What were you trying to say here in response to someone's grandpa having been to WWII to fight Nazis, MrHeisenbird? Cause there is a lot to learn from history to what's going on right now, in order to prevent the mistakes of before.
The reason WW2 and Hitler's rise to power happened was because he and his fellow Nazis were given a platform and tolerated by conservatives to use demagoguery to capture the public in order for bigotry to spread. All the rabble rousing between 1920 and 1933 was able to get Hitler and his National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) from an obscure political party to the leading party. They were able to use Germans' humiliation at the Treaty of Versailles to go against immigrants, communists, Jews through conspiracy theories that Jews were behind the communist party and controlled everything ("Jewish Bolshevism"), and to establish a German identity/blood as the only right one with the use of race science. Wealthy industrialists were not fans of the plans of communists on how to fix the German economic crisis. Hitler tried a violent coup called the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich to overthrow the government of the German state of Bavaria. That didn't work out, lots of deaths, and he ended up in prison which is when he wrote Mein Kampf ("My Struggle") where he went about racial science ("race realism" as it'd be called today) and Aryan blood. A judge was a fan of the Nazi white nationalist message so he let Hitler and his followers show open contempt for the Weimar Republic at the trial and was able to avoid them to be deported (cause they were Austrians) and give him the minimum 5 years. He only served 9 months and then the rest of the term was suspended. So he changed tactics away from armed uprising. He used freedom of the press, the right to assemble, and freedom of speech to win control of Germany. The stock market crash of 1929 which led to the Great Depression made way for Nazis to use communists, Jews, liberals, and pacifists as the scapegoat for the German economic crisis.
The Nazis were second in the 1930 elections but were more popular so as popular support dropped for Hindenburg, they formed a coalition deal in 1933 so that Nazis could get more power and Hindenburg could become more popular. Kind of like what the Republicans thought of the Tea Party populism growing after the Great Recession and decided to take in the far right elements. Hindenburg thought having Hitler in power would make him moderate his views. He was dead wrong. Just like how the Republicans thought having Tea Party/Trump in power would moderate his views. This is how a democracy (Weimar Republic) turned into a dictatorship (Deutsches Reich). If USA wants to avoid a potential dictatorship, you have to learn from WW2.
