor and co-producer Robyn Brown and the story team added the Cinderella conceit, and "it was just SO wonderfully Gonzo. We hope he inspires kids watching to be 347 percent of themselves in their own way, too."

Gonzo is already embraced by many queer fans as a non-binary icon, so this just feels plain right. You go to that ball, Gonzo-rella.

Here's the happy ending we deserve.

I had no idea that the Muppet Babies was still on TV.

And awww! That so sad and touching when Gonzo explained how they wanted him to look a certain way and how he didn't want to upset them, and that he just wanted to be himself.

How long until the usual suspects find out about this and make it a huge deal?

New Muppet Babies is generally pretty rough, it ranks pretty high on my "please don't say muppets... please don't say muppets..." when my 3 year old asks to watch something, but this is great and their responsible use of pronouns didn't go unnoticed.

Great message. Well done to them for going with it in such a way. It's so important future generations understand these things early on so they can better understand, accept and be themselves.

This morning when my 13 year old was riding with me, she asked if she can get a Pink/Yellow/Blue flag tattoo.

She's never openly stated anything to me before, so I'm guessing this was a hint. I looked it up and of course I'm fine with her wanting it and I find her way of hinting something to me neat...as she can be shy with certain things.

She's not getting a tattoo at 13 though, lol. Outside of that she's free to find herself (or any other pronoun that comes).

Edit** I may make a post about this, as I'd love input on the community on helping guide her / and of course standing back as needed.

My daughter kind of watches it, but mostly in short bursts, she loves Gonzo though. The show has a really catchy theme song too.

Muppets Babies is like upper tier compared to some of the shit that is on my TV these days lol.

This is great. My kids love the new muppet babies. TBH the life-lesson adventures they go on very much reflects the original.

I think they still have massive massive issues with the original licencing because of the number of clips they used, don't they?
