uh... the tigers haven't been in the playoff picture for a long time. (any tiny bit of playoff chance they had died on june 12th)

you have a funny definition of a bit, as 12.5 games back at the all star break is anything but a bit.

I mean... they only have 62 games left.

to even get back to 500 they would need to go 39-23

if the indians went 1 game over .500 from here on out (aka 33-32) it would require the tigers to go 44-18 to catch them lol.
Well maybe I should be thinking about the offseason like you were explaining last post instead LOL.

join me in rooting for your team to lose. it makes you win all the time. as if they lose you are happy, if they are win then ok they won lol.

to be fair I wouldn't be surprised if the white sox ended up higher in the standings than the tigers by the end of the season. I imagine jimenez and kopech come up sometime and the team goes on a decent run with them around.

it's possible jimenez might be up tomorrow since they already removed an outfielder from the roster and haven't announced a new one yet.

No matter what happens the Tigers will do better than that awful season last year. Aren't the White Sox supposed to be tanking right now?

i mean the tigers are also supposed to be tanking.

but uh... the white were supposed to be tanking last year and had a .500+ sept lol.

I don't think that is going to change much this year. They are going to call up some of the young kids and are going to end up winning to many games to be a true tank.

they're a tank in every sense. no need to be ashamed, it's a good strategy.

Willie Calhoun tweeted out that he was heading to Dallas, then deleted the tweet minutes later. Tells me that the corresponding roster move hasn't been informed yet.

please let it be Gallo being sent down

Matt Carpenter went off today. 3 homers and 2 doubles. He's becoming a legitimate MVP candidate. Hope he and the Cardinals saved something for the two games tomorrow.

wonder what it would take from the Braves side to get DeGrom. Like a package of 2 top 5 prospects like Ian Anderson/Kyle Wright plus another good prospect would be enough to get it done

I imagine Chris Sale would be a good comparison to look at for the price.
he had a similar amount of time left on the contract, though was younger and had set values well below market.

while Degrom has a stupid good season going right now at a trade deadline weak of pitchers.

Sale commanded
Luis Alexander Basabe (minors), Victor Diaz (minors), Michael Kopech (minors) and Yoan Moncada.
at the time Moncada was an overall number 3
Kopech was an overall top 90
and while Basabe wasn't a top 100 he had a decent amount of hype around him.

anderson is a top 40
Kyle Wright is a top 30

so you would likely need to include Luiz Gohara, Kolby Allard, Austin Riley or Cristian Pache as well
and likely someone else from the top 30 perhaps Brett Cumberland as everyone could always use more catching depth.

the package here obviously would be a bit more than Sale commanded, but at the same time Sale wasn't traded when he was pitching at a 1.68 ERA through 19 games (worth 6 WAR by BF) in a market desperate for a good pitcher.

Moncada was the No. 1 prospect and Kopech was the No. 30 prospect according to MLB's 2016 top 100 list FYI
I was just pulling quickly from the ratings listed on the baseball reference site. I didn't pull up the mid season rankings for the players listed either >.>

doesn't change anything for what I said though. I think you need at least a 3rd top 100 prospect added to the two listed and another org top 30 at the min.
and that Sale would be a good basis for what to expect to have to give up.

sale was/is better than degrom and didn't have the injury history that degrom has. I think the Mets will be disappointed of they think they're getting a comparable return

After tonight the Yankees will be at .500 over the last full month. You can't continue to punt 2 out of every 5 starts and realistically hope to be much better than that.

At this point I don't know what they're going to do. They have no pitchers in the minors that's major league ready. Sheffield is getting close but I rather them not rush him up. Maybe they should consider doing what the Rays do and have a bullpen day every 5 days. German clearly needs more seasoning in the minors. Gray I think you kinda just have to let him try to work things out.

At this Nats Braves game. Fuckin' a. I knew Stras was gonna be rusty but that was not a good performance. Just high fastballs every fucking pitch despite them hitting it over and over. Eurgh.

That inning is a clear example of why the Yankees have started to sputter. They can't play any small ball whatsoever.
