"With Sony, we have an agreement called" second party ", details Céline Tellier co-founder and director of Wild Sheep Studio. (Sony) has no share in the company but bears the costs of development of the game through contracts renewed regularly, related to the stages of progress of the project. You have to make the difference with a "first party" agreement, which is a total buyout of the independent company or a "third party" agreement, which grants a limited time exclusivity to the parent company. "

The game Wild will be exclusive to Sony consoles and promises creative and artistic innovations. It is this originality that supposedly seduced the Japanese company.

"Betting on more creative projects is part of a publisher's strategy," continues Céline Tellier. It is a risk taking, especially as the level of profitability of a game can vary greatly, with marketing costs sometimes equal to development costs. "

These costs are estimated at €300,000 per month to operate the Wild Sheep Studio factory. And if the release date of Wild is not defined, the growth of the small company continues with the relocation to the new premises, which can accommodate different teams (sound design, graphic designers, programmers, special effects specialists) or still production.

Wild Sheep Studio is expected to quickly reach 50 employees and are now looking to attract talent from the industry. These senior profiles with more than five years of experience or with a game already released to their credit, are rare and in demand. But Wild Sheep Studio hopes to attract them to Montpellier thanks to the effervescence surrounding the creation of Wild.

The company will recruit on four important technical positions: programming/coding, gameplay, tools and graphics. To anticipate the tasks inherent to this recruitment campaign and to support its growth, Wild Sheep Studio is also looking for an HR employee.

The way some of this is worded sounds like the game has been rebooted and has just now entered full production.... maybe moved over to Decima?

Edit: Seems not. This job listing posted this month mentions "studio's existing technology".

They were around 30-40 last year already, so they've been staffing up for awhile (originally they were twelve I think?)

Not sure If its still the case, but apparently the project was taking a long time because they were also building an internal engine alongside it

Not sure why anyone thinks it's cancelled. Sony would tell us if that was the case.

Good god, this is gonna take a while if they're making an internal engine alongside it. But I'll wait because I dig the concept and what they showed so far.

Things sometimes get dropped quietly, without any fanfare. Sony dropped Wattam, for example, but it was picked up by Annapurna. Although maybe in a case where a game was cancelled, rather than just 'transferred' to another publisher, there might be more noise about it.

That's the largest piece of information we've had in years. It's only natural they've been working on the project for so long: very ambitious concept and not even 50 employees. Hopefully the execution doesn't suffer due to the size.

I like to watch this everytime I'm reminded of WiLD. Really hope it ends up coming out, good to hear it's still being worked on.

So happy this is still going. I hope if anything changes, Sony will just come out and say it's cancelled or dropped or whatever.

Nice to see 'second party' used officially. Would Spider-Man or Detroit be considered second party by this definition?

She is trying to describe the the studio's relationship to Sony, not how the game is defined. SIE still published those games and it is properly listed as a first-party game.
