"THE PURE HORROR EXPERIENCE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. IT'S EASILY THE SCARIEST FILM OF THE DECADE."
– EJ MORENO, FLICKERING MYTH

"LONGLEGS IS PERKINS' TRADEMARK AESTHETIC AT MAX VOLUME, LINGERING IN YOUR THOUGHTS, UNDER YOUR SKIN, AND IN THE PIT OF YOUR STOMACH WELL AFTER IT'S OVER"
– MATT DONATO, INVERSE

"LONGLEGS GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN AND STAYS THERE, IMMERSING YOU SO THOROUGHLY IN THE REPULSIVE, DISCOMFORTING NATURE OF EVIL THROUGH TERRIFYING IMAGERY AND A TACTILE ATMOSPHERE THAT IT'S UNSHAKABLE"
– MEAGAN NAVARRO, BLOODY DISGUSTING

"THE MOVIE SLOWLY BUILDS A SENSE OF DREAD, WHICH BECOMES INCREDIBLY POTENT AS IT COMES TO ITS HORRIFYING CONCLUSION. ONCE THE CREDITS ROLLED, I FOUND MYSELF SURPRISINGLY SHAKEN UP BY WHAT I'D JUST SEEN, AND IT'S A FILM I'LL NEED TO CHEW ON IN THE COMING WEEKS"
– CHRIS BUMBRAY, JOBLO

i just searched for longlegs here after reading this great interview, v lucky that this (absolutely goated) OT was made a few minutes ago!

Osgood Perkins Explains How ‘Longlegs’ Is an Ode to His Celebrity Parents’ Dark Backstory: ‘A Mother Can Lie Out of Love’

IndieWire talks to 'Longlegs' director Osgood Perkins about how his dark family backstory influenced the horror movie starring Nicolas Cage.

i had no clue that Osgood Perkins was the son of THE Norman Bates of Psycho - Anthony Perkins.

Can't wait for this weekend. Nic Cage as a serial killer is enough to get my ass in the seat. But Maika Monroe and rave reviews? This shot up to most anticipated films of the year lol.

Gonna go watch this by myself

Haven't been to the theaters alone in a while and I've never done it with a horror film

Best marketing for a horror film in recent memory. Everything official I've ever seen for this movie from teasers to trailers to official stills builds a picture of pure dread.

Check out the website above too! It reminded me of the website based around the Keddie murders as well as an older site around the original nightstalker.

I read someone (not Ehrlich) describe this as more vibes based than "actually terrifying" based so I'm setting my expectations for that (I prefer vibes based anyway so this is a strong point for me)

Reading the victims page now and I'm getting some inklings on the plot:

There is a supernatural element afoot, with Longlegs trying to conjure spirits or even Satan through vulnerable family's daughters. Trailers include scenes of folks practicing conjuring on female-coded dolls. There's also a shot of a little girl with the shadow of Satan behind her. Every single family killed has been a typical nuclear family with at least one daughter. We get the 911 phone call from the Pendergrast patriarch that "it's not his daughter." Longlegs himself in the trailer speaks to presumably the protagonist and says she is "the dark." I dunno, but this guy really seems to think girls and women are the perfect vessels for Satan and darkness.

Lol every year critics like up to crown one movie as the scariest, most nasty etc

I always go into these things with tempered expectations.

From the one review I read this sounds like a slow burn.

The type of movie that lingers when you find yourself trying to sleep at night.

I tend to like those movies. My fear is people going to see this and expecting jump scares galore. Then getting mad when it doesn't deliver that.

finally a little sanity in the reviews for this movie. ehrlich is usually pretty spot on so my expectations are thankfully tempered and I know now I wont turn into a feral beast just shitting and puking in the theater the way the rest of the earlier reviews made it seem like it was going to happen.

I mean, sure.

Identify some outlets and reviewers you trust and go from there.

As a fan of horror, I'd say never trust the consensus for a movie upon release. The consensus is so often so very wrong. For example, so many horror movies that were HATED upon release are now beloved classics.

As for myself personally, a lot of the people I trust about horror were ecstatic about Longlegs. So I'm very excited about it myself. Let's see how it goes.

Down for more vibes based too. Gretel & Hansel was extremely strong with it's vibes, so I am excited for this.

from the trailers, I got Silence of the Lambs vibes anyway, not actual horror. Well, let me rephrase that as I do consider Lambs to be horror, but not... err... "BOO horror"? I dunno I can't explain it, but Lambs wasn't exactly "scary" even if it's one of the GOATs.

Yeah it leans more thriller.

Simultaneous with... what? Because in my country it's not out until 2 weeks later, which SUCKS for movies like this where spoilers actually matter.

I've got tickets for this Thursday evening. Hopefully this will be a better experience than Maxxxine was for me.

But either way, my fellow horror fans are eating good this summer.

Not showing in Australian cinemas until July 18th. Though there are advanced screenings for the night before. I guess they pushed it back a week? :/
