The only reason the MGS3 remake is "long-awaited" is because Konami has dragged their feet for like two years in revealing something everyone and their dad who doesn't play video games already knows is being made.

What are MGS fans anticipating? A remake. I think with Kojima gone it's probably a good time to retire the IP. Nothing lasts forever, gamers.
Everything has an ending and there is nothing wrong with that.
Without Hideo Kojima, all I want from this IP are ports to current platforms. It's just sad that we don't have those games playable on current hardware.

On a positive note this means we'll get it quite soon as opposed to getting a "Please be excited" announcement and have to wait 2/3 years.

And if they had announced it when it leaked (when the project first started, most likely) then two years later people would be complaining that they announced it too early because it isn't almost done.
