At least this confirms that something is coming, and the timing would line up with NRS' usual cycle of doing a re-release and a major update one year after the game's release. In terms of what we know/suspect is coming:
- Sheeva, Fujin and Ash Williams from Evil Dead had dialogue datamined from release so we can say safely that they're coming. Mentions of them in the code/files were removed from the game but were re-added in an update later on.
- Based on the other thread regarding the mention of Ash Williams' copyright in a Newsletter email sent to everyone, you can't get a better confirmation than that.
- There was also mention found of a character with the initials ROB. The popular theory seems to be that this is Robocop however there is no way of knowing this for sure. It could potentially be ROBots AKA Cyrax and Sektor in a fashion similar to Triborg from MKX but again, this is all conjecture.
- Recent datamining found that there are a total of 42 character slots in the game and that in MKX, those slots were also there originally and eventually filled up over time.
- There's also other things datamined which are not characters. Including mentions of two stages (Deadpool and Soul Chamber) found via announcer lines present in the game. There is also mention of a potential report function that lines up with them improving on their online infrastructure. Krossplay between PS4 and X1 is also currently in Beta and will hopefully launch in full for all platforms by the time this release occurs (please Boon).
